Another little ficlet for this round of [community profile] no_true_pair, this one I managed to cobble together with a context-less snippet I scribbled a while back, for the prompt "March Twenty-Eighth - Seven & William Palmer are on a boat."

I managed a little ficlet for [community profile] no_true_pair (doubling up for [community profile] 100fandoms again, as well)! I don't know if I'll do another, or at least, not before amnesty, but this one jumped up and bit me. There are so many interesting ways a crossover involving Seven and Sara Lance could go, but sometimes you just have to go for the obvious punchline.

So, last night Remix Revival went live, and I got this unexpectedly fabulous remix of a rather silly and punny Seven & Ace drabble I did for [community profile] dw100 many many moons ago. It's delightful and if you enjoy a bit of Seven 'n' Ace, you should definitely go read it.

Also: totally contains a version of Monopoly that should become a proper official thing. XD

I am a lucky so-and-so because I was also one of the few people to get a Remix Madness fic as well, remixing an obscure little humorous ficlet I wrote one Obscure & British Fest for The Sandbaggers into this lovely, thoughtful character piece:

I posted my Seventh Doctor era manifesto, such as it is, over at [community profile] tardis_library!

Now, excuse me, I have an [community profile] hc_bingo fic I might still have a reasonable chance of finishing tomorrow if I go and do some typing now...

I decided to pick up a table at [community profile] who_allsorts for the Seventh Doctor Era. (I'm trying to decide whether or not to keep or drop my other current table, because I keep not writing it, as I claimed "Historical" as a theme and keep thinking I need to write epics, which was definitely not the point. But it was a very pretty table and I have one prompt filled, so I shall probably hang onto it and work on my wrong-headedness over time.)

Anyway, the table - 6 Prompts: Classic Who Quotes

#01 – Our Destiny is in the Stars #02 – Bad Laws Were Made to be Broken #03 – Playing at Tin Soldiers
#04 – I Deny This Reality #05 – There Should Have Been Another Way #06 – A Universe of Terrors

I've been scribbling some more little 500 prompts pieces in my notebook lately, so here's one I managed to type up for [community profile] fic_rush:

Title: Run Forever
Author: [personal profile] thisbluespirit

Notes/Warnings: Spoilers for Survival.
Summary: “The planet’s gone, but it will live on inside you. It always will.”

You will be so proud of me - I wrote all the prompts! (I mean, one per person, not actually all of them.) I haven't managed that in ages, save for those AU memes.

Anyway, the last four are on AO3, with relevant details under the cut:

1. I've just done a friending meme and even actually managed to friend new people (I asked some of them myself!) (hi, new flisters!) and now of course, I am off to my parents' for Christmas, where internet access will be variable and most likely reading rather than commenting. Sorry about that.

Also because the next few posts following this will very likely be the one where I'm not here but I have to mention my Yuletide gift, the one where I'm back but exhausted, and then a wave of Yule-recs. So, um, yes, welcome? I will try and do something properly introductory in the New Year, though.

But I hope everyone who is celebrating Christmas has a lovely one, and anyone not celebrating manages to have a nice week despite any unwanted festivities! ♥

2. I nearly managed to finish the last writing meme before I went (because if I don't now, I won't) but I embarrassingly ran out of spoons with one left to go. (Sorry last person; once I cross that line, I cross that line. It was accidental!) I will have another writing meme soon enough, I'm sure. I might even get through all the prompts next time.

And here are the last three:Under the cut so as not to take up too much space )

I was feeling a bit down and so thought of doing this as maybe an occasional thing: here are five nice things I've bookmarked recently:

Third Time Pays For All by JohnAmendAll (G, 922 words, Lucy Weston/Mina Harker/John Seward.) Lucy had been vaguely expecting a confession of a clandestine love affair between her fiancé and her best friend. The truth was far stranger.

Written for me in a recent meme, this is a lovely Dracula TV 1968 fic from the prompt Lucy/Mina/John & timeloops.

Appropriately enough, two very excellent DW fics from the [livejournal.com profile] who_at_50 53rd Anniversary Fanworkathon:

The Scientific Method by nonelvis (Teen, 1723 words. Implied Liz/Brig; Liz/Kate Stewart) Five moments in the life of Elizabeth Shaw. Liz, being awesome as ever.

An Offer You Can't Refuse by Shivver (All ages, 4959 words.) Trying to recover an ailing population's stolen medical supplies, the Doctor and Ace come up empty when the smuggler's trail goes cold. Great missing adventure for Seven & Ace (never an offer I can refuse, that's for certain).

