I got sidetracked out of anything I was supposed to be doing today, and instead made a TARDIS Team Mash Up Generator! (ETA: Via Perchance, I should say, which [personal profile] potentiality_26 linked to and though I've looked at it before, this time I had an idea and I made a bit more sense of it.)

I think it's pretty good fun already, although I suppose I would. (It matches up a Doctor (or another Time Lord) with a companion (or companion team) plus a plot and object (generally based on something from canon). I might tweak it a bit as well, but we'll see.

End result = things like:

The Twelfth Doctor and Charley, in an adventure in Cromer, armed only with their wits and a rope ladder.

The Rani and Rose, in an adventure where the authorities won't listen, armed only with their wits and a banana.

The Rani and the Master and Frobisher, in an adventure with Vikings, armed only with their wits and a double bluff.

The Twelfth Doctor and Rose and Jack, in an adventure at the beginning of the universe, armed only with their wits and a cricket ball.

The Sixth Doctor and River, in an adventure without the TARDIS, armed only with their wits and a motorbike.

The Fourth Doctor and a Clara splinter, in an adventure with the Mara, armed only with their wits and flirting ability.

The Rani and Shirley Bingham, in an adventure with a virus, armed only with their wits and ruthlessness.

The Eleventh Doctor and Amy, in an adventure with demons, armed only with their wits and a mobile phone.

[community profile] remixrevival has had its author reveal and now I can own up that I wrote this for [personal profile] ruuger, which I'm sure will surprise no one who knows me.

I got [personal profile] ruuger as my assignment and was keen to remix some of their Twelfth Doctor fic and then re-read Old, New, Borrowed, Blue (in which Thirteen, while dressed as Marilyn Monroe at a party, accidentally marries Eleven) and approximately an hour later, a rough draft of this was in my notebook, because how could I possibly resist cracky accidental marriage fic involving the Doctor? And then summer defeated me and I had to default, being unable to type up so much as a word of it. Luckily, autumn has already been kinder and I got this done post-deadline. I also made reference to Hope is All We Have, which was at least a Twelfth Doctor story.

So, as I said, [community profile] fandom_stocking went live and I had a lot of lovely things in mine!

I had some gifs, recs, puzzles, and best wishes, but also fab Brig/Liz fanart from [profile] paynesgray, and a glorious Bayeux Tapestry style illustration for We'll Burn That Barn When We Come To It by [personal profile] liadt. (If you enjoyed the fic, you really want to see the art!!)

Plus, lovely Jonathan Creek icons from [personal profile] tarlanx.

more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, PG by [personal profile] rain_sleet_snow (The Quiet Gentleman/The Grand Sophy, five times fic, with Drusilla, Sophy and supernatural goings on.)

The rest were all on AO3 so I will share the links for your convenience. I recommend them all very much indeed! I am still all overcome.

1. Just a small good thing in the world: I don't know whether this got taken down, or I just lost my links, or whatever, but yesterday I was very excited to see that Odessie/Nancy Blackett was putting some old vids up on AO3, including the marvellous DW female companion tribute:

Just A Girl which is still one of the best companion tributes I've seen.

(I've made sure to add it to my online bookmarks this time). A good thing indeed.

For the Talking Meme, from [livejournal.com profile] eowyn: what about what Doctor Who episode is your favourite, and why?

This is a very, very hard question. This is the hardest question on this list. There are a lot of DW serials and episodes I like! How do I choose? Do I cheat and make a list? Do I do one per Doctor? One for New Who and one for Old Who? Can I do a list per Doctor?

It is also, obviously, as you can see, a good question! I decided to answer it as this: if I'm forced to go downstairs and select an episode to watch for each Doctor right now, which one would I pick? (Presumably, that one will be as reasonably close to current favourite as I can get. Tomorrow, of course, it could be different. It did give a little edge of random to it, anyway & I tried not to be spoilery about anything.)

Cut for the list )

... so all right, that was a bit long and self-indulgent, but sometimes it's nice to remind yourself of all the things you love about your favourite fandom. Have a multi-Doctor fanvid. It is after all, a thing of monsters and imagination and friendship and JOY. <3

Fic! 500 Prompts fic; also for a bingo square! (AU meme fic 1 down, 10 pending, shhh. I wrote a thing, anyway.)

My now-regular Thursday feature! (We'll see how long this lasts. ;-p)

1. For some reason I'd been feeling a bit down the last couple of days, but you know what is always at least a little bit cheering at such moments? Multi-era Doctor Who fanvids. I was cheering myself with Marching On by xxdrosexx and then wondering why I didn't have any yet that went up to Twelve, so I went looking, and found this, which is also great:

Cut for embed )

Because Doctor Who is, after all, that great big improbable and ridiculous thing of joy and monsters. :-)

And I'm continuing to enjoy watching (or reading) from the sidelines as the Public Call fics get revealed, so here's two more good ones:

2. A Taste of Home by dbskyler (G, 1784 words. Fourth Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, Harry Sullivan.) Sarah, the Doctor, and home. Lovely glimpse of some 'missing scenes' from Terror of the Zygons.

