Giant Public Eye icon repost! (And I mean giant - I made two sets originally, so altogether I think there are 150 icons. Mostly Alfred Burke and Pauline Delany, but also a random assortment of familiar guest stars.)

Part Two: Recurring Characters & Episode Guide.

From [livejournal.com profile] jjpor: It's the morning after the revolution before. The Evil Empire has fallen; the Plucky Rebels won against impossible odds, as Plucky Rebels tend to do. Now they've just got to deal with the messy aftermath and, you know, actually govern the place. Preferably without becoming like the regime they've just defeated.

HEROES OF THE REVOLUTION

"The state has failed us, over and over, so we decide ourselves who to protect and who to betray, who to save and who to kill. This was no more, no less than that. Another act of conscience, if you like. Let's call it the final act of revolution - and remember we're all complicit in the crime."

A critically-acclaimed but long-forgotten 13 episode drama series from 1973/4 that starred Gemma Jones, Alfred Burke, Julian Glover and Diane Keen.

Set in the near-future in an alternate (but not too different) reality, where a tyrannical regime has been in power in Britain for nearly three decades, a group of freedom fighters led by a man known as "Arran", finally defeat the dictator Hallam - and then a new battle begins, one where the lines are even less clear than before. It explores the ethics of power as a drama plays out between the victorious rebel leaders, the remnant of the old guard, and those who want to find more peaceful solutions for the future.

My resolution not to talk about Public Eye at you any more unfortunately only ended in icons. What else was I to do? And so here they are, before I add them to my pile of Icons I Must Actually Post Some Day. 71 icons - text and images (mainly images). (Also including a few familiar guest stars at the end.)

It's amazing what grows slowly on your hard-drive, like some sort of 70s DW themed invasion of pixels... And maybe count it as my tribute to Nicholas Courtney and Elisabeth Sladen. And belatedly to Barry Letts.

There is definitely something the matter with this year; Diana Wynne Jones died last month, and before that Nicholas Courtney (who, if anyone was as important/moreso than a Doctor, it was he) and now, Elisabeth Sladen. Which is impossible, isn't it? If someone had asked me to make a list of who might be next (and why would you do that, you morbid person?) I would never, even on a very long list, have listed her. But respectable news sites are all agreeing it is not an internet joke, so it must be true.

It doesn't really matter who was your favourite companion (mine was not Sarah Jane, but only because DW has such a lot of excellence to choose from in that matter, and also because I always had this suspicion that maybe Elisabeth Sladen was more awesome than Sarah), but she had over its initial run become somehow the quintessential companion. My dog-eared DisContinuity Guide talks often of her epic screen-saving ability that even dignified a lot of sfx that didn't deserve it. And when I was watching 'New' Who, it took me a very long while to believe it really was my DW. (It might possibly have been The Adventures of Rose Tyler, from what I could see, which was fun, but not what I was after). But then Sarah walked back in, and clearly, it was still DW, and that was a marvellous thing, even before you think how wonderful and improbable it is that then the Sarah Jane Adventures could exist. Actually, in my head, I've always secretly cast the young Elisabeth Sladen as Elizabeth Bennet, and there's not much of a higher compliment you can pay a person than that.

So, anyway: it is true, and such a shock, and much much too soon (at least another 20 years at the outside, please) - and my prayers and sympathies to her family and friends & colleagues.

Not much else to say, but here's a link to a lovely fanvid by [livejournal.com profile] dbskyler which I was planning to point people to this week, anyway: Story in Your Eyes (Hope you don't mind, [livejournal.com profile] dbskyler!)

Also, in my bits & pieces icons pile, there were these, so here's a small offering, found on my harddrive:

(I didn't think anyone would mind the Brig sneaking in, as I found him lurking there, too. He is looking at Sarah, anyway, so there.)
