Fic: When the Bartender Gives You Lemons (Doctor Who/The Librarians)

I managed to finish my [community profile] intoabar fic on time! I nearly had it done before my family came up, but not quite and it took a bit of recovering for me to fix it. (I was so ill that one of the times I looked at it I accidentally POSTED it and woke up to weird dream unreality of comments on unwritten fic, both of which were evidently too polite to point out that the last bit was largely unedited and the ending was absent. I hastily deleted it, thank goodness it wasn't a Top Sekrit Exchange fic! Apologies to anyone who saw it. This is the real version, even if I still didn't manage to come up with a better title. /o\)

When the Bartender Gives You Lemons (2795 words) by thisbluespirit
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Doctor Who (2005), The Librarians (TV 2014)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Thirteenth Doctor, Ezekiel Jones
Additional Tags: Community: intoabar, Crossover, Humor, Alien Technology, (which the Doctor says is definitely not), Magic, Thieves together
Summary: All the Doctor wants is a nice glass of tap water with one of those little umbrellas and a slice of orange – and to find a malfunctioning Zygon device before it hurts anyone. Unfortunately, it's never that simple...

(I don't think it's spoilery, other than for general concept of both shows and characters. There was a potential really interesting Ezekiel-Thirteen connection, but I came up with this first, and never did think of anywhere to go with the more serious one.)

Oh, noooooooo! And here I was all upset because mine had a couple of dumb mistakes I didn't catch until the day after I posted it. Like, at one point I initially described a character as being six feet tall, but then realized that my POV character ought to be using the metric system, so I went to change it to two meters in an editing pass, but somehow muddled up the change and ended up describing him as six meters tall, which would have made it hard to fit him in the bar. I am now going to count my blessings that that's all I did. :)

Anyway, I'm glad yours made it to us in proper complete form, in the end. As I said over on AO3, it was fun even not knowing the crossover character. (And one day I will watch The Librarians and make his acquaintance.)

Also, I kind of like the title!

Honestly, that might make me feel slightly less worried about how satisfying people might think some of the endings to my fic are! :)

And, boy, am I all too familiar with that "really obvious great other title eluding me the whole time" feeling. Some part of me is utterly convinced there is one of those for every single story, constantly lurking somewhere just out of reach.

Mind you, I've definitely read fic that only did the bit where the heroes identified the problem, and left the "and then they saved the day" to be taken as read. And that can be enough, if it's written entertainingly and the build-up to the epiphany about the problem is done right. So I did notice that the story could have gone on, but it wasn't obviously unfinished.
