[personal profile] el_staplador requested Meet Me at Midnight for the Fic Commentary Meme.

This was a recent one, written to finish off one of my remaining [community profile] who_allsorts prompts on my Fourth Doctor claim, the prompt being, "I will go alone," which, in conjunction with Four, made me think of the line from Androids of Tara where the Doctor says, "They always want you to go alone when you're walking into a trap, have you noticed that?" So I thought it could be fun to play with that being the Doctor's voice of experience speaking there.

I picked the prompt set out a couple of years ago now, and the vague idea had been lurking for a while, and then suddenly the full idea just struck me, and I wrote it and it was a lot of fun. I do have my original notebook version, but it didn't see a lot of changes, overall.

Each segment was, hopefully (and judging by comments, fairly successfully), a typical scene with each Team TARDIS of Four's era. (Well, barring Four, Romana & Adric, but the E-Space trilogy is still on my to-watch pile.)

For the Fic Commentary Meme, [personal profile] sovay asked for there was a darkness, call it solitude.

This was written back in 2012 after re-reading Joan Aiken's Midnight Is A Place, no doubt brought on by watching the 1970s ITV adaptation, but that isn't a patch on the book, even if it does have David Collings in.

It was a while ago, and I can't find the original version in my notebook, either, so I'm not sure how much I can remember at this distance, but it was a fic I had to write and felt pleased with, despite its obscurity.* (I don't know what use my notebooks are sometimes. This one has my Yuletide 2011 fic in and later my Yuletide 2012 fic, so you would think that something written in spring 2012 would be in it, but no. Also that entire notebook is almost wall to wall S&S. 0_o)

For [personal profile] a_phoenixdragon in the Fic Commentary Meme, who asked for a commentary on Unrelated (The Loop the Loop to Affinity Remix)

This was a Remix fic, so a lot of it is in reaction to the original fic, in this case [personal profile] scripsi's Sliding Down the Razorblades of Life and other parts of her River/Master series. Doing a Remix is always a slightly different process to other writing - you're responding to someone else's work, so my first move is to skim through my assigned remixee's work to see what jumps out at me. And then, I don't know, I read and read that until something comes. I hesitated over this because to remix something that was part of a series possibly made things a little more complicated than was wise.

For [personal profile] eve11 in the Fic Commentary Meme, this segment of Prospero's Daughter, a fic for Big Finish's Unbound series of AU Doctors (published to celebrate DW's 40th anniversary in 2003). This one was for Full Fathom Five, with the AU in that audio being essentially, what if the Doctor went dark? (With the Doctor in question being played by David Collings, so clearly it was a strange and explicable thing that I found myself listening to it, obv.).

I also have a bit of an odd relationship with the fic, because it was the first thing I wrote properly after relapsing with the ME in Jan 2011, and it left me with no mental concentration for a month afterwards, which was pretty terrifying. I thought I'd never write again, and even if it was probably only a month or two later I was writing a tiny tiny Sapphire & Steel ficlet, it felt like a lot longer, and it still took me another year before I could manage that many words again, and I panicked about whether or not it was any good afterwards. It became a Fic of Doom.*

For the Fic Commentary Meme (still open if anyone wants me to talk a lot (or not) about a snippet of my fic), [personal profile] arcanetrivia asked for commentary on Timey Wimey Antics, a found poem (of sorts), made from AO3 tags from the Doctor Who fandom back in 2013.

Timey Wimey Antics )

Also, I couldn't find my original of this, but I did find my Tag Wrangler found Tag poem. I'm not sure why it was abandoned & left unfinished; I probably was feeling stupid having made another terrible mistake while wrangling and buried it, but it is here. It is fairly accurate about tag-wrangling:

Memed from [personal profile] el_staplador: Pick any story I've written, or, in the case of my longer, chaptered works, any chapter from any story I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you the equivalent of a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you’d expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

My fic is here. ETA: and here for the origfic stuff. (Mostly runaway tales.)

Not that I can guarantee I can remember anything I was thinking when I was writing stuff, and I feel puns are unlikely. (I can think of about 2 puns in total in all my fic, although it is true I can't remember stuff.)

The other week, when I was feeling a bit too down to write anything at all sensible, I distracted myself with this. And since people liked the other character commentaries, I thought I may as well post it. Although I am embarrassed and it shouldn't happen again. It's just Six, you see, you know what's like...

And I must stop this. I really need to get on top of my family history instead. (Did you know I have a direct ancestor called John Benton, who was a soldier? But not a Sergeant.)

For [livejournal.com profile] ghost2, a fic commentary on my Seven, Mel and Ray Delta epilogue, Postcards From Wales. Due to the nature of the 'story', there are genuinely no spoilers below.

Fic commentary for Five Times Liz Shaw and the Brigadier Saved the World. Spoilers for the fic (should anyone care) and some mild spoilers for Season 7 episodes. And I really, really can't do sensible non-character commentary this afternoon. Mind you, I really think this story says what I wanted to say well enough, for a wonder. Fic commentary for UNIT: Transition. Spoilers for the story and also for Image of the Fendahl. Requested by [livejournal.com profile] jjpor.

I started writing this sensibly last night and then John posted the suggestion of character commentaries and being used to writing for This Time Round, I’d already been having hard work squashing, and well, this is what happened (probably in a back room somewhere in the Round):

Fic commentary for First Year Camp. Spoilers for the story itself, but nothing else that I can think of. Requested by [livejournal.com profile] john_elliott.
