(I started writing this post a while ago as I was going to cover more things I've watched over the last couple of months, but a) this bit got overlong and b) [personal profile] liadt told me to post my thoughts on BBC HVIII now, and since doing what Liadt told me worked yesterday, that seemed like a plan.)

I've had a few answers for this meme done or semi-done for a while, so it's about time I posted one, and here goes - From [livejournal.com profile] femme_slash_fan: Favourite TV shows almost nobody knows about and should watch? (Seriously... I need more stuff)

Shows that nobody else knows about seems to sum up my entire fannish life of late (and always, really), but since [livejournal.com profile] femme_slash_fan specified "and should watch", that's a whole other thing. I have plenty of strange things I love - I don't necessarily think anyone else should have to watch them!

I avoided anything with its own (reasonably active) fandom, like Blake's 7, Sapphire & Steel and The Avengers (obviously, people have heard of them, if they're being fannish about them), and anything I thought was too inaccessible to count as something people should watch. What counts as something 'nobody's heard of' is so relative anyway. (Some of these things really don't count if you're British but do count if you live anywhere else. What can I do?). Of course, much of it assumes some willingness to watch studio-bound, video-taped old British TV of some kind, which I know not everyone is up for. If you are, or you're willing to try, these aren't bad places to start.

Anyway, here's a list! Not in any particular order, really. (I numbered them so I would know to stop if I went over ten, because that would be silly.)

Under here for the list!! )

30 icons made for the [community profile] hc_bingo square "hugs". I went back through all my screen caps looking for any iconable & expressive hugs and this was the result. Given the odd things I screen cap, it's a little motley, but on the other hand it covers a whole range of hugs from 1959-2013, which is quite nice in itself, after all. (Even if I may have used a pic to icon before, these are all new for the challenge.)

I have made a fanvid and I don't hate it! I made it for some of the random TV I've been watching lately, so it is obscure (but I don't care). Also, there is more dancing. Apparently this is a thing now and all my vids will have dancing in. Even if it's completely inappropriate...

(Um, yes. But hopefully it will be fairly amusing, anyway, even to people who aren't me.)

Just to show what I've been doing with my time this year, or something. You know me; this is not going to be entirely serious & I will endeavour not to be spoilery, even though this includes Blake. Plus, there will be a cute cat, I promise.

... And I don't know whether it makes it better or worse that the main part of this picspam only exists to justify the highly ridiculous mini-picspam at the end that I wound up with after making icons for [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo in August. Hmm...

Pics from Elizabeth R, Doctor Who, Midnight Is A Place, Sapphire & Steel, Blake's 7, Miss Marple & Press Gang. I managed to find an old DWM interview with him from 2003 and have used some bits from it that I thought were interesting/amusing.

Also, I realised at the beginning of this year that everything I'd seen him in, his characters didn't end well, so I went looking for things in which that didn't happen. So I've chalked up happy/unhappy endings (but not in a spoilery way). Indeed, a website I chanced on described him as a "Perennial player of gentle naive creatures with a delightful sing-song voice that invariably come to grief." (Although my main experience being DW, I found that he was just as likely to be the bad guy and come to grief deservedly as well.)

There is probably no excuse for this )

Part Two! (You'll find the exciting Part One here. Actually, it really is exciting. It has treason and beheadings and stuff.) Again, I've tried to avoid anything that would count as a proper spoiler rather than a well-known historical fact.

With finery and grotesquerie and action by HAVOC, slight piracy and a brave ending )

Picspam coda in which I am highly ridiculous over the lack of fanfic )

I've just watched this for the first time and I thought, since it is one of those things that is supposed (here in the UK, anyway) to be a seminal piece of television, that people might be interested in my thoughts. Also I have screencapped it and there will therefore be pictures, including familiar faces from Doctor Who. (It was made in 1970, so there were a few.)

You need only worry about spoilers if you don't know if Elizabeth I married someone or not, or who won in England vs the Spanish Armada and what became of Mary Queen of Scots etc. Or are worried about knowing who dies in the end. (Um. They all do...?)

This got very long, so I'm doing it in two installments.
In which people lose their heads, I fail to spot the Master, Count Grendel is quite lenient, Robert Hardy is difficult to get over, David Collings dies horribly and Glenda Jackson is magnificent )

And, wow, this is getting long. I shall break off here and return (once I have screencapped the final two eps) for the Spanish Armada with only one toy boat in sight, some unexpected action by HAVOC at the last minute, the COSTUMES and make-up (if you think I have neglected Elizabeth in my caps here, it is only because she will feature heavily then) and also my flippant response to the total absence of fanfic. (Yes, I know. Silly me.)
