I hadn't forgotten about the challenge. I just immediately, on finishing S6 of DW, knew I had to make my next post this one... and then just felt terribly bad because my impression from my flist last year was that an awful lot of people didn't enjoy it. (Although I suspect having the DVDs and no anxious waiting between eps helps!!) In fact, it was so long ago, I've been using the icon I made for the post for weeks. Anyway...

9. Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith)

Photobucket Photobucket

I'd say Matt Smith, but I've only seen him as Eleven - and he's so very Doctorish, I'm not sure I even want to see him in anything else, or not yet. I'll be restrained, anyway, and just say, I like him a lot (and it's such a relief to love a New Who Doctor quite so easily), and he won me over in S5 for the little nods to Hartnell and to Troughton - and in S6 I distinctly noticed a look of Five's he's perfected and a thing Seven does with his hands. Maybe these are flimsy reasons to love an actor or a Doctor, but it works for me. ♥ (I mean, there are other things, but his natural Doctorishness, and endearing nods to his former incarnations are lovely.)

Anyway, I don't want to start serious DW discussion here, sorry, (although not that I want to thwart it elsewhere) so, you know, if you agree, squee with restraint, and if you don't, pity me nicely.

And what I really want to know, now I've caught up is: did I miss anything? So, bearing in mind I am still shaky on the concentration (the only thing I can do with a long fic, really, is bookmark it), but if I missed any fics/vids/whatever during S6 for fear of spoilers, please rec me now!

I watched [livejournal.com profile] calapine's vid Poison straight off, but that was about it. Oh, but I did wonder whether anyone had written Lorna Bucket's first meeting with the Doctor, but couldn't see anything from mild searching. (It's just me, I go, ooh! Eleven + child! *want*. I blame wee!Amelia a lot.)

Sitting there, in a cowboy hat and a bow tie, reading Knitting For Girls with genuine interest, it's Eleven all over. It's the Doctor all over, really, and that's kind of what I mean.

Quite a lot of us wanted to see wee!Amelia travel with Eleven.

And the lovely thing is that the actress who played her as done some conventions already...

I thoroughly agree with you about Matt Smith and his wonderful Doctorishness. You really can see lovely little echoes of past Doctors in his performance, stuff that thoroughly convinces you that, yes, he really is the same person.

Also, watching him with kids is the funnest thing ever.

(Was that sufficiently restrained squeeing? :))

I think one of the reasons that I love Matt so much is that he seems the most like the "old" doctors. He has all the classic quirkyness of Tom and Pat.

Matt Smith has really done his research - I see so much Seven in him. So much Five. And sometimes, he's so much like an old man in a young man's body, it's amazing.

I love Matt Smith's Doctor. The writing for his seasons has been a bit hit-and-miss, to be sure, but you can say that about most eras of Who - I'm happy to sit back and enjoy watching Eleven being wonderfully Doctorish!

I saw Matt Smith in Secret Diary of a Call Girl, and he was so completely different, I had to keep reminding myself it was him! I think that's the mark of a really great actor, especially considering how Doctorish he is on Doctor Who. Which he is indeed.

I don't remember reading any fics about Lorna Bucket, but it's possible someone wrote one. You might try asking over at [profile] dw_ficsearch (I'd be interested too!)

As for recs, here's a great, happy-making fanvid (I recced it on my LJ but warned for spoilers through S6, so I'm not sure if you watched it or not): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nyLsabXd8Y

...my sister owns that exact cowboy hat. I hadn't got a good look at it before. O_O

(It used to be mine, actually, only it didn't fit. I have a teensy head; most hats won't stay on.)

Also, yay Matt Smith! ♥ I thought he would make a good Doctor ever since his first interview about being cast - I am so glad that pretty much THE REST OF THE UNIVERSE thinks the same now. :D

I have to admit that I love Matt Smith as the Doctor, and so does my mother (which I thought was lovely, because she had such fun watching him, though she wasn't sure at first). It's because he feels the most like Classic Doctors, though very old and sad and tired along with his moments of bizarre gleefulness. So, whatever the problems with the writing, he feels more like a Classic Doctor than Eccleston or Tennant, and I'm glad to see that again. I'm also glad to see that Smith, who really didn't know DW at first, became such a nerdy fan and is having so much fun. *grin*

So, what did you think of the whole thing I was cranky about at the end of S6?

I was really worried about Matt Smith. I had my issues with Ten (not Tennant, but Ten), but good lord, they're going to cast some wee lad who's barely out of short pants? I watched the whole "Geronimo!" bit at the end of The End of Time with skepticism, though, "I'm a girl?!?" broke through it a bit--but I was still plenty nervous for The Eleventh Hour.

And I was 167% sold by the time the opening credits rolled. (And then Moff proceeded to rewrite The Christmas Invasion as it should have been done, which still amuses me no end...)

And I just explained all the reasons for that in great detail before remembering that "restraint" thing. Ahem. Anyway...yes. Yes to all that. (Can I just add "Closing Time"? Because OMG yes...)

I certainly won't pity you nicely for liking Eleven. In S6, I'm particularly fond of the way he reveals Amy's true nature at the end of 'The Almost People' — all he needs is a brolly with a ?-mark handle.

I shall steadfastly refrain from listing all the fic I've written that you might have skipped because of S6 spoilers. Actually, now I come to look at it, there really isn't that much :-)

HELLOOOOOO!

I've been away so long this time that my flist got cut off before I could go back far enough. So excuse me commenting randomly all over this entry.

Firstly hi hi how are you! How was your parents' visit! How's things going for your sister, and your other sister's baby which goodness must be imminent now! You don't have to answer all these questions by the way!

Secondly, YAY ELEVEN, and although I can remember hardly any of series 5 or 6, I now want some wee!Amelia really badly.
