I'm a little better, but overtired again tonight, and wanting to make a positive post, so:

1. Whumptober 2024's prompts are out! (For anyone, like me, also signed up to [community profile] lyricaltitles, some of them come with song lyrics attached... could be handy for combining both challenges, heh.)

2. Also courtesy of tumblr, pic of Jeremy Northam as Berowne in the 1993 RSC Love's Labours Lost )

2a. Talking of him singing, I don't actually have another British Newspaper Archive sub currently, but a little while ago, I idly put a Jeremy Northam search in to see if the results would help sort out exactly what he was doing in the theatre early in his career. I did not expect to get a bunch of little preview paragraphs c.1987 where he was apparently in a thing playing the piano while all the local reviewers went, "He looks just like Ivor Novello!" You don't say. XD (The Novello resemblance was probably deliberate, as the garbled previews suggest that the other characters were also made up to look like 30s stars for that particular production of Rough Crossing by Tom Stoppard, but still. It was apparently inevitable at some point. Clearly I need to repeat this search whenever I do actually have access, but that was so unexpected, it made me laugh.)

Anyway, am off to hopefully do fictional typing for a few minutes or so before bed. ♥

As I mentioned the other day, [community profile] no_true_pair posted the prompts for this round, and I'll share mine under the cut, because there are some fun ones. Currently feeling not great yet again, but who knows? Writing could happen before the posting begins in September.

(If you want to sign up, there's still plenty of time - just don't look at the prompt post first. They're very laid back.)

Cut for length and also not to spoiler prompts )

Has anyone else signed up? Did you get some fun ones?

There seem to be lots of things going in February. I'm not sure if I'll be able to join in any as Feb seems likely to not be the best month for being fannish for me, but I've linked to all of them I can remember - maybe some of you will be able to have fun with them.

1. [community profile] small_fandoms drabblethon is running again.

2. Fannish 50 challenge is running again, but by someone else, I think.

3. [community profile] halfamoon, focusing on female characters, runs for the first half of the month and the daily themes are here (though you don't have to use them).

4. [personal profile] corvidology wants people to post about Stuff they Love here

5. And there's febuwhump on tumblr with some fun prompts!

/collapses under the weight of just the links. ;-p

thisbluespirit: (writing)
[personal profile] corvidology very wisely suggested I take the plunge this time and sign up for [community profile] no_true_pair, which was obviously right, because what it is, is basically the 15 Characters meme except you're expected to write at least some of the resulting prompts. I mean, clearly, I should have done this the second I saw it crop up at [community profile] fandomcalendar, but, idk, it's been a weird year or so...

I signed up with this assorted list:

1. Clara Oswald
2. Copper (S&S)
3. Jenkins (The Librarians)
4. Alice Jones (OUaT)
5. Charley Pollard
6. Sixth Doctor
7. Annabelle Hurst (Dept S)
8. The Brigadier

I hadn't realised quite how many and how thorough the prompts would be, and I might next time sign up with two lists (a crossover one and an in-fandom one, because you can do that too, apparently), but still I do love the results and at least some of them will hopefully become actual ficlets! You're supposed to post them on the given day for that prompt (Sept 1-28 in this case), but there's also no pressure and no penalties if you fall out of a round.

If any of you would like to sign up, probably best not to click on the cut until you've drawn up your list! (I have swapped the numbers for the characters, but it'll still give you an idea of the questions (and the matching if you're paying attention).

Anyway, I think it might also appeal to some of you as well, and that would be even more fun. <3 (I made a crossover list, but most people were single-fandom, so that's just me being me.)

And then it gave me this pretty delightful set of prompts and I am gleeful )

ETA: Oh. Also hello, sorry for vanishing again. I feel at this point "it was summer, i was very ill" doesn't even need saying. ♥
thisbluespirit: (james maxwell 2)
For [community profile] snowflake_challenge - Challenge #6: In your own space, make a list — anything between one and ten things is a sweet spot, but don't feel constrained by that! - of things that you wish existed in fandom or elsewhere, or that you'd like someone to make for you.

I mainly want more anything for or anyone into my ridiculous obscure old telly fandoms, especially the ones with James Maxwell in, but that is too unreasonable to ask.

So:

1. I have a Dear Author tag which contains all my previous exchange letters and therefore details of Things I Like, why, and in what ways I would like All the Fic. Especially if it has James Maxwell in, obviously or by stealth. :-D (Other things are good! I want All The Things when I'm not at my most tired.)

2. Comments on my fic. If I have Thoughts on things, that tends to become fic and because I am actually a lot more shy than I may appear while babbling on the internet, I have always used that as my prime way into talking to people and making friends, and given my shaky concentration, I'm bad at doing it from the other way round (although I hope to improve again soon).

