Hail, fellow travellers, and well met. My Dreamwidth is mostly for fic, recs, icons, vids and fannish nonsense & fic/vids/icons etc. generally remain open. I'm terribly obscure and multi-fannish, but generally happy to make new friends with shared fandom interests.

Please don't repost/c+p/scrape any content here to anywhere else. If you want to link to any public posts for any reason, please just do so.
Dear Author tag, for exchange letters.
Friending/subscribing: Please drop a comment here (or any other public post) to say hi first and let me know how we know each other, or which fandom(s) we share. I'll usually friend you back if I recognise your name.

Date: 16 Feb 2018 06:20 pm (UTC)I loved Tenko (especially Bea & Sister Ulrica, but all of them) and did enjoy Secret Army, although I grew up watching Allo Allo so it took a while to get past that! But I did.
And since you do like that kind of thing, then I do recommend the show the fic was for - it's Enemy at the Door, which was made around the same time as Secret Army by the other side and was about the Occupation of the Channel Islands. The producer/script writer once described it as being a show about ordinary people on both sides in extraordinary situations, which is not far from the comment you made, so perhaps it might appeal. (It's very character-driven and not very action-orientated, so it has often been overlooked since, though it was popular enough when it came out and it actually has a R1 release, unlike a lot of its contemporaries. Also bonus bb!Anthony Head, which is nice.)
I would say don't run away, I don't always go on about cardboard telly, but actually I do a lot, so feel free if you need to! (I hope not, though.)

Date: 16 Feb 2018 10:04 pm (UTC)And Enemy at the Door sounds just up my street, and it's not one I'd come across, so thank you, that's going on my list. In return I might mention We'll Meet Again, an 80s tv show about a US air force base somewhere on the east coast and the interactions between the Americans and the English villagers, again pretty character-driven.

Date: 17 Feb 2018 09:08 am (UTC)*nods* I liked them all, though, really. And Dorothy! I watched it off the (Freeview) Drama channel last year, and I loved it so much I think I need my own copy. The Drama channel has taken to rerunning 70s & 80s TV on Saturday mornings, which is very helpful for my current ancient telly addiction. (Or bad and enabling, whichever.)
Someone else recommended me We'll Meet Again! I'll have to look into it. I've generally watched less 80s stuff but clearly I should check that out. (I was going to say I've watched that, but, lol, what I've watched is the 80s/90s Wish Me Luck, which was by the Tenko team and about female British Resistance agents in France. (They're both 40s songs).
I didn't mean to watch so much WWII stuff, but I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and for a long while it was really hard to even watch TV or read, and then I found that 70s TV was much easier to cope with because of the slower pace and lack of incidental music - and then I just kept following actors and writers about and wound up hooked on things nobody has ever heard of!
Enemy at the Door is a favourite, though. It should be find-able on the other side of the pond (if that's where you are) as well, but if not, I know where it's up unlisted on YT! (The same uploader has a massive lot of old Brit telly.)I made a trailer for it once. (The Acorn 'trailer' for it is so rubbish I was incensed. But it was also made to test out my sound problem and my end conclusion was that, yes, I have an unfixable sound problem on my software, so the music/dialogue levels are not ideal.)