3. Side Quest by annariel (G, 6388 words. Harry Sullivan, Fourth Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith.) Harry is collecting equipment for the Doctor when he runs into an adventure of his own. Can he foil the evil Dr. Richards, while at the same time helping the Doctor and Sarah fend off an alien invasion they somehow never quite have the time to explain properly to him? Excellent missing adventure, with Harry getting to prove his worth.

4. The Terrible Doom That Came To Honeysuckle Cottage by Psychomachia (Teen, 2592 words.) There's a saying old says that love is blind
Still we're often told, seek and ye shall find
So I'm going to seek a certain lad I've had in mind.
One of the best and funniest fics to come out of last year's Yuletide: the Cthulhu Mythos meets P.G. Wodehouse's Honeysuckle cottage. (Definitely a don't-need-to-know-canon fic.)

5. By Wise Council You Shall Make Your War by beer_good_foamy (Teen, 722 words. Edmund Blackadder, George Colthurst St. Barleigh, Baldrick, Bob. Crossover with Buffy the Vampire Slayer.) In each generation, a Slayer is born. She alone will stand against the etc etc. In 1917, that was a young woman named... um... Bob? Good thing the Watcher's Council have an auxiliary member already in place in the trenches. What it says, oh yes, oh yes. :-D

First, an absolutely lovely multi-era DW vid, following companions after they've left the Doctor. It brightened my day yesterday, so here's passing it on to you all if you haven't already caught it:

Cut for Embed )

The vid post for it is here. It's a joyous thing, but the best bit is the Brigadier, obviously.

***

And two more [livejournal.com profile] runaway_tales:

The Past Is Neither Dead Nor Distant (PG, 5182 words. Edward Iveson/Julia Graves.) Julia doesn’t like strangers in the house (or mushroom soup), and Edward doesn’t want to talk about his mother. It all comes down to much the same thing, in the end.

And this, which I had far too much fun making (it's technically an art piece, but actually fic in the shape of letters):

Wolves at the Door (and Other Unlikely Tales) (All ages, art. Edward Iveson.) That time the summer term was one unlikely calamity after another (at least, according to Edward).

***

If I'm a little erratic about commenting for a while, bear with me. At this point in August I seem to suffer from stress (summer is a month too long, apparently, and the strain turns into stress just about... now; so it's been for the past three years & at least this year I went "aha!" and stopped before things got worse), so until I feel a little better (which will be very soon! maybe even today!), I shall focus on the creative things.

Take care. ♥

It's just possible that I got a wee bit carried away writing that massive Whoniverse orgy that I would never write. *cough*

(Minus any actual orgy-ing, of course. Obviously.)

[livejournal.com profile] clocketpatch: "DW: ALL of the Doctors and Companions (including Big Finish, Book, Expanded universe, Cushing, and Curse of the Fatal Death Companions and Doctors) have a massive Space!Orgy together on Pluto."

But the thing is, while I would never be the person to write an orgy, I have always had a weakness for multi-era crack...

There might be 2000 words behind the cut... )

Story: Ten Times the Doctor (Almost) Got Hitched
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 5700
Characters/Pairings: First Doctor, Second Doctor, Ben Jackson, Polly Wright, Third Doctor, Liz Shaw, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Fourth Doctor, Harry Sullivan, Sarah Jane Smith, Fifth Doctor, Tegan Jovanka, Turlough, Sixth Doctor, Evelyn Smythe, Seventh Doctor, Bernice Summerfield, Eighth Doctor, Charley Pollard, Ninth Doctor, Jack Harkness, Rose Tyler, Tenth Doctor
Warnings: Technically spoilers for the CIN clip, but I really, really wouldn't worry. However, I should apologise for the shocking use of historical figures.

Summary: You wouldn't believe how difficult it is for a passing Time Lord not to get married a famous woman completely by accident. Seriously. Happens all the time.

Another one for which I hold DbyA to blame - I have lots of other things to be writing! But I suppose I did very much enjoy writing most of it, especially Seven and Eight.

As usual, be patient until okayed onto Teaspoon.
thisbluespirit: (Default)
Especially for Valentine's Day (well, really, I lie. That was just coincidence, but allow me to pretend to be an evil mastermind) - A series of multi-Doctor drabbles about that intelligent, preferably scientific and older female (well, not older than him, obviously) as the Type he tends to have as his romantic ideal. Even if he continually falls for people who don't match the profile. Oh, the hypocrite...

Title: Love & Science
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook
Characters: Doctors 1-8, 10 (but all of them eventually) and various others.
Rating: All Ages
Summary (see above!)
Link: http://www.whofic.com/viewstory.php?sid=29206
Other: Collection of Drabbles.

Plus, although this is still very new, a related series of AUs for the companions, based on their habit of leaving to marry people they've only just met:

Title: Happy Endings, Hasty Exits
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook
Characters: Third Doctor, Jo Grant, Captain Yates, Sergeant Benton, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Fourth Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, Harry Sullivan. (So far).
Rating: All Ages
Summary: "I want to stay on this planet and marry X!" Some roads not taken. Some of them will be very silly, some very short, some long and some a whole lot more plausible than what really happened...
