Another [community profile] genprompt_bingo fic. (I've now made a bingo if I want it, but I still have my eye on that border bingo, though...)

1. I had another look at the eligibility criteria for the current [community profile] hc_bingo challenge and realised that S&S is too big and now I don't know what to do, frankly. Oh, well, at least there are no penalties.

2. I've been continuing to work on making a Genderswap recs list for [community profile] genprompt_bingo (my idea I thought of turned out to also fit the next door as-yet-unfilled "Conficting Oaths/Obligations" square, so that worked out fine) and it's more or less done, though I need to check it again, but I felt the need to share with everyone here that when I was going through the tag on AO3, I came across a genderswapped Romeo & Juliet fic where they'd been renamed as Giulio... and Romana.

This classic Who fan immediately cannot picture that going anything like the original. (I didn't read it; it could only have disappointed after imagining Four and Romana doing R&J for TTR Storytime or something.)

3. You may recall that I currently wrangle The White Queen on AO3, which led to me wrangling The White Princess and having to watch almost the entire damned thing it. (I keep thinking I should say it wasn't that bad, but the thing is, it really was. I still find gifsets painful just because of the costumes. I mean, there's inaccurate but for reasons, and inaccurate but pretty (which is a reason) and then there's just... The White Princess. And it was so bad it should have been so much fun, I still want to try and pretend in my head it was. Still, at least the Henry/Elizabeth modern AUs are great.)

Anyway, the reason I mention this is because Starz have NO MERCY and have now made Philippa Gregory's next book, The Spanish Princess, and a brief gifset that crossed my path has left me boggling already because what even is that? (Yes, that is Elizabeth of York and Catherine of Aragon because GOD ONLY KNOWS. Luckily it's a close up so you needn't worry about costumes. Yet.)

The thing is, based on my previous experience, I probably will end watching at least some of this for wrangling purposes. *weeps* WHYYYY. Unless, of course, The Tudors wrangler bites the bullet for me. It could go either way...

(Hmm, I wonder if Margaret Beaufort will murder Arthur and Elizabeth of York as well? Can anyone die and not be murdered by Margaret Beaufort, that well known 15th C serial killer?*)

* I only wish I was joking.

I sid yesterday that I had finished two stories recently, and this is the second - a 500 Prompts fic for [tumblr.com profile] allegoriesinmediasres.

I didn't complete my assignment, so I have no main fic in the collection, but, once I'd put the poor malformed thing down and admitted defeat, I went back to some treats I'd had vague ideas for already:

Served Cold (3402 words) by lost_spook
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Dracula (TV 1968), Dracula & Related Fandoms
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Major Character Death
Relationships: Jonathan Harker/Mina Harker
Characters: Jonathan Harker, Mina Harker, John Seward, Abraham Van Helsing
Additional Tags: Post-Canon, Dark, Revenge, Vampires, Blood, Yuletide Treat, Crueltide, Major Character Undeath, Rocks Fall Everyone Dies, Mentions of Mina/Lucy
Summary: Mina’s one remaining desire is simple: she wants revenge.

I'm never less anonymous than when writing for Dracula (TV 1968), but one of [personal profile] calliopes_pen's prompts, about the Harkers getting revenge on Van Helsing, matched something I'd already come up with. (A five times fic about Mina, which actually I might type up as well anyway, since this adaptation of the end segment wound up very different to the original.) And, er, what the tags say, really!

Of Human Bondage (or Five Times Adam and His Friends Found Themselves All Tied Up) (2486 words) by lost_spook
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Adam Adamant Lives!
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Adam Adamant & Georgina Jones & William E. Simms
Characters: Adam Adamant, William E. Simms, Georgina Jones, Louise (Adam Adamant Lives), Other(s)
Additional Tags: Victorian, 5 Times, Yuletide Treat, Humor, Bondage, 1960s, Hijinks & Shenanigans
Summary: In Adam’s line of work, getting tied up is practically a daily occurrence.

