Intoabar + insta-rec
1.
intoabar will be running again soon! Sign-ups open next weekend. It's a very laid back and fun fest - you choose a character to walk into the bar and 1-4 other fandoms, and the mods assign you a random person from those other fandoms for them to meet (in a bar or similar location). And that's it! The results are often very entertaining.
2. It took me a little while to be well enough to read this after heimeldat pointed me in its direction on tumblr, but I finally did, and their S&S fic is as great as their awesome DW fic, so have a wonderful post-Assignment 6 fic:
Escape from Nowhere (5098 words) by Heimeldat
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Sapphire and Steel, Doctor Who (2005)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Silver (S&S), Sapphire (S&S), Steel (S&S), The Doctor | Ruth Clayton
Additional Tags: Serial: s06 Assignment Six, Fix-It, Time Travel, Alien Technology, POV Silver, Post-Canon, Escape, Telepathy
Summary: When the trap closes on Sapphire and Steel, Silver is set free with no idea what happened or how to fix it - until a strange woman arrives and offers to help Silver break the trap and free his colleagues.

They should definitely let you do two if you want! XD

Oh, well, I don't think he'll hold it against me, although he might have found it interesting to meet new people from other universes. :)

Or three! Because there's also the canon I'm almost done with that I'm loving but probably won't write for, except that it might be fun to have one excuse to write one character in one odd crossover, once.
Then again, it might be just as well they don't let you do that, because that really would be entirely too much to take on. :)

Ha, possibilities! Which canon is that?
And I suppose, whichever you don't choose, you can still throw the fandoms into the ring and see what happens.

Adventure Time, which I have nearly finished binge-watching and have developed great affection for, even though it probably really isn't something I'd be likely to write fic for outside of an odd little exercise like Into a Bar.

Yes, although there are fandoms where I feel reasonably comfortable writing any character who might come up, fandoms where I know I'd really only be able/willing to write certain very specific characters, and, of course, fandoms in the (for IaB purposes) thrilling and dangerous gray area in between. :)

How to judge which is which is such a thing! XD
Adventure Time, which I have nearly finished binge-watching and have developed great affection for,
Aw, cool. I've heard of that, although I'd vaguely just assumed it was some sort of children's cartoon? But maybe not, then!

It is, but it's a children's cartoon in more or less the same way that Avatar: The Last Airbender is. Which is to say: highly entertaining even if you have an adult's sense of humor, surprisingly complex when it comes to characters and worldbuilding, and generally way too good to let the kids keep all to themselves. :)

Aw, ncie. I haven't seen much animated stuff lately (I'm not on board wth the video game style cgi stuff for a start), but I did manage it for some of Clone Wars & Rebels when I was having that intense SW phase during the whole Lockdown/Timeless Child meltdown period, despite that, and Rebels was so good!
For some reason the name AT made me vaguely assume it was a younger age range than that (I suppose it sounds like "Story Time"); but by and large children's cartoon fandom on tumblr is very annoying, so I just tend to block all of them or scroll by hastily! (idk why children's cartoon fandom is just Like That, but it always seems to be! I don't think the cartoons themselves deserve it in any of the cases, either from what I vaguely osmose from beyond that.)

I'd be extremely leery of Tumblr cartoon fandom myself, though. In my experience, the more pleasant and positive and G-rated the source material, the more toxic and unhinged the fandom often seems to be. But I will probably never understand it.

It does seem to be a fandom rule! I think the absolute worst one I ever saw even vaguely go by was The Moomins, which is just ridiculous. It really is the weirdest thing - I suppose it's a mix of fans shipping and doing fandom things and others who are "this cartoon so wholesome, also these are all children/animals/cute so no one could ever ship them... wait WHAt" and having meltdowns at the rest who are writing Moomin pr0n or whatever.
Well, it's weird and surprising and complicated and sometimes a bit dark, and better on multiple levels than a lot of things I've seen that are supposedly aimed at adults. :)
Aw, cool.

Oh, god, yes, that seems just so wrong.
and having meltdowns at the rest who are writing Moomin pr0n or whatever.
All I can think is, some people are just way too immature to be fans of kids' stuff. :)
Patricia Tallman just posted this and I thought you might have an answer...