But, funnily, I was about to post this, so I shall include it! I was going back through all my editions of the 15 Characters Meme (and the 12 Characters thing) and noting down things that really should exist, whether as a begging list or a reminder to self, I cannot say, but I think, given this topic, it should go right here! So:

3. All these things should totally exist somewhere, right?

a. The Master goes to Granny Weatherwax's used vehicle lot to purchase a vehicle. Long John Silver offers unsolicited advice about it.

b. Ace, Sapphire, and Cally spend the night in a haunted house.

c. Violet Crawley is made supreme ruler of the globe.

d. Rupert Giles & Violet Crawley get thrown back in time to 1066 in a freak accident. The fate of England rests on the shoulders of one or both of them.

e. Zen & Holly are stuck in a museum after closing hours (presumably ancient exhibits in a technology museum, long forgotten...)

f. Harry Pearce, Esme Weatherwax, and Jane Marple are alone in a house/other building of your choice. It is a dark and stormy night. There is a thunderous knock on the door followed by the sound of feet running away. When they open the door, there is a baby in a basket, and voila, one tiny child has three of the best and scariest godparents ever. Do not mess with them.

g. Charley Pollard and Clara Oswald go into business together

h. Ros Myers is catapulted into another dimension where they meet the good/evil mirror version of their friends. (With bonus debate as to whether this would therefore be the mirror dimension where everyone was fluffy and into kittens and then Ros would have to kill them all, or if Ruth would be a megalomaniac she needed to defeat.)

i. A Bill Potts/Kara Danvers College AU where Bill is teaching physics and passing on the wonders of the universe, Sam Vimes is teaching a criminology course that is turning out to be way more hands on and practical than the university was up for, Kara is teaching a journalism course and is really nervous about it and her first few lectures do not go well, since they involve public speaking. She keeps winding up in Bill's study for biscuits and sympathy. Bill is very helpful and is developing a serious crush. (It'd be adorable only with bonus Vimes. What's not to like?)

j. The Sixth Doctor and Zelena Mills have to fake a relationship.

k. Kara Danvers/Obi Wan-Kenobi, and/or this impressively pretty, explosive and effective sedoretu comprised of Dayna Mellanby & Kara Danvers, Kara Danvers/Bill Potts, Kara Danvers/Obi-Wan Kenobi, Dayna Mellanby/Bill Potts and Dayna Mellanby/Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Bill Potts & Obi-Wan Kenobi. It would involve a lot of handwaving, but is that not what fic is for?

l. Kara Danvers and the Sixth Doctor are entered in the Great British Bake-Off. (Optional: Orac is a guest judge and Servalan is trying to sabotage the whole thing.)

m. The Twelfth Doctor and Cora Mills are now buddy cops.

n. Twelve and Henry VII are running a coffee shop that lives off the attraction of Twelve's terrible customer service and Henry's excellent book-keeping. (I don't know what kind of AU it is, but I'd read it.)

(I'd like to point out that I did write the one where Donna Moss got locked in the wine cellar with Eight and One and the one where Henry VII and Ace went on a (kind of date; stuff blew up anyway), and more or less the Jenkins and Twelve find a stray kitten, if you substute 'baby winged horse' for kitten, so I have done my part, or some of it, anyway...)

Because you cannot rummage around a lot of prompt comms and suchlike without emerging with a new prompt table or bingo card. [community profile] 100_women is an old one and the mod seems to have gone AWOL, but sign-ups and claims are not needed, and other people are still posting their fills, so why not? I think it might complement [community profile] 100fandoms nicely and make up for that time I sadly failed on [community profile] ladiesbingo despite all the things I wanted to write. (The trouble with that was that the moment a challenge like that gets really specific I start wanting to write all the things I'm not allowed. What d'you mean I can't have her father in it if I want him? ;-p)

Cut for Prompt Table of 100 Prompts )

They have sets of 50 or 10 at a time, or even mix and match to make your own, but I liked the prompts on the original big table the best, so here I am.
thisbluespirit: (s&s - silver)
So, having finally typed up all of When the Lights Go Out (typed up, not edited, though & I still must do Remix next), I thought I would return to my very old list of 100 Element Prompts as a reward but it also seemed like much more fun to get a new set from the new version of the Genremixer, so counted out the no. I hadn't written (probably erroneously, and there were more done in rough that never got typed up).

Anyway, I don't know if I will write many or any, but I had forgotten just how much brilliant it is putting random Elements in the Genremixer. I am a ridiculous person and the results bring GREAT JOY to my heart. Please feel free to admire, make suggestions, or just steal them, I don't mind.

