So, I was wishing I was well enough to write fic no one would ever read for Craddock and Co because I'm still thinking about it. Well, actually, I was wishing someone else would at least have drawn art on tumblr or something, but also fic.

Anyway, I resorted to trying to draw the scene where Lucy and Uncle Charles are starting their lives of crime-fighting together myself. Apologies for the bad drawing, but in my defence a) i do not practice the art sufficiently to do it well and b) please admire my choice of suit for Lucy because I feel it is Canon now:

But it's Indian silk! )

And talking of comforting fictional period detectives, I was shocked and delighted to find on my reading list today that someone had written Sam & Sister Boniface fic. Can Sister Boniface possibly have been EATEN BY A BEAR? Sam is DISTRAUGHT. Felix is trying to patiently point out that there are no bears around in the UK any more. (spoiler: Sister Boniface has not been eaten by a bear.) <3

Sister Boniface and the Little Hillside Bear (2182 words) by meridian_rose
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Sister Boniface Mysteries (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Sister Boniface & Sam Gillespie (Sister Boniface)
Characters: Sister Boniface (Father Brown), Sam Gillespie (Sister Boniface), Felix Livingstone
Additional Tags: Friendship, Character of Faith, Community: 100fandoms, 100 fandoms dreamwidth
Summary: When Sister Boniface goes missing after a visit to her penpal, the rumour is she's been eaten by a bear. Sam and Felix won't stop until they uncover the truth.

(I'm also sorry because I seem to be over-achieving on the "post the stupid thing anyway" resolution, but I'll be ill again in half a week cos I have to go out and things and I'm still barely able to anyway. although that might just lead to worse burbling.)

I was already being overtired and blah blah blah summer, you all know the drill by now, and then as we also all know it was so hot things were on fire, and that was even less fun, but at least that has stopped for now and it is like normal outside even if inside is only more slowly winding itself down from the peak.

Anyway, in the meantime, here are some good things (for me, anyway):

* I woke up this morning to find someone I don't know at all ([tumblr.com profile] poweredbuttercup10) has made fanart of my story Red Skies, which I wrote ages ago for [personal profile] calliopes_pen, a little John/Jonathan/Mina Dracula 1968 fic, where the Harkers vamp one fainty doctor. Anyway, I did old-school squeeing, because look: https://thisbluespirit.tumblr.com/post/690462693065474048/based-on-thisbluespirit-s-ao3-work-red-skies

Amazing. <3 (I am laughing at myself a bit though: such a cute little murder scene!!! omg, darlings. <3)

* also i made another element moodboard (about a week or two ago? idk, it now seems like a lifetime or something) for Manganese: https://thisbluespirit.tumblr.com/post/689391684465967104/original-other-elements-28-manganese-he-opens

(I chose Manganese for [personal profile] theseatheseatheopensea's gift fic: The Sky Outside)

* Marie-Clare has now reacted to Blake's 7 ep2 now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fynx_-yEnCE (Go quickly, because the BBC will probably take it down soon. I won't link every week, sorry, but it was another great reaction, so XD.)

* also [personal profile] lurking_latinist happened to write Like Sunshine Through Rain, making Six/Charley fic just that tiny bit less rare (also it was excellent, yes). <3

Plus, [personal profile] bunn7cula is promising to send me a thing!

And I do at least have a draft of the Just Married fic, but also maybe defaulting would be easier than editing in summer? idk. It is a thing that will definitely be a thing now. Hopefully on time, but eventually, even if I have to wait for a better season, and I am totally being in love with this combination of characters all over again, but I can't talk about that for a month.

Snowflake Challenge promotional banner featuring a cup of frothy coffee or hot chocolate on a plate with a piece of greenery and a cozy comforter with a sprig of baby’s breath. Text: Snowflake Challenge: 1-31 January.

Challenge #6: In your own space, rec at least three fanworks that you didn’t create.

I thought I'd follow up yesterday's post with recs for my very obscure fandoms, mostly written for me, because people are kind - but not always! So here we go:

The Shadow of the Tower
(Given the nature of the fandom, most of these can be read as straight historical RPF if you are interested in WotR/early Tudors.)

The Endris Night by ancarett
G, 2140 words. Elizabeth of York/Henry VII.) What is life at the court? Is it all plots and planning or is it something more? Elizabeth brings her own strengths as she prepares to marry the new king.

