historicalyafen is starting (what should be) an ongoing children's/YA historical lit comment fest

I thought I'd post it here, because it's something I watch, but it's a small comm, so just to let you know if you'd like to play, or if you know of anyone else it will interest, you can pass it on & help there be more rare fandom ficlets in the world. (They've got a fairly wide definition of historical ya/child. lit on the comm; as long as it's comes on a ya/child. lit list somewhere and is set in this world's past, or an au of this world's past, anything goes.)

I might see if I can think of any Joan Aiken prompts to leave or something. Tomorrow or later, though, as earlier today I used up my concentration and hurt my head by accidentally thinking too much. *head!desk*

No, I asked about stuff that was contemporary when written, but is now historical and they decided not. But it's okay if it's got a slight fantasy/au/sf thing, but is also historical, so they're not being over-strict. I hadn't thought about CS, but I was wondering about leaving a Secret Garden prompt or something.

Thank you. I just keep getting overtired lately for various reasons, but I think I should be able to pick myself back up over this coming week properly and just get on with the getting well again! *hugs back*

Talking of Frances Hodgson Burnett, have you read her The Lost Prince? It's my favourite one of hers.

No, I haven't - I'll have to see if I can find it sometime. I've read The Secret Garden and A LIttle Princess, but I think I haven't read anything else by her.

I find quite a few of hers are overly religious, and she seems to have a thing about making kids orphans. I don't think I've read anything of hers where she doesn't have the mother, the father, or *both* die either before the book starts or before you get well into the story. Apart from that, I do enjoy quite a few of her books.

No, thanks - that's worth knowing. Online books aren't much use to me yet, but I might well get an ereader sometime, and then it will be!!

Mind you, the orphan thing... That's true of so many children's books!! In fact, especially in fantasy or historical settings, it's probably abnormal to have parents. Or at least, parents who are alive and nice. I suppose it's a device to let the child have adventures without adults, really.
