I started this on 27th Feb 2021 for [community profile] 100fandomicons and have finally completed it, after taking longer than anybody else ever has, which I suppose is one claim to fame. (You can see the fandoms if you hover over the icons.)

Some more icons! Mostly very random things for [community profile] 100fandomicons, which seemed a useful way to continue to try and get the hang of the new editor, plus some more Doctor Who and Bleak Expectations.

Hello hello I have been feeling rotten again for really the past two weeks. So much for Whumptober! I was whumped, not the characters. Alas. Still, I hope soon I can at least edit the second one I managed before that.

So, sorry, I'm not keeping up again. I begin to wonder if I ever will. :-/

Anyrate, in the meantime, Remix Revival wrapped up and revealed authors yesterday, and I wrote this, from the original version by [personal profile] still_lycoris. I was planning to remix one of their excellent short B7 ficlets but No! They had written this gem and I had no choice but to play with it.

Remants of an Unlife (The Magellan & Creek (Deceased) Remix) (2332 words) by thisbluespirit
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Jonathan Creek (TV)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Major Character Death
Relationships: Jonathan Creek/Maddy Magellan
Characters: Jonathan Creek, Maddy Magellan, Joey Ross, Carla Borrego, Adam Klaus
Additional Tags: Remix, Ghosts, Alternate Universe, practically a randall & hopkirk au, but not strictly, otherwise jonathan would have to wear a white duffel coat
Summary: When you spend your life going round disproving the paranormal, the last thing you want to do is end up as a ghost. Jonathan isn't exactly sure his friends are helping, either.

It was a looser remix than I've done before in some ways, and it was hard to show that it was AU (i.e. now everything was operating by Randall & Hopkirk rules rather than as in the original), and I'm not sure I succeeded totally in making that clear. But in all other ways, I think it turned out pretty entertaining (& its remixee liked it anyway).

As usual, some lines are taken from the original fic.

I realised that I never did any [community profile] yuletide recs this year, because I felt too unwell and also I never went back for a proper second go-round. So, I thought I would get on and at least rec the handful I collected, instead of moaning at the internet.

12 recs in The Box of Delights, Cadfael, The Dean's Watch, Georgette Heyer, Jonathan Creek, Matilda, Sapphire & Steel & UK Cities )

[personal profile] romanajo123 asked for Lines of dialogue you've written.

Which is a great question - and really hard to do! But in the end I came up with - probably fairly randomly - these, although I left it at six at the end. (Maths has never been my strong point.)

1. “Spike,” says Lynda, reaching him. “I still think you’re a self-righteous, low-down, narcissistic rat who was, incidentally, completely wrong about that article earlier – and, by the way, you don’t spell hypocrite as if it involves an actual hippo – but since you’re here, will you do something for me?”

“That depends, boss. That nice officer down at the station said we’d be having words if I helped you bury another body in the Gazette grounds. He said it might start looking suspicious.”
Always a Wolf Maybe including fairly standard for Spike and Lynda dialogue is just cheating, though? This is probably the one that shouldn't be counted.

2. “Oh, what an interesting thought,” said the Doctor. “Do my clothes own to a faith, or a philosophy? I must ask them next time I’m doing the laundry.” from All the Hounds of Hell

3. “What if a clown comes to murder me in the night?”

“Then at least he won’t bother me.”
from Persistence in Porcelain

4. “I have every right,” snarled the Doctor, in his ear. “And you will have a jelly baby, because that’s what your sort do, isn’t it?” He pressed the sweet into his hand, the boy taking it in a daze. He resumed his more usual tones: “You take the soft, and the innocent, the weak, and the ones that are green-coloured and different and you bite their heads off, and swallow them whole. Go on. Show me. This is something you’ll want to remember.” from Full Fathom Five (I worried about that line a lot, but [personal profile] eve11 liked it, and I trust their judgement a lot more than mine! I think they're probably right.)

5. “You must stop this at once, reverend! You see, this man is already married. In fact, he’s had several wives and he’s previously served a sentence for bigamy, after he deceived my poor mother. Goodness knows how many others there may have been. Isn’t that right, Mr John Smith?”

The Doctor marched towards the interloper. “Curses, I believe I’ve been foiled again. Yes, it’s true, vicar: I’m nothing but a shameless wretch who goes round entrapping unfortunate females into marriage and then running off with their worldly goods, trampling their hearts into the ground as I go. And I’m not in the least bit sorry, either.”
Charley & Eight in Ten Times the Doctor (Almost) Got Hitched (Although how well it works if you don't know Eight and Charley is probably debatable.)

and one more for luck:

“Ridiculous?” said Romana. “You walked out onto a space ship and got married to a Marilyn Monroe lookalike with two hearts. You can’t talk to me about being ridiculous. It is the one thing you’re better at than me, after all.” from I Do, I Do, I Do (The Month of Sundays Remix)

So I just finally finished and posted my Yuletide fic! \o/ It was, as you can see, for Jonathan Creek, and the assignment was a lot of fun. Real life is just such an inconvenience, isn't it?

This was originally going to be a Five AUs fic, but I got as far as no. 2 (Time Travel) and then this happened. Which I haven't marked as AU because technically there is nothing to say that none of this happened in canon, even if it probably didn't. ;-p

So, as I said, [community profile] fandom_stocking went live and I had a lot of lovely things in mine!

I had some gifs, recs, puzzles, and best wishes, but also fab Brig/Liz fanart from [profile] paynesgray, and a glorious Bayeux Tapestry style illustration for We'll Burn That Barn When We Come To It by [personal profile] liadt. (If you enjoyed the fic, you really want to see the art!!)