Not strictly marked with the canon, but written for me and ancarett clearly used the SotT portrayals of the two. This is a lovely, tentative beginning for a royal relationship.

Seven Sevens by [personal profile] allegoriesinmediasres
(Teen, 593 words. Catherine of Aragon, Arthur Tudor, Henry VIII, Margaret Tudor, Mary I, Henry VII, Elizabeth of York.) 1501. Seven sevens will command your life.

Clever ficlet taking one of Catherine of Aragon's scenes in the series as a starting point.

A Falcon at Stoke Field by [personal profile] kaffy_r
(Teen, 926 words. Lambert Simnel.) One name had been left behind, the next was never his to begin with. In the aftermath of Stoke Field, Lambert Simnel chooses a new identity.

Excellent look at Lambert Simnel in the aftermath of Stoke (& a great little episode tag for Ep4).

Into the Light by [personal profile] theseatheseatheopensea
(G, 1698 words. The Prisoner, Silver, Copper.) There is a method to what they do—to what they are. There is something about time—a prodigious mystery, an immensity, an unimaginable infinity, and he finds it again. He has always been here, after all. And he will be here again. And they will always be here, keeping time moving forward, safely, as it should. After the fire, Copper finds some answers.

Crossover with Sapphire & Steel. Eerie and beautiful timey-wimey look at the Prisoner's fate in episode 5, which may or may not be bound up with some "Elements."

Whose Bitter Tears by misura
(G, 906 words. John de la Pole Earl of Lincoln, Henry VII.) Lincoln receives an unexpected visitor in Dublin.

Lincoln says that Henry Tudor is in is very heart in the lead-up to Stoke, and here's a brilliantly in-tone look at one of the forms that feeling might take.

Fanart by [personal profile] liadt - the serious, a lovely drawing of Henry & Elizabeth from one of my stories and the glorious crack with bonus Time Travelling Spies (and anachronistic underpants).

Department S
One Cold Knight by [personal profile] swordznsorcery
(G, 5888 words. Annabelle Hurst, Stewart Sullivan, Jason King, Sir Curtis Seretse, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Liz Shaw.) For Fandom Stocking. The Department S gang team up with UNIT.

Crossover with Doctor Who. UNIT and Department S's work inevitably collides in this wonderful pitch-perfect casefic.

The Highgate Vampire by [personal profile] theseatheseatheopensea
(G, 1000 words. Annabelle Hurst, Jason King, Stewart Sullivan, Silver.) Highgate, North London. December 1969. Fragments from a very straight-forward case. (Or: a case told in 10 drabbles.)

Crossover with Sapphire & Steel. Brilliant drabble fic of a case that's even weirder than usual for Department S, plus important cravat envy.

King or Country by Timeless-A-Peel
(Teen, 6321 words. Jason King, Tara King, Martin King, John Steed.) 1972. Tara King receives an unexpected visit from a distant relative.

Crossover with The Avengers. More properly Jason King (the sequel serial), but still excellent - Jason King is, as it turns out, distantly related to Tara King - and every so often, they can find ways to help each other out.

(There are no works for The Power Game not by me, but I'll stop moaning now. ;-p)

I'm very tired (again) but I should mention [community profile] fandomtrees, which went live all of 3 days ago. Under mine, I found:

* 3 Janeway icons from [personal profile] kingstoken

* [personal profile] liadt gave me some actual non-blurry pics of James Maxwell in the burninated Nigel Kneale TV play The Road here and also lovely fanart for the coffee shop bit of the AU Meme for Silver (& Liz Shaw).

* A lovely selection box of Blake's 7 icons from [personal profile] zephron1, so I need to decide which one(s) to use. I think I must find space for the Vila & Servalan one at the very least!

* and last but by no means least, [personal profile] hamsterwoman made me some great B7 quote icons in revenge repayment for me being the cause of them watching it earlier this year.

So, it was good fun. I did not manage to do much, but I did make [personal profile] zephron1 some Gan & Vila icons and recced some happy vids for, er, someone else. (I'm sorry, it was three days ago and I was randomly looking through the recs tag at the last minute for someone I could make a rec list for. I would know the entry again if I saw it!)
thisbluespirit: (s&s - silver)
... both fannish and good!

