An icon batch I was waiting to post until I'd done the latest [community profile] retro_icontest challenge, and then nearly forgot about! Most of these have probably been posted here before, although not the [community profile] retro_icontest The7Days challenge to icon seven different angles from the last seven things you watched. The angles were above, below, left, right, back, front, artist's choice. Plus, all the icons I made recently to complete [community profile] 100fandomicons and [community profile] retro_icontest's Island Rumble round, making icons from the same two screencaps & some alts.

I started this on 27th Feb 2021 for [community profile] 100fandomicons and have finally completed it, after taking longer than anybody else ever has, which I suppose is one claim to fame. (You can see the fandoms if you hover over the icons.)

I'm still feeling rotten, but here's something to brighten up anyone's day - [community profile] festivids has gone live! All the vids are here.

I've only just started, but I squeaked to find one for Malory Towers, Emma Peel, and Ghosts (and the two of those I've watched as yet were A++) - and much more! Plus, I can spy plenty of things I know you lot are into.

([community profile] festivids is basically [community profile] yuletide for vids and always a complete joy to pretty much anyone who ever enjoys a good fanvid.)

Snowflake Challenge promotional banner featuring a cup of frothy coffee or hot chocolate on a plate with a piece of greenery and a cozy comforter with a sprig of baby’s breath. Text: Snowflake Challenge: 1-31 January.

Challenge #6: In your own space, rec at least three fanworks that you didn’t create.

I thought I'd follow up yesterday's post with recs for my very obscure fandoms, mostly written for me, because people are kind - but not always! So here we go:

The Shadow of the Tower
(Given the nature of the fandom, most of these can be read as straight historical RPF if you are interested in WotR/early Tudors.)

The Endris Night by ancarett
G, 2140 words. Elizabeth of York/Henry VII.) What is life at the court? Is it all plots and planning or is it something more? Elizabeth brings her own strengths as she prepares to marry the new king.

Not strictly marked with the canon, but written for me and ancarett clearly used the SotT portrayals of the two. This is a lovely, tentative beginning for a royal relationship.

Seven Sevens by [personal profile] allegoriesinmediasres
(Teen, 593 words. Catherine of Aragon, Arthur Tudor, Henry VIII, Margaret Tudor, Mary I, Henry VII, Elizabeth of York.) 1501. Seven sevens will command your life.

Clever ficlet taking one of Catherine of Aragon's scenes in the series as a starting point.

A Falcon at Stoke Field by [personal profile] kaffy_r
(Teen, 926 words. Lambert Simnel.) One name had been left behind, the next was never his to begin with. In the aftermath of Stoke Field, Lambert Simnel chooses a new identity.

Excellent look at Lambert Simnel in the aftermath of Stoke (& a great little episode tag for Ep4).

Into the Light by [personal profile] theseatheseatheopensea
(G, 1698 words. The Prisoner, Silver, Copper.) There is a method to what they do—to what they are. There is something about time—a prodigious mystery, an immensity, an unimaginable infinity, and he finds it again. He has always been here, after all. And he will be here again. And they will always be here, keeping time moving forward, safely, as it should. After the fire, Copper finds some answers.

Crossover with Sapphire & Steel. Eerie and beautiful timey-wimey look at the Prisoner's fate in episode 5, which may or may not be bound up with some "Elements."

Whose Bitter Tears by misura
(G, 906 words. John de la Pole Earl of Lincoln, Henry VII.) Lincoln receives an unexpected visitor in Dublin.

Lincoln says that Henry Tudor is in is very heart in the lead-up to Stoke, and here's a brilliantly in-tone look at one of the forms that feeling might take.

Fanart by [personal profile] liadt - the serious, a lovely drawing of Henry & Elizabeth from one of my stories and the glorious crack with bonus Time Travelling Spies (and anachronistic underpants).

Department S
One Cold Knight by [personal profile] swordznsorcery
(G, 5888 words. Annabelle Hurst, Stewart Sullivan, Jason King, Sir Curtis Seretse, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Liz Shaw.) For Fandom Stocking. The Department S gang team up with UNIT.

Crossover with Doctor Who. UNIT and Department S's work inevitably collides in this wonderful pitch-perfect casefic.

The Highgate Vampire by [personal profile] theseatheseatheopensea
(G, 1000 words. Annabelle Hurst, Jason King, Stewart Sullivan, Silver.) Highgate, North London. December 1969. Fragments from a very straight-forward case. (Or: a case told in 10 drabbles.)

Crossover with Sapphire & Steel. Brilliant drabble fic of a case that's even weirder than usual for Department S, plus important cravat envy.

King or Country by Timeless-A-Peel
(Teen, 6321 words. Jason King, Tara King, Martin King, John Steed.) 1972. Tara King receives an unexpected visit from a distant relative.

Crossover with The Avengers. More properly Jason King (the sequel serial), but still excellent - Jason King is, as it turns out, distantly related to Tara King - and every so often, they can find ways to help each other out.

(There are no works for The Power Game not by me, but I'll stop moaning now. ;-p)

Apparently.

