I am sorry, I am still being all intermittent, but life, stuff, you know. But I have watched some [community profile] festivids offerings already and must share, even though I haven't nearly finished.

So, far, I have loved:

You Might Think - completely adorable Pushing Daisies Ned/Chuck vid of not touching (because death, you know how it is), which instantly just made me want to rewatch PD all over again.

That Don't Impress Me Much - C.J. being very unimpressed at all her male colleagues, really great fun.

Our House - a Ghosts vid! I really enjoyed the series last year, and this definitely captures the madness.

Victorious, for Moulin Rouge. I was so curious when I saw it about what someone would do with MR, given the nature of it, and this was just great, shifting the tone with the choice of music, but simultaneously staying really true, and v dramatically edited.

Body Talks, Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers, just delightful.

Plus, I have now accidentally done [community profile] snowflake_challenge Day 8 (rec at least three fanworks you didn't create). \o/

And I haven't by any means finished yet with [community profile] festivids yet, but I can't watch too many things in a row.
thisbluespirit: (reading)
I decided on getting my bingo card last year that I would make a rec set for the square "Genderswap". And finally, after discovering some great fanworks I'd never have otherwise seen, here it is.

The works on this list are mainly Rule 63/Always Another Gender AUs with some male-to-female regeneration works for Doctor Who and bodyswap fic where the bodyswapped characters are male and female.

17 recs in 15th & 16th C Hist RPF, Angel, Arthurian Myths, Babylon 5, Blake's 7, Doctor Who, The Flash, Jane Eyre, Lord of the Rings, Pride & Prejudice, Red Dwarf, Shakespeare, The West Wing, The White Queen )
thisbluespirit: (dw- chimes may not have known it was imp)
The first four bits of resulting nonsense from the meme. As predicted, there was very little shippiness. I mean, have you got time for that sort of thing when you're doing the housework? ;-)

1. Doctor Who - Five/Tegan: mowing the lawn From [livejournal.com profile] eve11 (170 words)

Lawn-mowing ficlet )

4. B7 - Avon/Servalan: changing the light-bulb From [livejournal.com profile] lolmac (112 words)

How many enemies does it take to change a light-bulb? )

13. The West Wing - Sam Seaborn/Ainsley Hayes: washing the car - From [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2 (213 words)

In which there may possibly be doughnuts )

Sapphire & Steel - Silver/Steel: alphabetising their CD collection From [livejournal.com profile] pitry (515 words).

Just imagining Steel and Silver having a shared CD collection to sort amused me muchly, because they really, really wouldn’t. And if they did, Steel’s would be tiny to non-existent, consisting of select instrumental pieces that he felt were not a potential threat to reality (taking a moment of time, physically recording it, and playing it over and over? That’s just asking for the end of the world, people). Silver would have by far the larger part of the collection, and it would be almost entirely made up of music he bought to annoy Steel (and a few things he thought were pretty). And in any case, he’d probably get bored with them and turn all the discs into something else.

So I wrote this:
Alphabetical order is vitally important )

(I've only used 9 out of 20 pairings, if anyone wants to assign any more tasks to the remaining people - the original post is here.)
thisbluespirit: (b7 - Orac!)
Before I forget again...

Orac/Nyssa drabble for [livejournal.com profile] b7love_250.

24 icons from The West Wing & Press Gang (9 text, 15 images) for the current [livejournal.com profile] fan_flashworks challenge 'breakfast'.

And, other than that, I don't know. Tired, but okay? Hmm, talking of one of my comms reminds me. I most post the discussion post on [livejournal.com profile] dw_straybunnies that I've had ready for a month or so. *notes to do later* (Lunch etc first.)
thisbluespirit: (S&S - OT3)
Yesterday was an odd day, for a reason that I will explain later (like the Doctor) but also because of a pretty awful one that I can't (nobody's ill or died, but something really crazy and awful has happened to someone in my family - they wouldn't appreciate me explaining online, so I won't). Anyway, it was an odd day & I'm still a little tired, but I'll try & catch up with you all presently.

However, this morning (as well as having to go see the doctor; not The Doctor, sadly, although I wouldn't trust a sick note from him) I woke up to find the Remix Madness collection has opened, and that someone had actually remixed one of my ficlets:

The People On The Balcony (The Lone Girl Remix) (341 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Sapphire and Steel
Rating: General Audiences
Relationships: Sapphire/Silver/Steel
Summary: She doesn't know who they are, she doesn't care, but she knows that they belong together.

