Those rumours again

You know those rumours about missing DW episodes that just won't quite die? They've returned again and this time various sources are claiming that tomorrow the BBC are going to announce missing Patrick Troughton stories to be available digitally this week. (And that there may also be more found.)

At least this time, there's a deadline. We don't hear anything tomorrow, obviously it's just more rumour-mongering, but if we do...

*tries very hard not to think about that and get my hopes up for no reason*

ETA: Of course, now they're saying "end of the week" instead... *eyes rumours darkly*

Deadlines been moved to Thursday in this game of ever-shifting goal posts (source). If I had to put money on this I'd guess they'd found something but it's more likely to be a couple of episodes rather than a vast missing episode mountain of some description.

I think, at this stage, there's likely to be a something (I'd wager at least a tenner on it), just because with a rumour as specific as a press conference on Thursday (now being reported in the Guardian as well), you'd expect them to deny at least that fact if it wasn't true.

I think our copybooks need a new heading.

In the era of black and white telly we were told that a present we'd earned:
That someone had found all the stories, including the ones that were burned.
And then when it all came to nothing, we tore out our hair from the stress;
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "Don't trust the tabloid press."

It's like the Rapture. It's always coming tomorrow.

Exasperating, isn't it! I couldn't resist looking at Ian Levine's Twitter account yesterday, and he was up and down like a yo-yo. Watching him swearing it's true, then swearing it isn't, is almost more fun than the possibility of new episodes. ;)

Some more Troughton would be great, wouldn't it. I do prefer Hartnell (especially the Ian and Barbara era), but poor old Trout got hit so hard by the deletions. It would be nice to think that a bit more of his work had been recovered. I remember, so many years ago, being given the Target novelisation of "Fury From The Deep", and loving it to pieces. Finding out that it was missing some years later really stung! It would be so nice to have something more from that era...

*sigh*

Must. Not. Get. Hopes. Up. :)

If rumour is to be believed, it's the missing bits of "Enemy Of The World" and "Web Of Fear". The latter would be especially nice, I must say, since it's the Brig's first appearance (still a Colonel then of course!). And sort of Benton's first appearance, although he was being a Yeti then, which is a bit anti-social.

Still, we'll have to wait and see...

Just give me Evil of the Daleks and Marco Polo, that's all I ask for... *hopes in the knowledge that my hopes will all be crushed*

The persistence of these rumours is pretty damn hilarious though, whether or not they turn out to be true.

If I wasn't laughing I'd be crying. Probably.

*Clings* Now BBC News says it's real. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO BELIEVE ANYMORE.

Ye-es, but I'm still trying not to get my hopes up for something AMAZING. Like Marco Polo. Or The Highlanders. Or just more Ben and Polly. >3>

Right now I'll just... concetrate on signing up for Yuletide. Which is hard enough as it is.

*Twitch* ... at least I will know exactly how people felt when the recovered episode of Galaxy 4 was announced.

And I literally spent hours today just trying to find stuff to request and offer, to my emotional anguish. "What I want to read" "what I feel comfortable writing/requesting" and "what is available" seem to intersect waaay too rarely considering more than a thousand fandoms are available... I'll leave the letter for the weekend.

(I could've just stocked up on Doctor Who spin-offs, but I'm weird about Yuletide in that I try to get away from my main fandoms that one time of the year... so no SJA or Big Finish for me. Unless other people write for them, of course.)

Well, the Beep's not been all that great on the Classic front, so at least this would give it some attention.

This whole roundabout is absolutely insane, has been for months. I dread to think what's going on behind the scenes, but there's definitely something in the wind! Just hope it's all over soon, for everyones' sakes. I mean, I guess there must be reasons for the prolonged silence and can imagine various possibilities, but since the cat is very much out of the bag and making a mess already, it seems pointless to try to hide it any more.

[identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com 2013-10-08 08:36 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks - once upon a time I used to like experimenting with icon-making - I'm much lazier now!

I've seen so many theories doing the rounds over the last few days, weeks and months, I don't know what to believe any more. One thing that has been mentioned is that if new/lost episodes are back and being made available digitally, they may not have been retored, merely scanned to allow us to see them as is before the no doubt lengthy restoration process begins. Could be something in that, or it could just be more wishful thinking!

If they've found Marco Polo, Web of Fear, Power of the Daleks...I may just start screaming.

But I can't bring myself to be optimistic yet. I want to believe! I'm just not sure I dare...

*dances with you*

Gallifrey Base are still not allowing any discussion of the news until the formal announcement later in the week. But it looks to be pretty safely in the bag now, surely!

[identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com 2013-10-08 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes indeedy, there is another MBW coming up - I've seen it mentioned on the GB forums. So...well, at this point, I daresay we'll find out for sure sooner rather than later! Apparently there may also be a splash in the next DW magazine, which comes out on 17th Oct.

GB are now allowing celebrations ahead of the formal announcement. Something is definitely in the bag - we just have to wait and find out what!