But, look, look, I found a fab Avengers tribute! The lack of Avengers vids (given its iconic cult status, Emma Peel generally, visual quirkiness, and comparative prettiness in old Brit TV terms) is just baffling, and the only really good one I ever found got taken down by YouTube, but here AT LAST is another one:

The Avengers - Blank Space [John Steed & Emma Peel] from Hepburned on Vimeo.

Good news, too: they have made three others which are all v good, including an also brilliant Emma Peel tribute Short Skirt, Long Jacket (in case you need reminding that Diana Rigg is an actualfax goddess) and two Emma/Steed vids, one of which is unfairly sad (although the other is happy and quirky.

(Also relevant to people's interests round here: I haven't watched their other stuff yet, but on YT it seems to mainly consist of old film tributes and if they're all up to this kind of standard, they should be worth going through.)
thisbluespirit: (Dracula)
Some icons made for [community profile] iconthat, for Department S generally, and others spotted lurking on the hard-drive, including Doctor Who, Dracula (1968) & The Forsyte Saga. I like to save up and post in big sets, but that only means some things never get posted!

In the event of me seemingly getting worse at writing birthday ficlets, instead of better, I have for the past couple of years, taken the Unconventionalcourtship Generator and had a flash-fic writing session with it, tackling any prompts where I felt able to write both characters for [personal profile] john_amend_all's birthday. The end of June was particularly bad, so here it is, only slightly delayed.

One of the results that came up was clearly something I thought would amuse [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2, who also had a birthday around the same time, so, I'm calling that a belated present also. Plus some bonus summaries I failed at writing. (The whole package is like a bundle of those tacky plasticky things you get at the seaside, but I had fun.) I did this on different days, before and during my family's visit, so it all got a bit out of hand. But still mostly not even shippy. /o\

I'm back! I'm very tired, so comments and posts will wait/be erratic until I'm not. In the meantime, I'm trying to get some Yuletide recs up before Reveal. I carefully bookmarked on AO3 as I read while away, so hopefully this should be a quiet, simple thing to do?

It's a fairly random first pass of the archive. I tend to read shorter fics, and also have a terrible habit (faced with the chocolate box that is Yuletide) of reading only one or two fics out of a fandom with several in it before skipping to the next shiny thing, but still, an overview of some things I've particularly enjoyed so far, in the hopes that others might enjoy them too:

19 Recs in Archer's Goon, The Avengers, Chalet School, Georgette Heyer (Devil's Cub, False Colours, Frederica), Dracula, Fionavar Tapestry, Forsyte Saga, The Highwayman, Honeysuckle Cottage, I Capture the Castle, Ngaio Marsh, Indiana Jones, Jane Eyre, Jane the Virgin, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, and Maid Marian )

More to come later today! (Hopefully! But definitely including my shiny Madness Treat when it does. \o/)

A bunch of resulting ficlets from the previous meme. I was going to start posting them as replies in the comments and then realised that'd slowly be giving the list away.

So, consider the previous post closed now, and here goes!

(I didn't stick to the word limit at all, I'm afraid. I was going to do demi-drabbles again, and then, a couple of hundred words later, decided I wasn't. Still, those meme police never have turned up yet.)

4 x Strange meetings )

More to come... sometime. ;-)

I have been a bit AWOL, but for reasons and also now I have a vid! And, all right, so it is a vid of James Maxwell, BUT it is totally a vid containing cute children and animals, paper aeroplanes, stuffed toys, random barometers, wilful destruction of property, Emma Peel kicking ass, vampires, tea and coffee drinking, two Henry VIIs, rocks, Nazis, space ships, and an actual kitchen sink. Also epic hand-holding (but not anything like as much as there could have been).

Cut for Embed )

And, at some point, I will catch up with other stuff a bit. (♥)
thisbluespirit: (b7 - deva)
The list!

1. Adam Adamant
2. Emma Peel (The Avengers)
3. Charley Pollard (DW)
4. Eighth Doctor (DW)
5. Soolin (B7)
6. Silver (S&S)
7. Harry Pearce (Spooks)
8. Cora Mills (OUaT)
9. Clara Oswald (DW)
10. Servalan (B7)
11. Vila Restal
12. Esme Weatherwax (Discworld)
13. Arnold Rimmer (Red Dwarf)
14. Jane Marple
15. Harry Sullivan (DW)

The shenanigans! )

As promised!

These are a tiny handful from a first and rather erratic sweep of the archive. There will be more - when I finally make it through the whole alphabet! (As ever, I had to stick to mostly short things, although there is - amazingly - a 30,000 S&S fic featuring original Elements which I will have to go and print off, because... amazing.) There are more fics for many of these fandoms! There are whole novels and things in there... *waves hands in incoherent admiration of the 2014 Yuletide Collection*

17 recs in Archer's Goon, The Avengers, Blackadder, Blake's 7, Bleak Expectations, Chalet School, Chronicles of Prydain, Doctor Who (BFAs), Curse of Fatal Death, The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot, Drop the Dead Donkey, Fire & Hemlock, Hamlet, Henry IV, and Sapphire & Steel )
thisbluespirit: (s&s - ot3)
I realised recently that I obviously had never picspammed this episode of The Avengers, which I watched early this year. I don't know how eager you all are to see James Maxwell in a silly costume, but there is also Emma Peel. No excuse is needed for picspams involving Diana Rigg as Emma Peel, obviously. Her awesome is reason enough in itself.

