Important things from DWM... (The repost, with new improved ticky boxes)

(Well, they aren't important, really. It just seemed like a nice header.)

1. Reading the details of 2012 DVD releases was like a Good News, Bad News joke (but only if you are me, fear not everyone else). As follows:

GOOD NEWS!
They have finally given out details of the Robots of Death Special ed.
BAD NEWS!
David Collings is not on the new commentary. *cries*
GOOD NEWS!
I won't be tempted to buy/ask nicely for the wretched box set of things I already own!
BAD NEWS!
Are you joking? You won't be tempted to buy/ask for shiny new RoD with Louise, Tom & Pamela Salem on the commentary, with a new documentary that does include David Collings? Plus, some of the extras on the other two look mildly shiny.
BAD NEWS
Damn. You got me. 2Entertain are evil masterminds.
GOOD NEWS!
They are actually, actually going to release More Than 30 Years... on DVD next year. I was only thinking last night how much I wished they would, but how unlikely it was now.

Also in a similar vein (from last month and this month), it seems 2012 will be the year for some serious McCoy/NA bonuses, thanks to Big Finish. They're going to do a spin-off range featuring Rachel, Gilmore & Allison from Remembrance (with the original actors, yes) and to celebrate Benny's 20th birthday, Jac Rayner is adapting Love & War for Big Finish, and it will feature Sylvester and Sophie and Seven and Ace as well as Lisa Bowerman as Benny.

However, the important bit was the regular debate feature, which was should the anniversary story in 2013 be multi-Doctor or not? Well, we don't really have a choice - Mr Moffat is the lucky (or perhaps highly unlucky?) chap who gets to decide and I am sure he will do something properly celebratory. But, given the choice, is anyone really going to say no on the flimsy pretext that multi-Doctor stories are often silly and sometimes disappointing? If you asked the person on the street who had only watched one episode, they would say there should be multiple Doctors. Non-fans are always wanting to watch the story with lots of Doctors.

This is my theory, so: Poll! Please especially vote if you know very little about DW. :-)

[Poll #1795501]

This poll is very important, because obviously Steven Moffat reads my LJ (he likes people who like Press Gang) and will take the answers into account. (That might not be true.)

Personally, I totally agree with the 'yes' writer, especially on the conclusion, which was basically JUST GIVE US PAUL MCGANN IN A THINGY THAT'S NOT THE TVM. Thank you. Quite. (Even if obviously I would most love Seven, and even though Ten would not be my first pick, can you imagine the combined on-screen hyperactivity there would be with David Tennant and Matt Smith at the same time?)

List of Yuletide fandoms is up. Some slight hitches (oh where is the fandom that was going to be my fourth request? Also Spooks was my fallback, but it doesn't have the character I need) but mainly GLEE. I had seriously worried I wouldn't be able to offer things (because I do need to be realistic at the moment), but someone's nomination even looks as though they seriously want to request a story I've been wanting to write since I was about 13. Also, look, look at the characters in Dungeons & Dragons! Backstory!! (Sorry. I am resigned to the knowledge that this will excite no one else on my flist.) Ye-es. I am probably going to have to request that one...

The important bit about this is mainly that sign-ups are going to go live very soon. Possibly they are, as I haven't checked this afternoon yet. I just need to decide what req. no 4 will be and try and write a Yuletide letter that doesn't go on for thousands of words about how much I love the things I am requesting & confuse my poor, unlucky writer.

Also, the highly organised nature of Diana Wynne Jones's fans is amusing me. You can request/offer Chronicles of Chrestomanci, Dalemark, Eight Days of Luke, Enchanted Glass, Fire & Hemlock, The Game, Hexwood, Magids series, The Homeward Bounders Howl series, The Ogre Downstairs, The Power of Three, A Sudden Wild Magic, A Tale of Time City, The Time of the Ghost and the Tough Guide. (As far as I can think, that's only Dogsbody, Black Maria and Archer's Goon not nominated. And maybe I missed those.)

Also, the last minute discussion on which fandom Kaboom was seems to have generated an unexpected addition of anthroprohic fic about Kaboom cleaner, breakfast cereal...

I voted for everyone - including ticky box and other. Other I would accept David Troughton (or Fraiser Hines) doing Two, and Sean Pertwee as Three, and frankly I accept Richard similiar name Hurdnell in Five Doctors, so I am sure there must be a Harry Hordnell or something out there who could play Hartnell. Or they could cut in more bits of Shada or something while the ones who wanted to be in it ran around. Also Joanna Lumley could be in it, in my world, and maybe Katy Manning as Iris. And Richard E. Grant as REG!Nine.

In short - MULTIDOCTOR STORIES ARE MY FAVOURITE THING, except stories that also have Iris in them.

Also I am well excited about the Jac Rayner Benny adaptation. My DWM is at home waiting to be read...

I also thought - a cartoon would be a perfect way to get all the Doctors in it, and make them look young/the same. I know it's bad to replace actors but I am willing to do it... Perhaps because my favourites are still alive (if much rounder - Colin Baker), and McGann looks the same. Could grow own hair for the part...

I also thought as I was suggesting Iris - people would be confused as to whether she was Jo. And then I thought, well, I will say it anyway.

McGann looks the same. Could grow own hair for the part...

FROM YOUR LIPS TO GOD'S EARS. Seriously, the man needs to grow it back and stop looking like he cut it with a lawn mower/can't be bothered to run a comb through it. Bloody criminal for a man with hair like his to run around like that.

not at all. i am (sadly) always willing to talk about mcgann!hair.

i quite like the short tousled hair, to be honest, but he looks like a cancer victim with a shaved head. not good. one can criticise The Wig and fairly, but he did have nice hair when he auditioned and no hair when he turned up for the part...

