An icon batch I was waiting to post until I'd done the latest [community profile] retro_icontest challenge, and then nearly forgot about! Most of these have probably been posted here before, although not the [community profile] retro_icontest The7Days challenge to icon seven different angles from the last seven things you watched. The angles were above, below, left, right, back, front, artist's choice. Plus, all the icons I made recently to complete [community profile] 100fandomicons and [community profile] retro_icontest's Island Rumble round, making icons from the same two screencaps & some alts.

I started this on 27th Feb 2021 for [community profile] 100fandomicons and have finally completed it, after taking longer than anybody else ever has, which I suppose is one claim to fame. (You can see the fandoms if you hover over the icons.)

[profile] swordzsnorcery also asked for Spaceships:

1. Liberator
2. The TARDIS
3. Star Bug (it's cute)

At this point, though I do like spaceships, I'm not sure I'm attached to any others in the same way?

4. Padme's ship in SW (it's really elegant, I like it)
5. Voyager, maybe? The Millennium Falcon? I don't know.

[personal profile] liadt asked Top 5 humorous reads? I read less humorous things generally, because it takes up a lot of energy to manage to read, even more to feel, and getting my sense of humour to work on top of that is never guaranteed. Anyway, moaning aside, these are therefore almost all very old favourites, but they all still make me smile:

1. The Truth - Terry Pratchett (Discworld, generally, but that's my favourite of the series, probably)
2. PG Wodehouse (there's no point specifying, almost any Wodehouse will do, although I have a particular soft spot for Blandings)
3. The Tough Guide to Fantasyland - Diana Wynne Jones
4. High Rising - Angela Thirkell (made me laugh even while ill; it must be good)
5. Sprig Muslin - Georgette Heyer (Heyer's usually more low-level amusing/witty, but she does have some very funny set-pieces in quite a few of her novels, and the bit where everyone finally catches up with Gareth, Hester, Amanda and Hildebrand (and all their lies) at the inn is a very good one, with a few other smaller funny bits in the run up.)

[profile] trobodora wanted Top 5 TV shows:

A tough choice - TV is my medium at the moment, and, in terms of fandom at least, always has been:

1. Doctor Who (despite everything)
2. Public Eye (I was tempted to make it #1 because it probably deserves it, and also I don't like DW at the minute, but I didn't.)
3. Sapphire & Steel
4. Blake's 7
5. Spooks | MI5

But it is very hard to narrow it down only to five, and not even by category.

For [personal profile] hamsterwoman - How about top 5 Babylon 5 characters

This question is a bit like the fruit one - #1 is G'kar, then everyone else, who I like pretty evenly. (More evenly than I like all non-banana fruit, though.) I shall try, however, but it is a bit arbitrary:

1. G'kar
2. Vir
3. Delenn
4. Londo
5. Susan

I decided on getting my bingo card last year that I would make a rec set for the square "Genderswap". And finally, after discovering some great fanworks I'd never have otherwise seen, here it is.

The works on this list are mainly Rule 63/Always Another Gender AUs with some male-to-female regeneration works for Doctor Who and bodyswap fic where the bodyswapped characters are male and female.

17 recs in 15th & 16th C Hist RPF, Angel, Arthurian Myths, Babylon 5, Blake's 7, Doctor Who, The Flash, Jane Eyre, Lord of the Rings, Pride & Prejudice, Red Dwarf, Shakespeare, The West Wing, The White Queen )

1. [community profile] fic_corner is still taking nominations, for those who are interested!

2. A couple of months ago, I tried to rec a B5 vid, All Is Not Lost, but the link had died - but the vidder kindly let me know that it's now back, so let me attempt to rec it again (probably a repeat rec anyway, but always worthwhile) - see here.

3. Another vid which I just saw this morning: an amazing Minerva McGonagall vid.

(I feel like there have been more things I meant to link to lately, but that is all for now.)

A few more bits and pieces before I get back to nicer things (and what a week, everyone, :-/), like those ficlets I owe people:

1. Judging by some of the comments I think I wasn't clear in my last post (as ever), here's the thing: I had a think and changed my mind about everything ever and so am going to be mainly based on Dreamwidth from now on because a) enough has happened to make me feel uncomfortable about supporting LJ by giving them any more money (at the very least) and b) the only way to deal with the stress/upset induced by regular LJ apocalypses is to lose it on my own terms and in the most positive way possible - by putting something in its place. I think not something better than LJ as-it-was, because those times have gone, but, feeling like a person who has finally woken up, I hope maybe better than LJ as-it-is now, and that would be something. Why not be quixotically optimistic, I suppose?

