Still catching up!

Day 5

In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Some comms of my own:

[community profile] tardis_library - a Doctor Who reccing comm, made as a successor (but different from) the lovely [community profile] calufrax (now inactive, but with an amazing backlist that is still one of the best ways to get at gems from the Teaspoon Archive) - recs from all corners of the Whoniverse, posted anywhere, and in any media format. I'm so pleased with how this has taken off - more people & more recs are always welcome!

[community profile] historium which I have just set up as a central hub for all history fandoms, whether RPF or fictional to meet, post stuff, or use as a launching pad to set up more specific comms. It's had a great beginning & I need to get back to it once I am a little more recovered.

[community profile] tic_tac_woe or Apocabingo - a panfandom mini bingo challenge (using a tic tac toe 3x3 card) with all apocalyptic prompts! No deadlines, just sign up for a card & then end worlds/countries etc. or save them as you wish. (Fictionally, obviously.)

[community profile] who_allsorts - as an extra, because I meant to only include three, but I've a soft spot for this one. It's another Doctor Who community - an old-school prompt table with claiming, but with bite-sized tables. You can sign up for up to two at once and claims are very flexible (anyone can make the same claim, pairings/characters/eras/themes are all accepted, so you can choose how wide or narrow to make it). I created it with the object of enabling more DW content of all kinds, and I still think the prompt tables are very pretty!

Not-by-me communities:

[community profile] hc_bingo - still my favourite bingo, despite frequently being terrified by the prompts! It's very flexible about interpretation of prompts, and fills can be comfort, or hurt, or hurt/comfort as you please, and any fanworks are eligible. It runs once a year, but there are fun amnesty challenges and you only need to create one fanwork a year to stay eligible for the next round. It's been the perfect excuse to write a lot of things, and I've really enjoyed the Amnesty challenges when I've taken part. (Which are open to anyone if that works for you better than a bingo.)

[community profile] fic_rush - we need to sort ourselves out for another round soon, but this 48 hour actual ficathon (i.e. writing marathon) has been a wonderful supportive & social ingredient of my journalling life ever since I first plucked up the courage to join. There are ninja penguins, alien fish, glowsticks, and writerly pasta and attempts at galactic domination, but you don't have to worry about that. I mean, until and unless the penguins get you...

I enjoy recs and reccing comms, the main two of which I follow here are [community profile] fancake (though I never can get myself together to post for a theme) and [community profile] gensplosion for gen recs (which I have recced for, but am bad at doing), both of which have led me to some excellent fic, and both of which are panfandom.

There are so many comms I like! Here are, quickly, some more:

[community profile] who_at_50 (general DW comm, despite the name)

Bingos - [community profile] ladiesbingo, [community profile] trope_bingo, [community profile] allbingo and [community profile] genprompt_bingo. (Of these I particularly like [community profile] genprompt_bingo (which takes any kind of fills, despite the name, it's just that the prompts are gen prompts) but they're all good in their different ways.)

Icons - [community profile] iconthat, [community profile] icontalking, [community profile] icon_library, [community profile] icons10in20, [community profile] icons & [community profile] fandom_icons. (A mix of challenge and general posting comms.)

Which is probably enough from me, but I still like comms. And that's even before we get to all the exchanges or my other comms I run or co-mod...

As promised/threatened I have now written the square "Killer plants" for [community profile] tic_tac_woe for Enemy at the Door. I'm not sure what it says that I can only be cheerful in this fandom if I'm doing an apocalyptic AU, but there you go. I had probably too much fun and am a terrible person (but it is only a cardboard 70s show peopled by character actors, after all, no matter how well-researched and sad it may be).

We Plough the Fields and Scatter (3518 words) by lost_spook

(Also I have no immediate plans to write any more EatD for a bit, so that's something. Or not, as the case may be, for the tiny handful of us that know it.)

1. [community profile] hetswap has nominations open till 3rd Feb. (I expect not to be able to sign up, but I did nominate some things just in case. It was fun last year, and this year's mod looks a little more on the ball, too, so I'm not ruling things out yet.)

2. Sign-ups are ongoing to Monday for [community profile] worldbuildingex. (Which I haven't ever done because lack of brain, but seems v cool).

3. Let me pimp my own ongoing challenge comms, since I seem unlikely to be running ficathons any time soon: [community profile] who_allsorts, which is basically an old-style claims comm for Doctor Who but with many mini prompt tables ranging from sets of 3-20, fairly wide and laid back options on claiming (character/ship/era or theme if you prefer to mix it up character/pairing-wise) and you can make fills in any fanwork type. And I'm very proud of my pretty prompt sets. (Some of which, of course, came courtesy of you lot.)

Also [community profile] tic_tac_woe (aka apocabingo), the Apocalyptic mini bingo challenge! (Each card has nine apocalyptic prompts: get your bingo by destroying/saving the world at least three times in a row - all fandoms and origfic welcome, ditto all fandom types. The end of the world is an equal opportunity experience here. ;-p)

(I'm sorry, my DW/LJ is v frivolous and always has been and there we are).

Now that I've posted that AAL! fic and one more Runaway Tales effort today, then not only have I achieved a bingo for [community profile] trope_bingo (even if it was probably too late to actually count), I have posted my stray [community profile] hc_bingo fills over there for amnesty, and now my stray [community profile] trope_bingo fills and a bingo for [community profile] origfic_bingo!

You know what this means? I am now at liberty to destroy the world multiple times over!* (Well, and also that I probably need to write something for [community profile] genprompt_bingo and my new table for [community profile] who_allsorts at some point & both are as yet virgin fields of unfilled squares, but hey, never mind. APOCALYPSE SUMMER! Or whatever, I'm very easily distracted and I still need to write that eighteen-month overdue [community profile] fandom_stocking S&S fic, and I'd like to write some more 500 Prompts too.)

But: *\o/*

I actually have no idea what I'm doing for any of the above, though. Suggestions are always welcome, even if I may well ignore them. (Bingos are for fun and id-pursuance!) ;-p

* For [community profile] tic_tac_woe. Not really, obviously, that would be wrong.

I'll be pimping it properly from tomorrow, but it's live as of now if anyone wants to request a card or to promote it. (I have a handy banner with coding available on the comm):

I also rather nervously awarded myself a card )

(I stole the title of this post from TV Tropes, but it was hard to resist). Anyway, [personal profile] seriesfive and I are going to run an Apocalypse mini-bingo! Soon/soon-ish!

So, first off, how many ways of ending the earth/a planet/universe are there? Flist, we need your help!

Via Wikipedia, TV Tropes, my own head, various SF novels and the inventive heads of other people, we have a list as follows:

Cut for multiple ends of the world(s) )

So, what have we missed, which prompts could be combined into one square, and what would be the best names for the tropes/prompts? What do you think? (Please, do link this post around - we'd like to gauge interest as well as get people's thoughts on this.)

(We're thinking mini-bingo - 3x3 squares, probably. People will be able to have vetoes, so it's okay to have some fairly specific scenarios in the above list, although obviously most would need to be reasonably generic.)

This is just an extremely rough list as yet - many things are probably badly phrased, and not everything has to be included in the final list. If you object to either phrasing or a scenario, that's one of the things we want to know about here and why we're making this post, but please be nice to everybody when discussing the impending apocalypse, or comments will be screened or deleted. Thank you.
