Ah, so that's who 14 were, and why they couldn't polish the brass.
(I was wondering if they were Elements, for whom 'polishing the Brass' would be something completely different and probably best not gone into...)
The Polly/Ben one was brilliant, too. I can see why Polly would have a downer on Algernon, but what did Euphemia ever do to her? :-)
