[community profile] remixrevival has gone live and despite my defaulting, I have a remix written for me in the collection! (I also, despite my defaulting, eventually managed to get my original assignment written, which I was v relieved about. Inspiration has never struck so rapidly and typing up has never been so delayed.)

Anyway, someone has written this for me, which is an expansion of one of my prompt meme ficlets that so happened to have the Delgado Master and Liz Shaw stuck together in the past as pirates. I mean, who didn't want to see the full story behind that one? And now you may!

I Always Wanted To Be A Pirate Queen (The Hungover Remix) (1825 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Doctor Who (1963)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Liz Shaw (Doctor Who), The Master (Delgado)
Additional Tags: Humor
Summary: Trust a Time Lord to get himself and Liz Shaw stranded in the 17th century. Luckily Liz is a woman of wide and varied competence.

I haven't read much else yet, but I really enjoyed the one SJA fic, so I can rec that: No. 36 Bannerman Road.

Anyway, the collection is live and there are 71 fandoms in there, so there should be plenty of other good stuff!

Part the Second! Yuletide truly is a bottomless marvel. I have never yet read through everything I wanted to in any year, or caught up on past years. (I should also note that I've been rather arbitrary in what I read for fandoms with several works, so these recs are not to say that the other works are not worth checking out!)

16 recs in 12th Century RPF, Anne of Green Gables, Bletchley Circle, The Goblin Emperor, Howl's Moving Castle, I Capture the Castle, Jeeves & Wooster, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, Last Tango in Halifax, Lion in Winter, The Mummy, Sarah Jane Adventures )

The main Remix collection was revealed today, so I can admit that I wrote:

Coffee and Crumbs (The Idiot in the Attic Remix) (2145 words) by lost_spook
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Doctor Who (2005), Sarah Jane Adventures
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Twelfth Doctor & Sarah Jane Smith
Characters: Sky Smith, Twelfth Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, Mr Smith (Sarah Jane Adventures)
Additional Tags: Remix, remixrevival, Post-Episode: s08e01 Deep Breath, Episode: 2013 Xmas The Time of the Doctor
Summary: The Doctor always returns to Bannerman Road at the important moments. It's the timing that's so hard to get right...

It's a remix of [personal profile] paranoidangel's Tea and Biscuits, because we just can't avoid each other in these things! Anyway, it was fun and I had plenty of options to choose from, but my heart wanted this one. I'd actually beta-ed Tea and Biscuits (and it was a gift fic for [personal profile] dbskyler, too), which is a little odd, but so far in my remixing, I've always gone for stories I've loved and that's what drew me to T&B quite quickly. I'm not sure what the key is (I'm sure you could remix almost anything with a bit of work and inspiration), but certainly a story that speaks to me, one I can say something in response to is maybe what that sudden, "That's the one!" spark is. Anyway, this was fun. I was little worried about effectively switching Eleven for Twelve, because it borders on going too far - but on the other hand, the Doctor is the Doctor, and I know Paranoidangel doesn't have an aversion to any of them. (Well, as far as I know!)

And I see that I have [personal profile] estirose to thank for the remix of my Dungeons & Dragons fic! (Madness is still unrevealed, although I do have a suspicion...)

A Robots/Artificial Intelligences Hurt/Comfort recs list for [community profile] hc_bingo square "Robots/androids". I widened the definition out to include all AI (but there are at least 10 recs that feature more unambiguous androids/robots, just to make sure I'm definitely covered on the challenge requirements).

Robots/Androids Rec Set )

I'd been hoping to get back and read some more Yuletide fic and make another recs post, and Day Three of [community profile] snowflake_challenge is to rec at least three fanworks, so I'm killing two birds with one stone here, with another selection of recs from this year's Yuletide, (though actually I gave up around the end of M. One day I will have ability to read enough online, but this year is not that point so I didn't read many long fics in the same fandoms, so omissions are frequently to do with that rather than lack of quality):

13 recs in Cadfael, Chronicles of Chrestomanci, Discworld, Eternal Law, The Importance of Being Earnest, Miss Marple, Pushing Daisies, Georgette Heyer, & The Sarah Jane Adventures )
thisbluespirit: (Northanger reading)
Hastily, before reveals this afternoon! There are heaps of things I haven't even looked at, stuff I probably didn't bookmark, some of these I might not yet have commented on, but let's have a look before we all cease to be anonymous.

(And, of course, not forgetting my wonderful gifts, all recced here - Chalet School, Miss Marple & Ten Stupidest Things I've Heard Since Richard III's Remains Were Uncovered.)