1. [personal profile] liadt drew some lovely fanart for my fic Half an Angel for her trick or treat thingy, so I am a very lucky person.

2. [personal profile] persiflage_1 (who also knows me well) pointed me to the news that Big Finish are doing a new audio Kaldor series that will feature both Nicola Walker's Liv Chenka and David Collings's Ander Poul.

I mean, given that it can hardly equal the epic crack that was Kaldor City, I shall no doubt be having NOT CANON feels, but for combined David Collings and Nicola Walker on Kaldor, I think I'll be able to cope. At some point in the far flung future when I can get hold of the boxset, of course, but ONE DAY.

But: !!!!! This isn't the first time someone put David Collings and Nicola Walker in an audio together, but last time it was the BBC and she just waltzed in and killed him. (Which, to be fair, is what most people do with a David Collings sooner or later, but still. This is far more exciting.)

(I was totally going to write that fic one time. I'm not sure how I feel about Big Finish writing it for me. I bet they don't get my headcanon right at all.)
thisbluespirit: (reading)
I decided on getting my bingo card last year that I would make a rec set for the square "Genderswap". And finally, after discovering some great fanworks I'd never have otherwise seen, here it is.

The works on this list are mainly Rule 63/Always Another Gender AUs with some male-to-female regeneration works for Doctor Who and bodyswap fic where the bodyswapped characters are male and female.

17 recs in 15th & 16th C Hist RPF, Angel, Arthurian Myths, Babylon 5, Blake's 7, Doctor Who, The Flash, Jane Eyre, Lord of the Rings, Pride & Prejudice, Red Dwarf, Shakespeare, The West Wing, The White Queen )
thisbluespirit: (s&s)
So, as I said, [community profile] fandom_stocking went live and I had a lot of lovely things in mine!

I had some gifs, recs, puzzles, and best wishes, but also fab Brig/Liz fanart from [profile] paynesgray, and a glorious Bayeux Tapestry style illustration for We'll Burn That Barn When We Come To It by [personal profile] liadt. (If you enjoyed the fic, you really want to see the art!!)

Plus, lovely Jonathan Creek icons from [personal profile] tarlanx.

And in terms of fic, I was underservedly lucky - just look at all these, and they were all great in very different ways! *flails about*

more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, PG by [personal profile] rain_sleet_snow (The Quiet Gentleman/The Grand Sophy, five times fic, with Drusilla, Sophy and supernatural goings on.)

The rest were all on AO3 so I will share the links for your convenience. I recommend them all very much indeed! I am still all overcome.

I haven't even had a chance to look at other fic in the collection!

thisbluespirit: (s&s - silver)
I did manage to do some small things for [community profile] fandom_stocking at least (literally small - all icons and drabbles, saving one recs list!), but as ever, I have pulled out far more than I put in, which seems unfair. Here are my very lovely gifts:

* A great little multi-Element S&S fic: Narwhals by [personal profile] kaffy_r.

* Coffee Break by [personal profile] paynesgrey, ficlet featuring Kathryn Janeway and her actual true love - coffee.

* A lovely Snow and Regina piece Sisters of the Heart by [personal profile] ariestess

* Assignment 3 1/2 by [personal profile] swordznsorcery - excellent Christmassy S&S fic that also happens to be a crossover with The Talisman Ring.

* [personal profile] liadt drew me Shadow of the Tower art which made me go awwww a lot (and you can totally see the curtain texture of the BBC costumes in it, too).

* [personal profile] john_amend_all wrote me a fab little Adam Adamant Lives! crossover with DW (Bill/Ace) here

* my absurdly practical robin by [personal profile] rain_sleet_snow, which is five times fic for Drusilla from The Quiet Gentleman, one of my favourite Heyer characters, and it's also lovely.

Plus, some greetings and pics and a very tantalising IOU from [personal profile] purplecat!

Anyway, I loved going through it all so much. People are very kind. <3
thisbluespirit: (s&s - ot3)
1. The same someone who left nice comments on my S&S fic a couple of weeks ago, has now also done some lovely fanart of Snow White, Blood Red over on their Deviant Art. Nobody's ever tried to illustrate my fics before, so I am all aflail at this & so pleased that she liked it that much. (I liked that one, too.)