It's a remix of Stealing A Moment, an OT3ish Sapphire & Steel ficlet I wrote the other week, and it's really lovely, using an outsider POV to look at the three. *pets shiny remix ficlet*

The main collection is here. I haven't really looked properly, but did stop the other day to read a couple brilliant West Wing fics:

Links under here )

Also, while I am on the subject of ficathons and exchanges and so on, [livejournal.com profile] not_primetime is gearing up for its exchange, and I can't sign up, really, but it's sort of Yuletide for medium-sized fandoms that are ineligible for Yuletide but are not those big fandoms with their own exchanges... which includes Classic Doctor Who and the main Big Finish ranges (and, other things, but what else matters?). So I thought I should mention it as relevant to your interests, dear flist. (You should go nominate so ALL THE CHARACTERS are available.)
thisbluespirit: (AA - Herr Flick not in the handbook)
So there's not much going on, and I couldn't resist retrying the meme using last names. Some couples stayed together despite the odds: Evie Eliott & Eowyn, Frobisher & Gandalf, Maddy & Maid Marian, and Servalan & Seven. The results were mostly much scarier than last time, but it did throw up some things that were amusing - and one or two I want badly now:

More mayhem and scary pairings )
thisbluespirit: (be - laura/brittas (eek))
Meme found in the wild: Make a list of all the characters in your icons. (Although you may have more than one icon of a single character, they only go on the list once.) Alphabetize it. Take the first two people on the list; that's your first pairing. Second two people; second pairing, etc. Treat us to some commentary once you're done.

I thought it'd be fun... I hadn't quite realised what a weird jumble of characters I have - some of them are there more for the action in the icon than the character. So, in most cases, let's say that instead of a commentary, a horrified silence might be more appropriate?

(Actually, it turned out better than I expected. For the first half of the alphabet, anyway.)

38 random pairings and an odd man out )
thisbluespirit: (b7 - Servalan enemies)
Before I get onto the other reasons, let me tell you that I am crazy (oh, yes, you had all probably gathered that by now) and so when I found this Random Pairing Generator* the other day that will do B7 pairings (it kept trying to give me Vila/Anna Grant. Now there's a scenario that's going to go well. Avalon/Kasabi was kind of intriguing, though) I thought: yes! Now we can have a B7 equivalent of [livejournal.com profile] whoniverse1000!!

So, um, there is, or there might/will be. It's [livejournal.com profile] b7love_250 (I downsized appropriately) and I am wanting some thoughts (mostly from the B7 fans round here, but other people can look and feedback if they are feeling kind).

Also, [livejournal.com profile] sallymn made 6 beautiful Servalan-in-white icons (see icon on this post for example). (I might have mentioned one time or other that it would be a nice thing if there were some. *guilt/joy*)

And then [livejournal.com profile] scifi_mel posted her vid of Jacqueline Pearce talking about her autobiography. (She got to go the other week, and there was only Katy Manning and Jan Chappell in the audience and everything. *is not jealous*)

So. Clearly it is Blake's 7 day today.

*Of the tiny group of fandoms on this site, it includes The West Wing and Blake's 7. I cannot imagine any of the people from those two fandoms ever coinciding, certainly not with things going well, but it amuses me a lot that the option actually exists. Oh, internet, internet. Or, oh, fandom... You have your moments.

ETA: It just gave me Toby Ziegler/Bayban the Butcher. I think that might be the unlikeliest pairing a RPG has ever given me. *brain 'splode* LOL

ETA2: ORAC/Q! ♥

In other news, I decided life is too short not to have small, beautiful icons. Or something.
thisbluespirit: (S&S - Silver looks up)
The full set of icons made for [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo (minus only the icons that were made as specific requests, and the Big Finish ones, which will follow shortly). The last lot of request icons, for [livejournal.com profile] paranoidangel42 who actually wanted as many Doctors as I could get on an icon (I have an idea, and I'd like to make it one day, but I had to admit it wasn't sensible at the moment) but did also say 'or bunnies!' and [livejournal.com profile] belantana who really asked for a West Wing picspam, but she did say 'anything to do with the West Wing', so I made yet more icons.

Bunnies and US Politics? )
thisbluespirit: (ww - donna aww)
Another female for the meme; I don't think this will surprise anyone who's been hanging around here much lately:

You have enormous value to me, you have no value to Eastern Europe. )

So Far )
thisbluespirit: (carry on Richard O'C go away reading)
Okay, well I still feel like I've only scratched the surface and I haven't read through some of the larger sections, like Fairy Tales, and The Sarah Jane Adventures (both of which I mean to), but here are a handful of great stories in unlikely fandoms, and my last Yuletide recs post. (Probably.)

I was inspired to go back by looking through the collection of prompts, and repeatedly wondering if someone wrote that request, because it sounded great... In many cases, someone had:

Spooks, Discworld, The Mummy, Rentaghost, Tough Guide, Swallows & Amazons and more )
thisbluespirit: (Default)
I'll try and get onto the meme reveal and answers presently, but [livejournal.com profile] pitry gave me '7, 2 and 14 are locked in a wine cellar - one finds treasure, one gets drunk, and one is planning to escape'.

