In which I feel the need to gratuitously quote the Radio Times again...
Okay, snippet from the latest Spooks write-up from Alison Graham. (I cut only for any sensitive flowers who can't even bear to read the 'blurb' about the next episode 9.04, as I am related to one or two.)
"The splendid, wholesome Ruth Evershed emerges from the Grid to be quietly heroic... In her plucky Chalet School way she risks her life to jolly well save us all from certain annihilation."
Ruth At the Chalet School, anyone? Oh, my. My head goes to crossover-land very easily, as everyone will know by now, but even so... She'd like it there. Except when she felt the need to be evil, as she does occasionally. (Probably the only other person on my flist who will get the wonder will be
paranoidangel42, but I couldn't keep it to myself.)
And
persiflage_1 will no doubt approve of her proper verdict of Mary from Downton Abbey as "the toxic Lady Mary..." Heh, again.

And yes, that IS an apt description of Lady Mary!

And obviously, there should be Ruth Evershed, scholarship genius new girl, plus other new girl who is the daughter of a diplomat/politician, and snow fights and skiing and stuff.
In the meantime, random hastily written drivel with two teachers discussing Ruth:
***
"You're looking flustered, Kathy," said Nancy Wilmot to her long-time friend and colleague. "What hair-raising antics are your little darlings treating you to?"
Kathy Ferrars laughed, and looked across at her friend. "It's not that. It's the new girl."
"Ruth something-or-other, wasn't it? What's the story?"
Kathy flung up her hands. "Oh, my dear, where to begin?"
"At the beginning," advised Nancy comfortably. "I've a free half-hour. Pour out your heart, tear out your hair, and I shall lend a sympathetic ear, and finish by offering you my sage advice."
Kathy smiled again. "Thank you, Nancy. You're a poppet. She's simply so far ahead of the rest of Inter V, I don't know what to do with her. I know that's what the class is for, but I feel as if I'm holding her back."
"Oh, no, not another genius,” said Nancy, with a sigh.
"She's extremely good at English and the humanities, and her science isn't quite as dazzlingly awful as some of them, but her maths is a bit of a state. She can't possibly go into Upper V, and not at her age, anyway, but what to do in the meantime, I don't know. If you have any sensible suggestions, I shall be forever grateful."
Nancy considered. "Perhaps some private tutoring? Extra lessons sound just the thing."
"I'm already guarding my free time jealously," sighed Kathy, "but you may be right. Otherwise she's going to turn her mind to evil, if she hasn't already."
"At that age," agreed Nancy, "she would, if I know your little monkeys. It sounds as though you're in for it this term, Kathy, and I have only one thing to offer you as yet, although I will turn my mighty brain to the matter."
"Oh? And what’s that?"
Nancy laughed. "Here, I was sent these rather gorgeous confections from home. Help yourself."
Kathy took the proffered chocolate with a smile. "She seems bright, and she's not malicious, at least. No feuds as yet. It could be worse."
"And will be, before the term's out," said Nancy. "When did we ever make it through a term without incident? As long as no one throws herself off a precipice this time, I shall be thoroughly thankful."
Kathy raised her eyebrows. "So would Hilda, I should think. You make us sound like something out of a tupenny dreadful. I'll certainly try and restrain myself, I promise."
“But can we restrain them?” returned Nancy, with a wiggle of her eyebrows. “Such is the lot of the unfortunate teacher of Middles, my dear.”
"It's always the Middles, isn't it?"

Heh, yes,
Ruth would love the Chalet School. Oh, dear, I can't promise anything right now - my writing is erratic and doesn't go anywhere, except if it involves UNIT OCs. But it's tempting!
:-D

Heh, well if you get the urge and actually start writing, feel free to blame me!

(I'm not sure how long it'll be when I'm done, but it is currently 26 pages, and might have as many to go yet, so don't worry if it's a bit much. It isn't anything very exciting either, or at least, not for anyone who's not me, but it is a little complicated, so I'd be grateful for a second opinion.)

No, I'm kind of ashamed of myself and trying not to say what it is, because it's actually a sort of prequel and sequel to the UNIT fics, (I said it was complicated) - a What Happened to Nat's Dad, with Torchwood and Silurians, and it's technically set in three time periods (1955, 1968, and 1988). So, when it's ready to see the light of day, aside from the usual beta-ing, someone to check that it isn't too confusing and none of the sections are horribly anachronistic somewhere would be very much appreciated. :-D
