Your gifs are utterly lovely (and the moustache is wonderful - clearly it was the same slug used by the BBC for the Brigadier, and still enjoyed the hospitality room rather too much). Shame about the Holmes, but they're tricky things to adapt. For me, so much of the appeal is in Conan Doyle's prose, as the stories themselves are pretty uneventful. An adaptation needs a strong hand, which it sounds like that version didn't have.
Argh, George Formby! I have such a powerful Formby allergy, but I keep being reminded by various reading materials about just what a great person he actually was (and his wife too). Their tour of South Africa, and utter contempt for apartheid, was glorious. So I keep trying to like him, but then he plays the banjo at me, and does rubbish films. :/
