3 things

1. If you are in the UK, TalkingPictures have just started showing Public Eye again on weekdays at 8pm (from Monday just gone, but, hey S5 is probably a better place to start than S4 anyway, amazing as S4 is). You can watch Frank and his mug for free and I cannot recommend the experience highly enough.

2. [personal profile] aralias posted this from Paul Darrow's autobiography, where he speculated about obits that might be written about him, which is still making me laugh. (The BBC one is particularly great.*)

3. I made some noms for [community profile] hetswap just in case. They have pretty generous nomming allowances, so I have spaces! Anyone want any het or poly (involving some M and some F somewhere) relationships added in DW (1963), DW (Big Finish), Blake's 7, Timeless or Sapphire & Steel? I am probably going to add in some Original prompts, Dracula of some kind (if I'm very likely not to play is it fair to nom the 1968?), and OUaT, I think.

* If you're not a B7 fan, just understand that Avon is in every single episode of B7 except one...

1. My family have gone home now. I saw them intermittently, but it was very nice. I drew several castles for my nephew and niece to colour, and Middle Sis was here for half the day yesterday before she got the train, did a massive lot of cleaning, and then thanked me for the fun she'd had before she left. Hopefully, I won't take too long to recover.

2. [community profile] hetswap noms are open and I am reminding myself that doing exchanges in summer is not a good idea, but I had fun with that one when it ran before (in Feb/Mar/April time!) and now it allows poly and art/vids/podfic, too. I shall probably nominate but be stern with myself unless I am inspired to write a thing straight off, because I always forget just how much my PC time can be curtailed in summer. (Hetswap is usually tiny enough that gaming the system is possible, so that can work.) After all, it's not as I can write Librarian/Demon more than once in a lifetime, and I can write for [personal profile] paranoidangel any time I feel like it, even if, it's true, I can't demand that she write for me any time I like. ;-p*

3. A new bingo that looks like fun - [community profile] crossoverbingo! Am also trying to resist that...

* We meet even more inevitably than usual in this exchange.

So, [community profile] hetswap went live on Monday night and I woke up on Tuesday to have the pleasure of reading this fun and sweet tail end of a missing Daisy Dalrymple mystery:

But for the Grace (2918 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Daisy Dalrymple - Carola Dunn
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Daisy Dalrymple/Alec Fletcher
Characters: Daisy Dalrymple, Alec Fletcher
Additional Tags: Murder Mystery, Post-World War I
Summary: Alec's in danger from a murderer and Daisy's the only one who can save him.

<3

It's such a small collection I could barely find any other fandoms to read, although there was a pretty nice Pride and Prejudice missing scene, but that just means there are probably authors in desperate need of feedback from people outside the exchange who know their fandoms, so it is here if you want to explore.

(I have had some nice comments on mine, though, so I am v happy.)

1. [community profile] hetswap assignments finally went out last night. I have one that hopefully should be possible and fun to do (the one I guessed I'd get - it's proved to be a very small exchange this round), although my other strong suspicion that I was unmatchable myself was also true and I was in the first batch of pinch hits. However, it's okay, I've been claimed some time this afternoon, so I needn't worry that my requests for weird DW pairings involving splintered alien art thieves put anyone off. At least, not yet.

2. Talking about When the Boat Comes In reminded me that I'd scribbled out a ficlet for a [community profile] genprompt_bingo square when I started S4, but saved it to type up once I knew whether it got jossed or not. So last night, I provided AO3 with its first WtBCI work, which I'm sure nobody but me wanted, but, hey, bingo square! (Plus, it's fun to make new fandoms be a thing.)

Night Jitters (583 words) by lost_spook
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: When the Boat Comes In (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Jack Ford & Bella Seaton
Characters: Jack Ford, Bella Seaton
Additional Tags: Season/Series 04, Missing Scene, Ficlet, Community: hc_bingo
Summary: Jack Ford’s not one for nerves, at least not in the usual way, but times have changed.

Dear [community profile] hetswap Author,

Hello and thank you for writing for me! This letter is ridiculously long (sorry!), but I am open to lots of different types of stories, so don't be put off if you prefer short letters. As long as you avoid my DNWs, I'm sure I will love whatever you can come up with for one of these pairings. (Prompts in particular are purely for inspiration, as I'm someone who appreciates them myself - if you already have an idea, just go with that.)

Onto the usual long flaily letter of wishes )

1. [community profile] hetswap has nominations open till 3rd Feb. (I expect not to be able to sign up, but I did nominate some things just in case. It was fun last year, and this year's mod looks a little more on the ball, too, so I'm not ruling things out yet.)

2. Sign-ups are ongoing to Monday for [community profile] worldbuildingex. (Which I haven't ever done because lack of brain, but seems v cool).

3. Let me pimp my own ongoing challenge comms, since I seem unlikely to be running ficathons any time soon: [community profile] who_allsorts, which is basically an old-style claims comm for Doctor Who but with many mini prompt tables ranging from sets of 3-20, fairly wide and laid back options on claiming (character/ship/era or theme if you prefer to mix it up character/pairing-wise) and you can make fills in any fanwork type. And I'm very proud of my pretty prompt sets. (Some of which, of course, came courtesy of you lot.)

