I haven't read more than halfway through the collection on mere first pickings, though, because while I have two things in the collection, I very nearly made it to three but failed on Christmas Eve, and spent the little energy of that kind I had trying to fix the third all week. It was at that sort of stage to drive me wild not to be able to do so. Anyway, for better or for worse, it is posted now, and I'll link to it here separately later, but it was for The Winslow Boy, for

I was assigned The Shadow of the Tower (!!) for misura, who had once written me a Madness treat for this canon and the same characters (Henry VII & John de la Pole Earl of Lincoln) which I have treasured ever since, so I was pretty delighted to be able to return the favour. I had this idea pretty much straight away, although it took a while to work out and be well enough to type up. I worried a bit over the ending (involving a slightly different take on a canonical death) and kept checking their DNWs (and each time, no, they still had not DNWed death, heh) and am so relieved that not only did they leave me a lovely comment before I even got to the collection on the 25th, but they absolutely got what I was going for in that section.

I also wanted to write some treats if I had time, maybe some ficlets for Madness, as there were a few requests I eyed up, especially The Winslow Boy (which along with the SotT request, was the other thing I'd have been most happy to get assigned to), and The Time Master trilogy maybe, or The Net (1995).

I did write TWB, but typed it up second - I knew if I didn't attempt The Net treat now I never would, while I was clearly going to write something for TWB sooner or later now. Anyway, so even though the very morning I typed it up I had decided that I simply couldn't do it, somehow nevertheless I wrote the first Jack/Angela fic for

unhindered_dreams because the foe!yay needed to exist, and apparently I had to write it myself, dammit. ;-p

(Some of their other prompts were so funny, too, though. I think "Canon, but soulmates" made me laugh the hardest, because I'm not into soulmates as a rule, but "worst possible soulmate except yes actually in some ways they genuinely are" is amazing. As was "following your boyfriend's trail of dead bodies" even if canon is more "you can tell your boyfriend is following you because there's a trail of dead bodies behind you.")

(The irony of me and Zombie Apocalypse fic is that I don't like really like zombie things, but somehow I like writing Zombie Apocalypse AUs a lot anyway, even if they usually feature more biscuits and team bonding than zombies, so this was comparatively zombie-heavy for me, but that's not saying much, lol.)

The one downside of my plans, other than not quite making it and exhausting myself at the same time (but what else is new) was that, due to foolishly writing treats that involved two different fictional Jeremy Northams, while waiting for Treat #1, I was, oh, maybe I could start on Treat #2 and then my brain for one moment tried to put Jack Devlin and Sir Robert Morton in the same place and broke into distressed pieces, so I took the wiser course of having a rest instead.

Oh no, a rest definitely seems like the wisest course of action to that problem! Characters attempting to mingle across very different canons is never fun.

One is way more murderous than the other, but they were both still 1990s Jeremy Northams and I wasn't prepared to answer for the state of my mind or either treat if I let contamination occur. XD

In the normal way, I love a crossover; I'm a Doctor Who fan, it's like the normal state of being - but not the Same Actor ones, though.

When, why and how things show up in the tumblr tags is one of the great mysteries of life. You just hope for the best and see what happens! I haven't been doing much more on tumblr the last week than idly scrolling through my dash, so I hadn't even looked in any tags! I've nearly let my queue run out again even, but I'll have a giant catch up and be better again soon. But I've seen your notifications now! <3

I have been using tumblr for years and am grateful for it, but I am still rubbish at it and can't follow more than about 6 people before I get overwhelmed. I shall try and make some more TWB gifs, though, soon. I should do a little ship-set, right? XD

I agree, Same Actor crossovers are all wrong! I once came across a Silence of the Lambs x Remains of the Day crossover and I am still disturbed from it; my brain does not want those two Anthony Hopkins performances anywhere near each other.

And I very much sympathise with your feelings about Tumblr! I am probably following about the same number of people as you, and I only pop round there about once a year on average, to promote a fic or exchange. I find it much too overwhelming and fast paced to use on the regular - I think DW is the only place where I could be actively fannish...

I do enjoy having it, though, I should also say - it's casual and a bit bigger, and sometimes I get so weirdly claustrophobic on Dreamwidth these days I stop doing things here. tumblr does have one other advantage, though for small fandoms - if there are two of you into a thing, you can find each other at once, which is nice. Assuming the tumblr tags are working properly, lol.

Congrats on your Yuletide! I am tempted by zombie apocalypse fic with biscuits and team-bonding (I mean I loved Train to Busan, but it was sadly lacking in cups of tea) and was going to say that lamentably I was unfamiliar with the canon, but I've just checked and I have seen it! It is not the most memorable title. Will add it to my reading list.

And, oh, this isn't the fic that has tea and biscuits - I was laughing about that because one time I wrote a zombie apocalypse ficlet for New Tricks that involved zero actual zombies and a non-zero amount of tea and biscuits. This one does have some actual zombies in, but no tea or biscuits, because it's not British, lol. It is mainly the canon foe!yay but what if zombies, though.

(I picked The Net up last year in my voyage through Jeremy Northam's CV and I turned out to have seen parts of it before, too! But it had a foe!yay central dynamic that I was sure someone would have ficced somewhere on ff.net, but NO. And then Yuletide rolled around and someone else requested this, what can you do?)