I'd also wanted to do two AAL! stories (the other one being Liadt's prompt about Adam's house), but that was over-ambitious, but at the eleventh hour before I left for home, I managed to finish this, which was pure frivolous fun and I enjoyed coming up with the canon-typical ridiculous scenarios and also dropping rl historical figures into them too just because I could. (I'm sorry, Liadt! One day!)

(With many thanks to [personal profile] persiflage_1 who never even blinks regardless of what I ask her to beta, or when, or how fast and who went through all three of them to catch any typos and moments of ME-incoherency. <3 <3 <3)

And, as I've said, my gifts were pretty fab all round and at least now I know who to thank! And I may be able to write a couple NYRs too, which would be great. And next year I will be v v careful about what I sign up for. (The thing about book fandoms is that in most cases, I still find reading hard work, so canon review exhausted me and squashed any hope of fic before I'd started, especially once life also took a hand. Whoops.)
thisbluespirit: (I Capture - writing)
So, I wrote things for Yuletide. Somewhat more than I expected...

Firstly, and most importantly, my assignment, which was for [livejournal.com profile] paranoidangel42. I had, when signing up initially, looked at my list of fandoms I was willing to write and said to myself I might as well have just said I'd write for Paranoidangel. And then laughed, shook my head at myself, reminded myself that Yuletide is a big exchange and added in a bunch of other fandoms... and then got assigned to Paranoidangel! (So, erm, sorry about that - you just got yet more of me instead of somebody new! I had fun writing for you, though! ♥)

Backstitch in Gold (3948 words) by lost_spook
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The House of Eliott
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Beatrice Eliott & Evangeline Eliott, Beatrice Eliott/Jack Maddox
Characters: Beatrice Eliott, Evangeline Eliott, Jack Maddox
Additional Tags: Yuletide, 1920s, Fashion & Couture, Sister-Sister Relationship, Misses Clause Challenge, Women Being Awesome
Summary:

What has been well-stitched together doesn’t easily fray at the seams.

I'd been rewatching HoE recently and was determined to write fic for it, because there's so little of it, and knew what I wanted to do - a sort of big Bea and Evie across-the-years, culminating in a fixit for the ending. But then it seemed to fall flat in various places, and the ending wasn't quite how I remembered it, thus scuppering my planned final section and I floundered for a while. (I had in my head that Bea and Evie had a big row and, actually, they don't. Evie is angry at everyone, but Bea is muted, almost defeated.) However, eventually, I beat it into shape & hopefully it wasn't too bad! (I've learned by now, though, that I pretty much always feel my assignments are terrible - until the next year, when suddenly I realise that last year's was quite good... but this year's is terrible.)

Anyway, it was fun to write Bea & Evie, and I am still very fond of the series. (Which follows the fortunes of a pair of sisters who set up a London fashion house in the 1920s and is good fun & all up on YT if anyone is interested). I did want to work in more characters, though, and more social history... and, yes, well, possibly being unrealistic? I think in my head I wanted to write a big HofE novel, that's all. At least I finally came up with a title I liked. I had the summary before the fic, but it was in danger of being posted as "Untitled House of Eliott fic" as the deadline approached. (Backstitch is the strongest stitch commonly used for sewing & in gold, obviously, but also because that's how Jack refers to Bea early on. Hmm, I'm not sure now why I changed it from "Backstitch in Gold Thread" because that makes more sense! I shall go change it back.)

And more under the cut! )

Also I now know that it was Clocketpatch who risked complete obscurity by writing me that last minute Public Eye/Sapphire & Steel treat. (Thanks so much, Clocket! You're amazing!) My other wonderful gift was by DesertScribe, who's new to me, but whom I hope hasn't written their last S&S fic, because that one was excellent. ♥
thisbluespirit: (s&s - silver)
So I decided it would be better to make icons for the BBC's old 1972 serial about Henry VII, Shadow of the Tower than to babble about it. And then I had too much fun, as you can see, with eps 1-5 (& hopefully I'll do the rest in a second post).
