Oh, but I see from Wikipedia that Sheriff Hutton is the name of the castle as well as the village, so perhaps that explains it. It's a listed ruin these days, though, so apparently this is a historical vampire tale.
(That would explain the old-fashioned tone of the narrative voice, come to think. I had been wondering if it was a sequel to that story wherein Miss Marple outsmarted Dracula.)