But I'm still cross-posting and keeping any commitments I've made, and if I do anything drastic, it would only be to switch off commenting this side to try and break the habit, and nothing more yet (or not without very good reason; I reserve the right to change my mind as often as I need). (Turns out that when it comes to going down with the ship, I want the ship to be fully worth it, and I'm not all that keen on drowning after all.) It will take some work, because the only way to make a proper network is investing in some of the active comms and things like that, though, and that will no doubt swallow many of my online spoons (there's a weird metaphor), so I will no doubt be a little quieter LJ-side as a result, but I've no intention of losing touch with people.

If I don't have you over here already, then please do friend me, or tell me where to find you. I'm aware I was kind of putting my head in the sand all the last few times we went through this, so I probably have still missed out some people.

2. Picked from multiple people in the scuffle, and this is nifty even if you only use your Dreamwidth account occasionally - you can claim your open ID (if you want) and then it magically connects up any of your imported comments on your own or other journals with your actual account. (It was no trouble to do, so I thought I'd pass that on.)

3. I don't know what I'll do in May - Apocabingo or O&B or what. We'll see how the world, online and offline is, or maybe my b'day plans will involve collapsing somewhere and being quiet, online at least. (Offline, my two actual rl bffs are coming to see me at the same time, or they should be. *crosses everything*)

4. Last but certainly not least, I was flipping through my bookmarks for vids this morning, and was reminded of this and it feels like a very good vid for this week. It's my favourite Babylon 5 vid I've seen, so let's end with a positive:

All Is Not Lost (follow the links to watch via download. It's worth it, I promise. I'm pretty sure I've recced it before, but a good thing is always worth as many more recs as it needs.)
(ETA: Alas, it seems the links have broken!)

(Hopefully, as of next post, normal babbling and fannish service will be resumed!)

I'm tired, so I turned to the Unconventional Courtship Generator to amuse me and had to share again. I'm sorry, but I mean, you want to know all about that time Tegan had to edit the Fourth Doctor's epic erotic novel, surely . . .

That and the time a Dalek got together with an alien banana )

I started this ages ago & then found it again just now, and have finished it off & here it is! (I think I'd done it because I only semi-did this meme last time, and then everyone else did it properly and I thought I should too. Looking at the results, obviously I was right.)

Cora Mills (OUaT)
G'Kar (Babylon 5)
Twelfth Doctor
Ace (DW)
Steel (Sapphire & Steel)
Miss Marple
Liz Shaw (DW)

Silver (S&S)
Belle (OUaT)

And the resulting questions )
thisbluespirit: (s&s - ot3)
I finished watching S1 of Babylon 5 about a week and a half ago (and the first two eps of S2) - then Legend of the Seeker S2 turned up (my voucher, it is all gone now, sadly) and I was instantly distracted by the sunshine and magic and pretty, so I'm watching that now. It is February here, after all. Also because I'm very much liking B5 and I don't think I want to race through it too fast; it wants thought and things.

Anyway, yes, I am liking it. Whoever said about G'Kar, yes, I like him too. (A lot. There was a whole spate of episodes without him; it wasn't good enough). The only thing I don't like is that in S2 they have replaced Na'Toth with someone who is not as good. (I sulk at her when she comes on. But it's only been two episodes, I'll probably stop that soon. Maybe.)

The thing is, though, why did nobody warn me it's really not the thing to watch after you've spent 18 months obsessing about Sapphire and Steel and happen to be particularly freaked out by Assignment 6?

Let me explain:

I don't think any of this is spoilery, but under a cut in case )

* In other news, it turns out that "quite" is a dangerous and complicated word that should be used online only with care and context.

* Oh, and for my [community profile] unconventionalcourtship story, it does occur to me that I should probably rewatch at least Assignment 3, episode 3. *sigh* How terrible. How will I stand the pain of watching Silver play with lightbulbs and annoy Steel on rooftops and in cupboards again? (This will end up with me watching at least parts of ep4 and 6 again and probably going round drawing little hearts round my weird OT3. But I'll do it in my head; you won't notice. ♥)

* Oh, and, fairly obviously, from me getting S2, I liked Legend of the Seeker. It's... probably terrible in some ways, but it doesn't matter one bit. It has magic and likeable leads and pretty and sunshine. And in S1, by the end, they'd perfected the art of the group hug and had usually at least one per episode. (In S2, they have another character who is less amenable to group hugging, but I'm sure if they'd had more series, they'd have got to the state of nation-wide hugs, probably including the villain.) What? I'm sorry; I might do a serious review of something someday soon. I am being a little unfair to it with my frivolity as well. Sorry. And I have a mildly amusing story about me looking for fanvids while waiting for S2, but I can't tell it in this post, because you can't do the spoiler-cut on Dreamwidth.