Also [community profile] tic_tac_woe (aka apocabingo), the Apocalyptic mini bingo challenge! (Each card has nine apocalyptic prompts: get your bingo by destroying/saving the world at least three times in a row - all fandoms and origfic welcome, ditto all fandom types. The end of the world is an equal opportunity experience here. ;-p)

My other [community profile] hetswap fic was my first ever pinch hit, for [personal profile] glinda, who had included Eight/Charley in their requests, and so I had to try. And incidentally, now my sign-ups to assignments ratio is only one out! (I suppose that means that to keep it correct, now I have to pick up one more pinch hit and that'll fix it.)

So, that was fun, although I feel slightly bad because maybe a better, shippier person would have picked it up if I hadn't foiled them by snaffling it, but oh well.

Unconsidered Trifles (1835 words) by lost_spook
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Doctor Who (Big Finish Audio)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Eighth Doctor/Charley Pollard
Characters: Eighth Doctor, Charley Pollard
Additional Tags: Timey-Wimey, Fluff, Season/Series 01, with a bonus guest appearance
Summary: There's something odd going on inside the TARDIS. Even odder than usual, that is.

Now also on Teaspoon.

[community profile] hetswap has been revealed now! My assignment was (in a truly shocking, astonishing, unbelieveable turn of events) for Paranoidangel.

(Although to be fair, usually she gets assigned to me, whereas I think I've only got her once before.)

Anyway, that meant I got to write some B7 Tarrant/Dayna fic (which, lol, was not super-popular over at the fest):

Ghost Lights (4930 words) by lost_spook
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Blake's 7
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Dayna Mellanby/Del Tarrant
Characters: Del Tarrant, Dayna Mellanby
Additional Tags: Season/Series 03, Grief/Mourning, References to canon character deaths, post episode s03e12 deathwatch, Explosions
Summary: While out on a mission, Dayna and Tarrant find the past catching up with them in a particularly dangerous fashion.

(I did write something else as well, but more about that anon, hopefully before the end of the day.)

In other reading, [community profile] hetswap went live today and I had both my gift fic and an unexpected unofficial gift fic (from ParanoidAngel):

My gift fic, a sweet and funny little Emma Swan/Captain Hook fic:

A Little Blue Bottle (2219 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Once Upon a Time (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Captain Hook | Killian Jones/Emma Swan
Characters: Emma Swan, Captain Hook | Killian Jones, Henry Mills (Once Upon a Time), Evil Queen | Regina Mills, Rumplestiltskin | Mr. Gold, Violet (Once Upon a Time), Prince Charming | David Nolan, Snow White | Mary Margaret Blanchard
Summary: Emma and Killian go on a date, but something gets in the way of enjoying it fully.

And my unofficial, non-anonymous gift, which was much fun and introduced Evelyn and Six to the cake!fic genre, something that was way overdue, all considered:

Chocolate Cake, a Cardigan and a Coat (1173 words) by paranoidangel
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Doctor Who (Big Finish Audio)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Sixth Doctor, Evelyn Smythe
Additional Tags: Cake, Cake Fic Meme, chocolate cake, Lemon Drizzle Cake
Summary: The Sixth Doctor and Evelyn find themselves chained together and covered in chocolate cake.

So, that was very nice, all round & I enjoyed a few of the other stories in the collection, too.

1. I decided that there's really no point in trying to catch up with [community profile] snowflake_challenge now. After all, the questions come around each time!

2. Although I didn't write anything for [community profile] fandom_stocking, I did post Chapter One of the Sapphire & Steel fic I've been writing for [personal profile] annariel and [personal profile] kaffy_r since last fandom_stocking just to show it is a thing that exists (and hopefully will soon continue). Anyway, Sapphire, Steel and Copper in the 1920s, in a spooky house:

When the Lights Go Out (2797 words) by lost_spook
Chapters: 1/?
Fandom: Sapphire and Steel
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Sapphire (S&S), Steel, Copper (S&S), Original Characters
Additional Tags: Brother-Sister Relationships, 1920s, Ghosts, Supernatural Elements, Character Death, seances, Mentions of World War I, References to Suicide, Evil Wallpaper
Summary: It seemed like such a lark, to hold a séance in a haunted house, but what human can bargain with time or death - or even Elements?

3. I was trying to write a letter yesterday for [community profile] hetswap so I can sign up (because that's the only way I get my requests together for these things) and realised I might just as well start it "Dear Paranoidangel..." instead of Dear Author. Unless of course, she doesn't sign up, in which case I may be unmatchable. Heh. We'll see! First I need to get back enough brain to write requests... (I'm sure tomorrow will be betterer!)

4. Thank you for all the [livejournal.com profile] dw_allsorts prompts! I've updated the choice of tables now and you provided some lovely ones! It was very helpful. :-)