2. It seems to be Yuletide already, oh noes... Trying to narrow down nominations is always the difficult bit. Do I want this hopelessly obscure British TV show or that one? How do I secretly manage to persuade someone to write James Maxwell fic for me? (I know, I can't, but people have twice now. It has unduly encouraged me.) Will anyone else nom the things I hope they will? Or in short, here we go again in the lead up to what is always my very favourite fandom event of the year. \o/

3. I still have an unfinished Fandom Stocking/NYR WIP. Whoops. Maybe if I can stop doing family history now and get my spoons back? MAYBE.

4. Other important things I have forgotten. Sorry. Also not yet much commenting, sorry. Soon. (It takes a while to get back to properly functioning levels if I do stuff like the Newspaper Archive searching. But I need to post).
thisbluespirit: (s&s - ot3)
Well, it did go live, and even though I think it may have been quieter than some years, I got rather a lot of nice things in my stocking!

[personal profile] liadt wrote me Public Eye fic, If I had a Million Pounds and posted a small picspam of James Maxwell from a thing called The Prison. (It looks like a great source for if I wanted Copper-related pics of him.) I also had a picspam from [personal profile] dunderklumpen, who went to all the trouble of finding pics of my random favourite old TV actors for me here.

Clocket made me a brilliant bit of art of Frank Marker; [personal profile] finisterre made me some old TV icons & [personal profile] rosied found me a link to a huge list of genealogy blogs, so I should be able to find something interesting in there.

Also there was more fic! It's been a bumper holiday season for Sapphire & Steel, that's for certain.

I had The Bright Side of Time (Silver, Sapphire, the TARDIS, Clara & Twelve) by [personal profile] kaffy_r, Something Hungry Under the Stone (Silver) by [personal profile] annariel, and Just Passing Through (Silver/Liz) by [personal profile] john_amend_all.

Thank you, everyone! ♥

I did manage to write three little ficlets, as follows under the cut, but I'm sorry I couldn't do more!

Ficlets in New Tricks, OUaT & Historical RPF )
thisbluespirit: (dw - amy)
1. [livejournal.com profile] violetcreme made lovely cover art for my House of Eliott Bea/Jack ficlet, which I don't think anyone's done before!

2. A very entertaining post I found in my meanderings about why Miss Marple is awesome. (Because obviously, she is. I just watched an old ITV Dracula in which Van Helsing was patronising to Joan Hickson as a fluttery old lady. It was awful and wrong.)

3. A Ficathon Walked Into A Bar has returned from the dead! Sign-ups can be found at [community profile] intoabar or [livejournal.com profile] intoabar. I've been wanting to do it ever since I found out about it, but it was deceased by that time. And since the rules are pretty much "random crossover meeting in 500 words or more" I think even I can cope, since that's the kind of thing I write anyway.

further waffling )

4. ... and so then I wrote a Miss Marple meets Dracula ficlet for [livejournal.com profile] fan_flashworks in revenge for the 1960s TV. Just to prove the point.

5. Anyway, it's open, and it should be fun. And just looking at the LJ version brought up a Chalet School fic I didn't know existed! I'm having a sort of craving for new Chalet School fic, which is because I am really bad still at reading anything offline that isn't a CS book, but I've read the whole lot (very slowly) twice in two years now and I can't do it again. I hope. Also because I'm miffed that lots of the fill-in books cost £80 on Amazon, which would be the ideal solution. *sigh* (What if I went to [livejournal.com profile] freudesheim and said "Let's have a ficathon!"? Do you think there is anybody left there? *sigh again*)

6. Also, thanks, LJ, I suddenly seem to have 6 extra loyalty icons appear in the last few days for reasons beyond my understanding, so now I need to re-upload my CS and HoE icons. I have already instantly used it to have at least one more [livejournal.com profile] sallymn masterpiece and G'Kar. (I don't know how fannish I will be about Babylon 5 yet, though I enjoyed it v much, but obviously my life would be incomplete without a G'Kar icon.) (I'm pretty sure I'm not imagining things! I know I had only one icon space left and was deliberating over what to use it for and whether to delete other things and then suddenly I had 7 spaces left. Or maybe this is an alternate universe with only very slight changes...)

7. I am reasonably sure I had something else to say, possibly something more sensible. Oh, yes. I am, for the time being, feeling a bit better again, at last. :-)
