Beyond the Roundels

So, in other writing news, both my treat recip and the rainbowfic mod turned up to comment and make my day at exactly the same time a couple of days ago. (Why do things all come together when they weren't at all connected?) So then I was happy.

But justmarriedexchange has now had author reveals and so here is what I wrote - a gift and a treat, both in Doctor Who.

I got senmut as my recip, which was good fun - a whole bunch of relationship tags that I liked to choose from and also they were dizzyingly rash enough to request Any Tag. (You will not be surprised to learn that given the choice of any tag in the tagset, they therefore immediately got a variant of Accidental Marriage off me, ahem, ahem.)

Anyway, I had a nice, manageable idea for Three/Brig/Liz and I do love s7 so much... and then it just grew! How did it grow? But it was also a really lovely fic to have living in my head and I'm still really pleased with how it came out and I liked the idea of the alien world involved as well.

Anyway, that was fun, and I seem to have read most of my flist's stories while we were all undercover! (I guessed lurking_latinist - thank you for the treat!! - and astrogirl, and at least suspected senmut, but I'm now laughing that I completely failed to recognise paranoidangel. Because I should always suspect paranoidangel by this time...)

But it was fun, even with that long wait in the middle! (Let's not do that part again.) And thanks as ever to persiflage_1 who beta-ed them both for me. <3

14. A pairing – platonic, romantic or sexual – that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind.

I think, as the other question established, I'm pretty open to trying out random ships or combinations to see if they work. (I mean, is that not a good part of the fun of fic? What if, what if, what if...?)

So, I'm not sure I can think of anything in the normal way, but memes, random generators and prompts have thrown up things that have wound up being accidentally great suggestions. Also sometimes some excellently appalling ones while they were at it.

I still have a bunch of suggestions from the 15 Characters Meme I treasure gleefully, and love playing with several generators. There was also an icon meme once, where you sorted your icons alphabetically and then paired them up, which was how Liz Shaw/Silver came to be a thing and sort of took on a life of its own. So, Silver/Liz, now the surprisingly large-for-S&S crossover ship is one that sails on a regular basis, at least in my vicinity. And it's a good ship! I totally recommend exploring the tag (& the platonic edition, too.)

I get so used to finding no fic I like when I poke into modern fandoms (just endless fluff and AUs and ships), that I was actually shocked when I looked into Ripper Street on AO3 and found actual multiple good fics. (I suppose it is a fandom where one of the main attractions is its use of language...)

Inspector Reid's Catalogue of Criminals by shyday (G, 6616 words. Edmund Reid, Homer Jackson, Fred Abberline.) An archive fic. Great capturing of the voices - Reid, his obsessions and dreams and his archive project. (set shortly before 3.01).

(That James Maxwell gets everywhere...!) Anyway, I was highly amused, because, you know, Steed if he was awkwardly tall, slightly shifty and didn't know what to say to people at parties.

I had some pretty icons from Scripsi, some sweet best wishes/New Year's greetings, a rec, an IOU for Chalet School fic of some kind (v exciting!), and a lovely little A Quiet Gentleman/The Grand Sophy crossover by rain_sleet_snow.

I did manage to do a bit more on the stocking-stuffing myself than last year, which was good! I'll post those in another post sometime. I didn't get to very many people, though - a rather random eight or so, including (ironically) an IOU for Chalet School fic and a joint S&S WIP (that I am at least pretty sure is going to get completed now as it has a much better scribbled out plan than it did when I posted the beginning).