As the characters in question were the First Doctor, the Eighth Doctor, and Donna Moss from the West Wing, it seemed immediately obvious that Eight would be treasure-hunting, that Donna would be the one trying to find a way out (practical as ever), and, erm, One would be having a nice time, drinking the wine. So, please accept that this is a piece of nonsense, but I had to write it:

Locked In )

I very much doubt there will be actual fic from the rest, but this just... wrote itself before breakfast yesterday.

Some more West Wing icons (mainly quotes, but also a couple of some of the characters I missed last time - Bartlet, Abbey, Leo, Charlie and CJ.)

Spoiler free and (hopefully) fun clips and quotes from The West Wing, which I have been watching all week in lieu of being able to do much else. I remembered writing random fic last time this happened. This week there were icons, instead - and this.

(The only spoilers are for knowing which characters are still around in S2 and S4. And I think the Sam/Ainsley clips are funny out of context, certainly the two where she meets the President, so here goes...)

But first a general series fanvid (only goes up to S3 and pretty safe):

Ainsley muffins and Sam )

And onto more important West Wing related things, now for Josh and Donna...

Josh and Donna )

Next time I watch a ridiculous amount of the show, I promise some President Bartlet spammage instead. Now I'll remember that I am primarily a Doctor Who fan or something like that...
thisbluespirit: (WW - josh/donna snow)
Not what I was supposed to be doing, but then I thought it would be fun to have a Ainsley Can-I-have-a-muffin icon. 54 other icons later, I did remember to do that...

Pics & Quotes, mainly Josh/Donna and Sam/Ainsley, but some others. As far as I know, no actual harm was done to any turkeys, goats or bicycles.

Day 03 - Your favorite new show (aired this TV season): The West Wing

My answer to this shows how hypocritical me recommending shows is, because I simply haven't watched anything new new for a long time, only returning series I already like. Bad me. However, in the meantime I have been watching some new old things on DVD, and in the spirit of this question, I choose the most recent.

(Disclaimer: I was keeping quiet about this in case anyone in the US had political objections, or anyone wanted to spoil it by telling me it got rubbish after Season X or Y. I have some knowledge of US politics, but only historical. I just like it as a TV show.) It is very well written, exceptionally so, in places, and the characterisation is second to none. Martin Sheen is awesome (the entrance is pretty great in ep1 "I am the LORD your God!"), and Donna Moss is one of my new favourite characters in anything, which means I have to watch the rest of it now. I don't think this counts as a spoiler but )

I'm only up to the first eps of S4, so spoiler me and I may have to do something nasty.

(But when, when are they going to run around a bit and try to defuse a bomb/save the world/solve the crime? Oh, wait, have I been watching too much Spooks and stuff? Don't people on TV always solve crimes, save the universe and fight the bad guys?)

Having said that, I think there ought to be quotes:

thisbluespirit: (West Wing)
I wasn’t very well today and spent a lot of it lying about not doing much and watching The West Wing (when I had the energy). And I’ve come to the conclusion (all but 3 eps from the end of S3) that I’m not sure it will ever give me the entertaining trainwreck that would be actual Sam/Ainsley, and, after all the random encounters every six episodes or so, I want the trainwreck. So I wrote this. Half my brain wasn’t working and I know pretty much nothing about Democrats and Republicans, so I made it mostly about muffins. Not that I know much about muffins, either. I’ll write everything I was supposed to be writing and catch up properly when I have a brain again. It may comfort people to know that enforced inactivity also got me to work out an awkward UNIT-related plot point. Or not.

(No spoilers. Except for there being characters called Sam and Ainsley, and that nothing like this has happened so far, sadly. Sorry.)

Story: It's Me or the Muffin
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1359
Characters/Pairings: Sam Seaborn, Ainsley Hayes, Josh Lyman
Warnings: None. Except what I said above.

Summary: Ainsley has an ultimatum to make. Either way, she's expecting to get a muffin.

No actual muffins were harmed in the writing of this )
thisbluespirit: (Donna and Josh)
Written for [livejournal.com profile] belantana for the crossover meme. (The prompt being Evie from The Mummy meeting someone from The West Wing. I don't propose for the others to be this long, but [livejournal.com profile] belantana kind of challenged me to introduce her to the show, which is new to me, too. I couldn't include Toby or Leo, but they get refs.)

Story: The Usual Insanity
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 2578
Characters/Pairings: Evelyn O'Connell, Sam Seaborn. Also Donna Moss, Josh Lyman, CJ Cregg, President Bartlett.
Warnings: Late S1, None. (The only thing that could even count as a spoiler refers to something in the first 20 mins of the series.)

Summary: There’s a crazy, beautiful librarian (or, possibly a ghost), in Sam’s office. With an urn. Nobody else is surprised.

And about the urn )