(Non-canonical Elements are either ones I've written before, or ones I found on another list from way back that I was clearly contemplating next. As I am sure I had good reasons for my choices, I threw some of them in, pending investigation in my old notes, bookmarks and print-outs for what I was thinking. If I can't work out what on earth I was thinking, I can always replace those ones.)

Cut for list of trope prompts for S&S to kill )

I laughed the hardest at no. 28 though. And now I must go and rest and then contemplate Remix and important things that must be done, talking of which, damn, I forgot to phone the doctor's while I did this.

Found on tumblr & it looked like a fun seasonal meme. (I was going to link to the original, but tumblr wouldn't let me. *thumps tumblr to no avail*)

Give me a number plus a ship and I’ll write you a spooky ficlet.

(As ever with these things, any fandom is fair game - I'll just say if I don't know or can't do it. If you don't want a ship, use an & rather than a / between your characters. My tags/ profile should give most of the things I know.)

1. Demons
2. Fog
3. Ghosts
4. Moon
5. Necromancers
6. Possession
7. Vampires
8. Haunted house
9. Cemetery
10. Ritual
11. Bonfire
12. Curse
13. Spirits
14. Werewolves
15. Alone
16. Disappearance
17. Mystery
18. Disguises
19. Zombies
20. Nightmares
21. Abandoned location
22. Noises
thisbluespirit: (Default)
I decided I would make another claim at [community profile] who_allsorts | [livejournal.com profile] dw_allsorts for the theme "Historical" and I have finally chosen my table, so all I have to do is fill one with a fanwork by 3 May (or else I might have to tell myself off). I like it, anyway*:

#01 – Summer still holds on #02 – Visiting the graces #03 – This cosmic show
#04 – You cannot find the centre #05 – In the cold, glittering morning #06 – Another missing person
#07 – A sudden death #08 – Forgetting who I am #09 – Night descending

* I know I made it up, so I shouldn't say that, but it was about 3 years ago, and it was random, so it doesn't feel like it.
thisbluespirit: (Default)
I think it's fair to say I'm pretty depressed right now & it is about time to cease the wallowing in despair and things, really. Shall we try a meme?

Give me a number and a pairing & I'll write a drabble or ficlet!

1. glad you came
2. team
3. don't lie
4. i'm coming home
5. story of my life
6. falling down
7. clarity
8. counting stars
9. wake me up
10. safe and sound
11. lose yourself
12. in the sun
13. the monster
14. burn
15. sweet nothing
16. i'm with you
17. we believe
18. thanks for the memories
19. anything could happen
20. little talks
21. the pretender
22. by the way
23. sanctuary
24. paradise
25. where is my mind

(Any two characters will do if you don't want a pairing, just use an '&'. Not that if you apply a '/' romance will necessarily happen, because this is me. But I do try. Any fandom you think I know is fine. I shall just say if you come up with anything I don't know or really can't do.)
thisbluespirit: (I Capture - writing)
Let me do something that isn't rambling about old TV!

It's been a while and I need to print off the full list again, for reasons, so... if anyone would like to leave any more prompts (please please!!) in the 500 Prompts meme you're welcome, doubly so if you weren't around when I first offered or you only left one or two... but, hey, all prompts are good!

The instructions are on the original post, but basically it is a very long list of prompts. You choose one/two/many and attach a character/pairing/crossover meeting etc. & at some point in the dim and distant future when you have forgotten all about it, I write a ficlet. Or possibly a drabble or a 6000+ word fic, depending. I make no promises! (One thing I have noticed is that I do seem to respond more to prompts with more than one character.) And anything's fair game - any fandom I've mentioned or is in my profile/tags. If I can't do something, I'll just say.

(In the last year and a few odd months, I think I've done nearly 30, so... fic does happen.)

Prompts = ♥
thisbluespirit: (Default)
Writing memes have been pleasingly plentiful of late, and I picked up this one from [livejournal.com profile] sallymn by way [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2 who adapted it sensibly and I've tweaked it again for my own evil purposes:

Reply to this post by giving me [a] character[s]/pairing from one of my fandoms and one word/short quote; and I'll write you a ficlet.

I don't know how quickly I might write a ficlet. I am very happy with my weird S&S prompts, but that tells me two things: a) prompt ficlets really are the way to go right now and b) something other than S&S to turn to might be a relief for everybody! (And as I said, a lot of my other prompts went inconveniently long. My brain; it refuses to acknowledge its actual limits.)

As usual with these things, anything I've mentioned anywhere is fair game. I'll let you know if you really do pick something impossible.
thisbluespirit: (pg - Lynda writing)
And now, the end of the housework meme! (Phew. That was a long meme.)