21 recs in 17 Fandoms - Cold Comfort Farm, Dead Like Me, Emma, Georgette Heyer, Ghost Soup, The Good Life, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, Love, Actually, The Mummy, North and South, Northanger Abbey, Red Dwarf, Sarah Jane Adventures, Ten Stupidest Things, and While You Were Sleeping )
thisbluespirit: (Default)
I've barely scratched the surface and have been mostly working through alphabetically. Until my parents' internet cut out, and after I'd finally read my own gifts to my own satisfaction, I did have a bit where I could even read quite long things (ish), which was fun. And while some of these have been recced a lot, others really haven't that I've seen, so here goes:

19 recs in 15th C RPF, Blake's 7, Brittas Empire, Enchanted Glass, Fire & Hemlock, Ghost Soup Infidel Blue, Inspector Alleyn Mysteries, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, Julius Caesar, Madeleine L'Engle/Doctor Who, Matilda, Measure for Measure, Monkey Island, New Tricks & Sarah Jane Adventures )

(My Mum's laptop is great for reading stuff on AO3, but not so good for me actually doing stuff, even plus rl things and tiredness, so don't be misled into thinking I am actually here. ;-p)

But really, I have to say something because Yuletide! I had five gifts in the main collection. Truly. Five!! (Well, four and a half, one is gifted both to me and another; I think I must own the half with the penguin). I haven't moved onto any other fics yet, although so many wonderful things there because I've been trying to read mine. (I have now, and \o/ although I really need to read the longer ones again.) But if any of my Dear Writers are reading this (and I have a strong feeling two of them may well be), then thank you! Not only are they all great in very different ways, but also for my sort of happy gloating as a new fic appeared each day. I've been spoiled rotten already, and I still have two Madness fics tomorrow. So thank you! You all made me so happy! ♥

Anyway, the fics, for they are marvellous and should be read!

Five recs - mine all mine btw - in Blake's 7 15th C RPF and Sarah Jane Adventures )

In other news, I somehow managed to post four fics in the main collection (!) and if anyone wants to guess, you're welcome. I could make you an icon of your choice if you're right, if you wish. (Although maybe not if EVERYONE gets it right - one is probably rather obvious!)

I'm reccing on [livejournal.com profile] calufrax again this week (they did not get many volunteers when they last asked so I went for it; I can't be worse than a non-existent reccer) and am oddly terrified and feel like a fraud. Luckily, my bookmarks are still all full of nice things as yet-unrecced. And, besides, [livejournal.com profile] eve11 made it to 50 recs recently - and informed me (when I congratulated her) that I was on 49. Much to my shock. So now I've made it to 50 as well! (Er. That wasn't the only reason I volunteered again, but it was a factor, maybe...)

Anyway, I meant to post this here yesterday and forgot - I'm sure it will amuse quite a few of you as much as it did me: [livejournal.com profile] touchdownpossum made an excellent/ funny K9/Mr Smith fanvid:

ETA: Oh, damn. I knew I'd completely forget to crosspost and just be erratic and inconsistent.

So there's not much going on, and I couldn't resist retrying the meme using last names. Some couples stayed together despite the odds: Evie Eliott & Eowyn, Frobisher & Gandalf, Maddy & Maid Marian, and Servalan & Seven. The results were mostly much scarier than last time, but it did throw up some things that were amusing - and one or two I want badly now:

More mayhem and scary pairings )
thisbluespirit: (be - laura/brittas (eek))
Meme found in the wild: Make a list of all the characters in your icons. (Although you may have more than one icon of a single character, they only go on the list once.) Alphabetize it. Take the first two people on the list; that's your first pairing. Second two people; second pairing, etc. Treat us to some commentary once you're done.

I thought it'd be fun... I hadn't quite realised what a weird jumble of characters I have - some of them are there more for the action in the icon than the character. So, in most cases, let's say that instead of a commentary, a horrified silence might be more appropriate?

(Actually, it turned out better than I expected. For the first half of the alphabet, anyway.)

38 random pairings and an odd man out )
thisbluespirit: (dw - rani chandra)
It occurred to me part-way through this that while I had excluded Doctor Who (so that it didn't take up all but one of the 30 days) - and DW for me always includes the main lines of audios and novels, as they were each intended as genuine continuations when they started - that there were two DW spin-offs, that would never get a look-in if I had the whole of the show to play with, so...

She is no witch... she is an angel... )

... to say I finally got around to posting the [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking stories I wrote (or most of them) into the community's AO3 collection. So, apologies those of you who may suddenly find a note to say you've got a gift, and then it's only that!

If people want to know the links are under the cut - that share feature is very, very handy! (Two of these I have already posted to Teaspoon, of course.)

DW, Press Gang, Blake's 7 etc )

If anyone prefers not to have their stocking filler archived there, let me know & I'll delete it.

Written after a discussion on the back of [livejournal.com profile] boro_girl's entry in the [livejournal.com profile] who_like_giants ficathon (See HERE) in which she suggested Clyde working for MI5.

Therefore this is hastily written nonsense, but hopefully will amuse.