I haven't even had a chance to look at other fic in the collection!

thisbluespirit: (b7 - deva)
Dear Yuletide Writer,

You share a tiny fandom with me, so that makes you a person of taste and awesomeness as far as I'm concerned and I hope that you have fun writing for me.

I am a great believer in the story that you want to tell being the one that's going to be the most compelling to read, so please, write that story. If you are the sort of person who likes a concise letter and a free hand, just go for what you have in mind. The extra details are for souls like me who want them. Do not attempt to give me everything below in one fic; you'd do yourself an injury. If anything seems contradictory, it's mostly because I like all sorts of different things at different times in different fandoms.

Annual long flaily letter continues under here )
thisbluespirit: (I Capture - writing)
First, for [personal profile] executrix who asked (after I bounced up and down and said I would take any excuse to write Enemy at the Door) for Dr Martel, being accused of collaboration, post-Occupation. I'm afraid it isn't very exciting, but I have now wroted it, which is always something:

Fandom: Enemy at the Door (TV)
Rating: General Audiences

Characters: Olive Martel, Philip Martel
Additional Tags: Ficlet, Post-Canon
Summary:

The Germans might have gone, but the Martels' troubles haven't ended yet.

In the process, I fished out my Fanfic Writing Notebook (sadly neglected this year, for the Original Fic Writing Notebook (and yes, I really do have separate notebooks for them)) and found finished but untyped things lurking in it! I am on a quest to type them up.

First off is this, which my notes on it say was meant to be for [livejournal.com profile] weaselett's [community profile] fandom_stocking. I think I didn't type it up because I was too tired to know if it was funny, but it could have been because it clashed with a want/do not want, in which case, my apologies!

I also wrote stuff, shock, horror!

First, my assignment, which was for butterflymind, who (as it turned out) shares about twenty small fandoms with me, and I matched on two of them in this year's request. I badly wanted to write the one about the characters from the Miss Marple book A Moving Finger, but that didn't happen, and I did have the rough beginnings of a Jonathan Creek fic somewhere that matched the request exactly. Just one problem - I'd set up a typical Jonathan Creek mystery with no solution. (It's amazing what the brain does at need, because suddenly, I could at least come up with something to explain the ballerina, the clown and the vanishing motel...). I would have liked to have had more brain and add a little more mention of random Adam things, and just a smidgeon of something more serious to counterweight all the Maddy-Jonathan banter, but I hope that it is plain that there are feelings going on under here, as it is. Anyway, banter was what my recipient asked for, so overall I'm pleased with it (and very relieved that I caught a minor plot hole before Yuletide actually went live). Happily, my recipient seemed to like it too:

Persistence in Porcelain (4090 words) by lost_spook
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Jonathan Creek (TV)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Jonathan Creek, Maddy Magellan
Additional Tags: Yuletide
Summary:

Maddy's got a problem involving a ballerina, a clown and a vanishing motel. Obviously, there's only one person who can help. She just probably shouldn't have annoyed him first...

I also wrote two treats out in rough while the letters went up, and finally typed them up after I'd finished my main assignment (I could have done more with the Time Traveller's Guide one if I'd been badly behaved and written things the other way round, but it works. People seemed to like it.) Anyway, reading the letter requesting it, immediately made me think of writing it rather like The Tough Guide to Fantasyland (though it mutated a little from that starting point), and that was what I did. The other, well, the other was a bit of a joke and not exactly very hard to guess as being by me (to say the least), but it came out of a conversation with the recipient, and had to be done.

The Time Traveller’s Guide: Important Additional Information (1722 words) by lost_spook
Chapters: 1/1

The next round of daft snippets from the housework meme. As last time, only the tiniest bit of actual shippiness in the Allo Allo one.

So there's not much going on, and I couldn't resist retrying the meme using last names. Some couples stayed together despite the odds: Evie Eliott & Eowyn, Frobisher & Gandalf, Maddy & Maid Marian, and Servalan & Seven. The results were mostly much scarier than last time, but it did throw up some things that were amusing - and one or two I want badly now:

More mayhem and scary pairings )
thisbluespirit: (be - laura/brittas (eek))
Meme found in the wild: Make a list of all the characters in your icons. (Although you may have more than one icon of a single character, they only go on the list once.) Alphabetize it. Take the first two people on the list; that's your first pairing. Second two people; second pairing, etc. Treat us to some commentary once you're done.

I thought it'd be fun... I hadn't quite realised what a weird jumble of characters I have - some of them are there more for the action in the icon than the character. So, in most cases, let's say that instead of a commentary, a horrified silence might be more appropriate?

(Actually, it turned out better than I expected. For the first half of the alphabet, anyway.)

38 random pairings and an odd man out )
thisbluespirit: (jc - jonathan & Maddy)
(with unexpected naked!Ancelyn, as I promised Clocket).

Naturally, possible spoilers for the S2 episodes Danse Macabre and Mother Redcap under the cut (although I have done my very best not to reveal any of the how/whodunnit aspect, I promise!):

In which Peter Davison turns up at the door dressed as a vicar and Jonathan wants Maddy to check his underwear... )

In which Jonathan chats up WPC Nicola while Maddy discovers that Ancelyn (all right, Marcus Gilbert) has an interesting hobby... )
thisbluespirit: (jc - jonathan & Maddy)
This wasn't going to be the character for today, but I got carried away earlier when my collecting of bits and pieces and so on led to unexpected Colin Baker and Anthony Stewart Head (see below) among other things. (Besides, does Jonathan Creek count as obscure? Doesn't feel like it can be, really...)

How come when I stay at your place you get the bed and I get the sofa, but when you stay at my place you still get the bed and I get the sofa? )

So Far )

ETA: Oh, yes, forgot to say that Colin Baker's character has a wardrobe that is painted a suspiciously familiar colour of blue.