3. Press Gang – Lynda Day/Spike Thomson: getting an oil change for the car. From [livejournal.com profile] lolmac (All ages, 540 words) Who specified there was to be no vehicle substitution. I managed this, even though I’m pretty sure neither of the characters would have a valid UK driving license, let alone a car.

Lynda, you can't drive )

14. Spooks – Ruth/Harry: hoovering the curtains. From [livejournal.com profile] daibhid_c

I tried writing this, and I worked out that they were hoovering the curtains (probably in a safe house) as an excuse to keep an eye on what was happening outside, and that it was Ruth’s idea. But I couldn’t come up with anything non-dull beyond that. The best I managed was a conversation about hoovering the curtains vs washing them, and that point I decided it was better for everyone's sakes if I didn't attempt actually writing it. (Sorry. I think maybe I need to rewatch some Spooks, when I can. Ruth and Harry are kind of elusive.)

19. Doctor Who – Ben Jackson/Polly Wright: changing nappies. (599 words) From [livejournal.com profile] belantana (Who said that the baby didn’t have to be theirs, in fact, the unlikelier, the better. So, it was pretty unlikely. It's not terribly good, though, really, this one, but meme!fic. And I have prompts now. Prompts are cool.)

Left holding the baby )
thisbluespirit: (s&s - silver)
Because I have one. By accident, but I do. Someone in the last round of [livejournal.com profile] fan_flashworks invented this nice little random generator tool - you type in characters and it supplies combinations and prompts using fanfic cliches or genres. (I stuck to cliches; you know how I like going at cliches from unexpected angles.)

I was playing round with it (as I do when I'm bored), mostly trying my 1980s UNIT peoples. (They are not good with fanfic cliches. Either I've already used them, or they just wouldn't go for it. Or for random pairings.) And then, idly, I typed in a lot of random 'Elements'. And... I fell in love with the results. I mean, utterly in love. I don't know why.

So, now I have an epic prompt list that I am going to play with, which is probably not going to be much fun for anyone else, but for at least this week, I love the idea. And it's me, so there's no deadlines, no words limits, I can do 50 words, drabbles, three sentences, ficlets, or get carried away when I'm able. And I can have ALL THE ELEMENTS. Which, if anyone remembers me rambling about being fannish about the periodic table, was mostly what I wanted all along.

(I still have my lovely post full of prompts, but I got stuck on four at once, which was off-putting. I'll go back to those, though - but I need something to make me write small things, and this hopefully will work.) I don't know why I need excuses and prompts to write the things I want to write... but I do.

100 Element & Fanfic cliche Prompts )
Anyway, here for my own reference, but feel free to point out if you like the look of any of them, and maybe I'll try for those first. Since it is a ridiculously epic list, also feel free to snaffle any. (More S&S fic of any kind is a good thing; steal my crazy prompts, please, why not? I'm not really going to manage 100 prompts, am I?)

The thing was amusingly averse to pairing Sapphire & Steel though. After realising it hadn't given me one prompt for them, I cut it down to just Sapphire, Steel and Silver. Still no good. I had to have only Sapphire and Steel before it'd grudgingly give me some. (So those prompts are all at the end.) Some of them, I'd like to add, I kept for pure crackiness, although I'm not entirely sure I can cope with crack!fic in this fandom. (Or have I already written some? Knowing me I probably have.) Anyway, it will be more constructive than moping and playing with screencaps, which is mostly what I seem to do when I'm tired and bored lately.

ETA: And I have (barring editing and the tail end of one) finished the housework meme, and I did type up a 1980s UNIT snippet (which I planned to do in Jan; that needs editing, too.) So, that makes this better, obviously. (Er. Expect some fic soon?)
thisbluespirit: (Five)
Belatedly, and against my better judgement, I've decided to run with this meme, taken from both [personal profile] clocketpatchand [livejournal.com profile] jjpor. (After all, I did make requests of both of them...)

Give me two characters from different fandoms you know I'm familiar with, and I'll give you a dialogue happening between the two of them. Without justifying how the crossover would work, how their worlds clashed or how they could even meet each other. Just a silly crossover conversation with no backstory, for fun.

For something like this, I'm willing to do almost anything I've seen/read reasonably often or at least retain some definite memory of. (It's a long story, but I've attempted more insane things elsewhere, for characters I know NOTHING about... And got away with it, too. *blushes*)

So, here goes, but anything I've mentioned here before is fair game.

Potential crossovers under the cut )
I think that's more than enough bizarre things, isn't it? Let's hope it hasn't scared everyone away!!!

*wonders if I will regret this*
