Heroes of the Revolution fanfic. Sorry. I tried not to… but maybe not all that hard. I can't quite live without a bit of original fic of some kind here and there. I think this wound up as more fanfic than plain missing scenes (though it’s inevitably that, too). It was originally meant to be writing up the dialogue I had of Anna interviewing Charles Terrell, but then it grew into something else. (The characters involved are those ‘played’ by Gemma Jones, Alfred Burke and Julian Glover.)

I'm still working on the supporting cast and the episode guide, but I think the main cast and basic set-up has solidified pretty well, so here's part 1 of the first fruits of the isurrendered meme...

The prompt, from jjpor: It's the morning after the revolution before. The Evil Empire has fallen; the Plucky Rebels won against impossible odds, as Plucky Rebels tend to do. Now they've just got to deal with the messy aftermath and, you know, actually govern the place. Preferably without becoming like the regime they've just defeated.


HEROES OF THE REVOLUTION

A critically-acclaimed but long-forgotten (and doubtless studio-bound and dreary, shh, such things are awesome) 13 episode drama series from 1973/4 starring Gemma Jones, Alfred Burke, Julian Glover and Diane Keen.

Set in the near-future in an alternate (but not too different) reality, where a tyrannical regime has been in power in Britain for nearly three decades, a group of freedom fighters led by a man known as "Arran", finally defeat the dictator Hallam - and then a new battle begins, one where the lines are even less clear than before. It explores the ethics of power as a drama plays out between the victorious rebel leaders, the remnant of the old guard, and those who want to find more peaceful solutions for the future.

I finished it today. I would say, what do I do now? But the truth is I got a bit down last week and used up the last of my birthday money on more David Collings things. So I have that. But I hope my Mum and possibly my sister don't borrow the DVDs for too long. I feel they're going to be something I'll want to rewatch bits of frequently. (Also, the ending: ahaha. My secret head!canon ships all became real.)

Plus, and more on this later (and below). I noticed a distinct couple of plot similarities to Downton Abbey. And guess who was in S2? Julian Fellowes. LOL. (Not that I'm saying anything - as it's sort of based on a real story, and also an old and well-known series, it's fair game for reworking. And maybe it's a little in-jokey nod, too?)

There will be more at some point. Probably quite a few more. Lalla Ward was in the last few episodes and got to sing, dance, do a bad Yorkshire accent and wear lots of nice 1920s dresses. Also, more Gemma Jones. Yes.

(I am slightly worried about my new-old David Collings thing, though. It occurs to me to fear the worst: maybe they made him wear a wig?)

When I said the other day that part of my problems were my own fault, it was the making of this (largely) over the weekend that I meant. (And, don't worry, I'm not making another vid until I can be sensible again, which I thought I had trained myself to be. Also I encountered yet more technical issues. *joy*) Anyway, I killed my brain for a Completely Obscure Fanvid! Yay, me. And here it is:

With a warning for some mild blood & violence, and use of (what I assume to be) contemporary historical images.

If you have a moment to look at it, that would be very kind - it's not spoilery (I'm still only halfway through the series and anyway, it's history!) and I hope that it will either work in a) conveying the general overall sense of the vid, or b) at least be a pretty thing with dancing and movement and Patrick Stewart eating pancakes. (It is a fairly painless way to see some of Patrick Stewart being Lenin.) If not, well, at least I like it...

The first episode was entitled Death Waltz, and I immediately had this idea - luckily, as I found, I actually had a fitting piece of music by Tchaikovsky as well. Although I am probably a bad person for making even dramatised versions of Lenin and Trotsky sort of waltz.
