A Very Average AO3 Stats Meme
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
So, here we are, some highly unreliable averages and a slightly different AO3 stats meme again:
Average word count: 1702
Average hits count: 283 (wildly skewed by the AO3 hits bug/bots)
Average Kudos count: 14
Average no. of comment threads: 2
Average no. of Bookmarks: 2 (1.6, but technically that should get rounded up rather than down, so...)
Which suggests that my average fic should be about 1702 words, with 14 kudos, 2 comment threads and 1 or 2 bookmarks, which sounds surprisingly correct, actually. Probably Doctor Who or S&S and maybe for a bingo or 500 prompts or something. *nods*
The hits count is, as I said, skewed, however, but there's no way to get the actual number.
Work(s) closest to the average word count:
Fair Warning (Poul/Uvanov, Kaldor City, a 500 prompt fic) with 1708 words, with Shelved (or The Whistle Stop Library Tour of the Universe) (OUaT/DW crossover, Clara/Belle, effectively five times library fic) at 1712 and Final Stand (DW, Brig/Liz, for 500 prompts) at 1692 words.
So, obscure David Collings stuff, Doctor Who, a crossover, five times format, libraries and Brig/Liz? That is so very me I would be insulted if I weren't going through my own fanfic in a meme I made up myself.
Work(s) closest to the average hit count:
I have one work at exactly 283 hits - Synergy (S&S, 133 words, Assignment 3 tag that was, I think, my very first bit of S&S fic.)
The two nearest at 284 and 282 respectively are Til My Fingers Bleed (a hc_bingo Leela & Poul 500 prompts fic) and Salt of the Earth (DW, Minor Characters Ficathon, Mrs Tyler from Image of the Fendahl). Any meme that brings up Salt of the Earth is a good meme. It's my current fic that I would pick as being most representative of me and good (I think).
(The below were meant to be average no of comments, then kudos, then bookmarks, but that turned out to be unsurprisingly large numbers, so I combined them to get more useful results, but anyone else can do whichever of those works best for them.)
Work(s) closest to the average no of comments + kudos: (14 kudos + 2 comment threads)
Fallen (or How Charlotte Pollard Very Nearly Reformed The Master) (DW, Charley/Delgado Master(ish)*, via a DW Random Pairing Generator Prompt. As an older Teaspoon fic, it is probably actually less average than this, but this is an AO3 meme.)
In Public Spaces (S&S, Lead/Steel, Fandom Stocking ficlet for

Possibly Not In Chronological Order (or Five Times River Song Flirted With Danger) (DW, five crossover vignettes with River Song/Regina Mills, River/Lix Storm, River/Ros Myers, River/Romana & River/Sapphire), which I like quite a lot but which suffers no doubt from containing so many different fandoms (DW, OUaT, The Hour, Spooks & Sapphire & Steel) in one thing.
Wolves of the Mind (S&S, Silver/Steel meme ficlet)
So, that's a random pairing fic (Fallen is pretty much the most me-ish thing you could get pre-being ill), crossovers and a prompt ficlet, which also seems pretty accurate as being my typical fare. And I'm still quite fond of Fallen. (Which is the one where my beta had to ask whether or not the Master had Dracula stashed in his TARDIS or was in fact reading the novel.)
Work(s) closest to the average no of comments + bookmarks: (2 + 2)
This came up with 10 works, so I'll just list them briefly, excepting Possibly Not in Chronological Order (clearly the most average fic I've ever written): Legend's Ending (SotT), what we need is here (Eight/Charley), Bedside Manner (Six & Peri), A Minute's Peace (Heyer), Star Sleepers (One, Ian, Babs & Vicki), Mishaps in Butter Icing (Eleven, Clara & cakefic), Surprise! (Seven & Benny), , Sherwood, But Not As We Know It (Seven, Ace & Maid Marian), & A Comedy of Errors (Spooks/B7).
Which adds some James Maxwell, a drabble, Spooks, and cakefic, even if not at the same time, without which you would not have a fair picture of me and my works, so I'm not arguing with those either, although that is unsurprisingly a more random selection.

looking over a four leaf clover (Origfic for Hetswap 2018, Spoiled Heiress/Her Father's Valet; it's the sort of x times fic style that I enjoy doing a lot, and used to do more of - and want to again, because it really is fun and one of the things fanfic is built for, as you don't have to explain what each separate section is doing. Which I say on an origfic, lol, but the general principle is true... This was not as good as the Librarian/Demon one - which has shot into the top tens, I am proud to say, but I liked it, and so did most people except the recipient who never came back to comment on either of them in the end. They were travelling somewhere, apparently. I hope nothing ate them.)
Gothic Romance (DW, Clara/Scaroth, because obv. Time Splinters should unite (ish)* at some point, right? For the Minor Characters Ficathon.)
AU Meme: Sixth Doctor & Evelyn Smythe (What it says on the tin! 10x Six & Evelyn AUs, averagely appreciated by the Big Finish brigade)
A Stitch in Time (DW/Miss Marple, Brig/Liz (maybe), as birthday fic for

Plus Possibly Not In Chronological Order again. It is a very averagely appreciated work! (I used to count it as underappreciated, River flirting being my most averagely appreciated work is pretty amusing.)
I have to say, that does sound far more like me than the usual results, which are, I suppose, by definition the outliers on either end. And obviously, the works are still random, but they would make a pretty fair primer for my works and fannish pursuits should anyone ever want such a thing.
So, the averages may be dodgy mathematically but on the basis of this, they definitely do reflect better my own idea of my typical works, or possibly I am just very average; it could go either way. I'm not sure what this says about anything, though. It probably doesn't. :-D
And the meme in a text box, should anyone else be up for a bit more navel gazing. (

* My shipfic is so often other people's gen, alas. Also neither villain nor hero in either case were comfortable with shippy shippiness anyway. Just ambiguous shippiness and that mainly in the latter one. Scaroth and Clara do alternately faint into each other's arms, though, which was mostly for plot reasons, although also because I've read Jane Austen's juvenilia.

Good to know your averages are average, my head hurts now!

If the other meme made me do maths, I might as well get double the use out of it...

Aw, thank you! I take it you're enjoying it, then? (And o_0, I confess I got very carried away and wrote like 80 fic(lets) afterwards over about 2 years.

This made me crack up!
Interesting that the average stories were indeed so representative!

And I did expect them to be far less representative than they were - but given the randomness of stats, on a different day they might have been, I suppose.

Clearly I will have to do it now, especially since you provided a text box to copy it from :)

Clearly at some point this should happen. I expect Denholm Drac would be amenable; he's more sociable than most Draculas!

I suspect people (okay, me) would be interested to compare it to their own.