This picspam comes courtesy of the wonderful Liadtbunny, a terrible Enabler of Old TV-watching. (Thanks, Liadt, for these 12 episodes of The Avengers, for Enemy at the Door - and therefore Public Eye - and even for Children of the Damned! Everyone else: okay, you can blame her for all my obsessions, basically. ;-p)

I did actually make some icons for NaArMaMo that weren't from Enemy at the Door. Here are the rest (barring a few from Ripper Street that I hope to make a full set out of sometime) - mini sets on a theme for each day, in most cases.

And, as I said, I also made some things for people:

Falling From A Cloud for [personal profile] akashasheiress (Doctor Who, Ben Jackson/Polly Wright, 346 words. Also a 500 prompts ficlet.)

9 Avengers Icons for [personal profile] glinda (Emma Peel, John Steed.) (Liadt sent me some Avengers! I have only watched 1 episode, but once I've watched more, more icons will happen because it was heaps of fun to play with.)

The Gods Walk Among Us for [personal profile] kaffy_r (Doctor Who, Ian & Barbara, Drabble.)

Dance of A Lifetime for [personal profile] azarsuerte (Doctor Who, Five/Clara, 169 words. One of the random drabbles - the poetry line was "and the last stroke of midnight dies").

13 Silmarillion icons for [personal profile] moetushie (Mostly from Ted Naismith images.)

13 The Good Life icons for [personal profile] ozqueen (Tom, Barbara, Margo & Jerry and all combinations thereof.)

Radical Actions for [personal profile] liadt (Er. The Fight Against Slavery, Wilberforce/Pitt cake!fic drabble. Yes. /o\)

The Man Who Cried Lion for eve11 (Doctor Who, Six, Evelyn, 329 words. Poetry line: rushed out onto the fire escape screaming Lion! Lion!)

some lovely perilous thing for [personal profile] ein_papier (Once Upon A Time, Belle/Rumplestiltskin, Drabble. Poetry line as the title "some lovely perilous thing".)

... that was more than it seemed like at the time. :-)

(Obviously, icons made as gifts are not for snagging unless the recipient is okay with that.)

Okay, this proved to be fun. Here are the new things I tried:

From [personal profile] seriesfive:

Slippery (1823 words) by FayJay
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Good Omens
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Aziraphale/Crowley - Relationship
Characters: Crowley, Aziraphale
Summary:

in which Crowley and Aziraphale eat sushi.

I have read Good Omens, but probably about twenty years ago and my memory of it is very vague. This however, was lovely. And it was even m/m slash (not usually my first choice as to type of pairing). But basically, what it says except also beautifully written, subtle and amusing (as something from this fandom should be). Brilliant!

[personal profile] persiflage_1 suggested one of her recent Bond fics:

This Shall Be My Dancing Day (1305 words) by Persiflage
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: James Bond (Movies), James Bond (Craig movies)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: James Bond/M
Characters: James Bond, Female M (James Bond), Original Characters
Series: Part 14 of Bondkink Fics
Summary:

Bond and M are at a masquerade ball...

My knowledge of Bond is mainly from watching the Roger Moore films with my Dad when I was young, so not something I tend to seek out fanworks for! However, this is a great little scenario with lots of nicely done details, I could hear the two actors and very much enjoyed it. ♥

[personal profile] sallymn sent me to these Get Smart vids. I have no idea what these are and also I don't usually watch vids if I have to download them first, so two new things in one. It was pretty funny and clever, although I confess I did feel as though I'd have appreciated it more if I knew something about what I was watching. But, yes, still enjoyable even for a baffled bystander.

[profile] llywela13 gave me a short Firefly fic: The B-Team, which was indeed, cute and accessible, with a few explosions and things. (I haven't seen Firefly, but I have watched Serenity and read quite a few DW crossovers, so I could pick things up fairly easily anyway. But good fun, thanks.)

[personal profile] liadt gave me two Avengers fanvids - Keeping Things Friendly and Needed: One Pair of Boots, Preferably Kinky which were a lot of fun and nicely done. (I think I would say that the actors singing the novelty song should definitely not give up the day-job, but that's a given, really. But, yes, great fun. I really do want to watch The Avengers.) I think, overall, I liked the Kinky Boots one best, but they were both v entertaining.

[personal profile] seriesfive sneaked back with a second rec just in time:

After the Fall (852 words) by thedevilchicken
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Ben-Hur (1959)
Rating: Mature
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Judah (Ben-Hur), Messala (Ben-Hur)

(More m/m slash, but not explicit despite the rating.) Anyway, this was well-written and I liked it. It's a bit random out of context sometimes, not sure what else to say. But well done, I liked reading it.

(The other two recs were for fics that were over 2k - my definition of "very short" really is very short at the moment, sorry, but they look good, so I'll come back to them later on when I have some more brain.) Thank you, everyone! :-)