[identity profile] alto2.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mind tousled, but bedhead? (Often the impression I've had in interviews and other such appearances in recent years.) I confess I do tend to think it's a bit too short anyway, but that's because I'm ridiculously biased about these things. If you've got the hair, flaunt it, already!!

[identity profile] dbskyler.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't want anyone else standing in for deceased actors, but OMG would I love Frazer Hines as Jamie! Let's get a multi-companion story for the anniversary!!!!!

ext_23799: (eight's shoes fit perfectly)

[identity profile] aralias.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Five Doctors brought back loads of companions (though the bubble wrap scene was frankly not long enough)! So maybe that will happen again...

Actually - talking of old companions, I'm sure Big Finish will think of something spiffy with EVERYONE in it *Cough*Zagreus2*cough*

[identity profile] ravenskyewalker.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
David Troughton might be able to work as Patrick (though, um, I'd much rather he not), but Sean Pertwee... well, there are times when he looks spookily like Jon (at least as far as eyes and cheekbones go), but he says himself (or did in an interview I saw online) that he hasn't got Jon's eccentricity and wouldn't want to try to fill those shoes. I support him entirely on not wanting to try that.

Animated DW with others doing the voices? I suppose that could work.

[identity profile] alto2.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Bring 'em on, mate. I say we get everyone who was ever anyone on this show and have a big old party even if it makes no farking sense whatsoever. Toss sense out the window (nevermind it's been there for almost 5 decades) and have fun. If you're not gonna do it for the 50th, you never will, so...yeah. Bring it on. Hell, get Jon Culshaw, too, and we can have two Fours to really make things festive and make the Four fans happy. Why the hell not? /overenthusiastic ridiculousness

[identity profile] dbskyler.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I will be very disappointed if the anniversary doesn't at least have David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, if only because you just KNOW he would really, really want to do it! In fact, if he doesn't get to do it, I think he might be the most disappointed fan of all. :D

But how awesome would it be to get Paul McGann? And it'd be great to see Colin Baker as the Doctor again, and I love Peter Davison in everything, and Sylvester McCoy is always wonderful, and I've wanted to see Tom Baker back since about 2 minutes after "Logopolis" ended. The only Doctor I honestly don't care about is Nine, but sure, he can be there too. : )

I saw the bit about Kaboom. Sometimes fandom is truly awesome!

[identity profile] ghost2.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha, I said every Doctor, even the ones that don't really do it for me personally. Just chuck 'em all in and see what happens! And add some Frobisher to the mix, too.

I just realized I don't have a Seven icon, which is all kinds of wrong.

I was going to suggest Joanna Lumley and Richard E. Grant, but I see someone got there first. That still leaves Rowan Atkinson (and Philip Hinchcliffe, just to muddy the waters about whether there were Doctors before One).

Also I want Graeme Garden and Stephen Fry to reprise their audio roles onscreen, and an appearance from the Corsair.
paranoidangel: Harry Sullivan, Harry Pearce, Harry Potter (Harrys)

[personal profile] paranoidangel 2011-11-16 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Also Spooks was my fallback, but it doesn't have the character I need)

You should have said, I'd have added said character when I nominated it, since I only cared about Harry being on the list.

Also, I'm not quite sure I want to request Harry anyway, so it's just as well I added some extra characters.

[identity profile] lizzie-marie-23.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I voted for nine, eight, and five, but really I'd be happy with any of them. Also other, because Rowan Atkinson totally counts as one of the incarnations.

In all seriousness though, PENGUINS!

That is all.

[identity profile] jjpor.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
To be honest, I'm perfectly willing to accept the arguments of (boring!) people who say The Three/Five/Two Doctors aren't the greatest Who stories ever made (as indeed they are not), but I just want my 50th anniversary multi-Doctor story I've been pining for ever since it first occurred to me that the 50-year mark was coming up, like, really soon, comparatively. So there. ;D

As who should be in it, I'd be open to any surviving Doctors who remain willing and/or able. I'd love to see McGann, to be honest. I'd love to see McCoy more (obviously!) - that Youtube video that was going round a while back of him reading lines from Eleven stories convinces me he's still got "it" (although I supposed if I listened to more audios, they might convince me too, but...yeah, I'm not a diligent audio-consumer, as you know). Even if they only get Tennant back, I'd probably count it as a result, really.

As for stand-ins for One/Two/Three...on the one hand I think "no, terrible idea", but on the other... Y'see, I don't actually mind Richard Hurndall in The Five Doctors as much as some fans would like me to - I think I came round to him when I finally realised he wasn't trying to do a (very bad) impression of Hartnell but actually playing the part his own way. I'd like to see Sean Pertwee giving Three his best shot, to be honest - he looks more and more like his dad every time I see in him something, and I think he's actually a really good actor on the quiet. Ditto David Troughton. I think the thing is, if they went down that route there'd be the inevitable fan backlash etc, so maybe better if they just leave all of that alone, really.

But yes, Moffat had better read this post and the comments and take notice! He better had...! :D

[identity profile] librarylover82.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
I voted for everyone, but I'm not sure how I would feel about stand-ins. I didn't mind the alternate One in Five Doctors, but NO ONE can replace Trout. Fraser Hines needs to be in it though!

I sent Moffat a message on Twitter asking for a multi-Doctor story for the 50th. I say we start a Twitter campaign until he agrees to do it. How about #DW50 for the hashtag?

[identity profile] daibhid-c.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I voted for everything. Except "the Doctor should meet a ticky-box", because that's just silly 8-).

"Others" I'd like to see would include Richard E. Grant (preferably as ShalkaDoc, rather than COFDDoc), Joanna Lumley, Jackson Lake, any Unbound Doctors not played by Arabella Weir, and Mysterious Future Doctors.

And when I say "penguins", I mean "Frobisher", obviously.