Dance Apocalyptic by thingswithwings and eruthros I really really wanna thank you for dancing to the end. Amazing multi-fandom vid about when the world is ending.

I get so used to finding no fic I like when I poke into modern fandoms (just endless fluff and AUs and ships), that I was actually shocked when I looked into Ripper Street on AO3 and found actual multiple good fics. (I suppose it is a fandom where one of the main attractions is its use of language...)

Inspector Reid's Catalogue of Criminals by shyday (G, 6616 words. Edmund Reid, Homer Jackson, Fred Abberline.) An archive fic. Great capturing of the voices - Reid, his obsessions and dreams and his archive project. (set shortly before 3.01).

Sometimes when I am thinking I'd like to write a quick ficlet, I actually remember that I have a giant list of prompts for that purpose. Amazing. Have a 500 prompts fic:

Title: Lightning Flashes
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook
Rating: All ages

Characters/Pairings: Seventh Doctor, Bernice Summerfield.

Enough of the moaning; I pulled myself together enough to make some icons over the last few days. The themes come from the icons200* thing I was doing ages ago. (I went to find it and realised I'd stopped because obviously this set had to be Seven & Ace and I needed more screencaps. And, lo, I was unwell enough not to grudge time spent screencapping last week.)

Now, what on earth to icon next...?

*I wanted a reason to icon (I fall so easily into thinking it just pointless & it's not) and picked the theme list from the now-defunct icons200 comm and was doing each installment of 10 themes + 10 artists' choice (like a 20by20), with option to swap out prompts if I didn't like them. I might continue again now sometimes.
thisbluespirit: (Default)
I actually managed to write some things for [community profile] fandom_stocking myself! I didn't get to as many people as I wanted, but that's always the way. I also managed a handful of icons and one or two other small bits, but here's the fic:

6 fics in Doctor Who, Adam Adamant Lives!, Blake's 7, & Georgette Heyer )

I also started a joint S&S fic for [personal profile] kaffy_r and [personal profile] annariel, but it got too long to be attempted for Fandom Stocking, so I'm going to work on it - it's at 2000 words now and has a better plot outline than it did when I posted it, so I'm hopeful, but it may take me a while yet.
thisbluespirit: (I Capture - writing)
Title: All the Hounds of Hell
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 2736
Characters/Pairings: Henry VII, Ace McShane, Seventh Doctor, Jasper Tudor
Notes/Warnings: Written for [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo square “culture shock” and from a random characters meme that suggested Henry VII and Ace on a date - not that this could count as a date, except possibly by certain Ace-specific definitions. (I default to The Shadow of the Tower versions, because I do, but that’s otherwise irrelevant, really.) Set sometime in Brittany in the early 1470s.
Summary: Henry Tudor is used to people wanting him dead, but they don’t usually send the hounds of hell after him to accomplish it. Luckily, there’s a very odd girl looking out for him…

Also at AO3 and the Teaspoon (when it's verified).

Another fic I found lurking in a notebook - I wrote this one for a prompt about two years ago, but could never manage to type it up, I don't know why.

Title: Little Things
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 980
Characters/Pairings: Ace, Seventh Doctor, Matilda
Notes/Warnings: None. DW/Matilda crossover.
Summary: Sometimes it’s the little things that count.

Written for a prompt left by [livejournal.com profile] seiya234 on [livejournal.com profile] dw_straybunnies: "In all three versions of Matilda-book, movie, musical – at the end, Matilda's parents have to leave in a hurry, and Matilda ends the book leaving with Miss Honey. My thought was, what if instead of dodgy business dealings/the mob/whatever that caused them to leave, the Doctor had a hand in that instead. Double points if there's a scene with him and Matilda. Triple extra points if it's the Seventh Doctor, who I had in mind."

Three more finally typed up from my birthday crossover meme. Sorry about the delay (especially given how long I've had a couple of these sitting in a notebook):

1. Cut and Dried: Inspector Japp and the Seventh Doctor (Poirot/DW) requested by [livejournal.com profile] jjpor
All ages
1,500 words.
(This was meant to be Seven and Ace, as requested, but Bernice wanted to come, too. Sorry about that.)

I keep saying that Seven is my favourite Doctor etc etc etc. But what do I ever do to prove it?

Well, I have made some icons (much too quickly, cos I wanted to be the first person to cap and icon Silver Nemesis, which was my first full Doctor Who serial, the first Target novelisation I bought, and the first video I bought. (Sadly BBC were a bit slow in releasing it, so it's not my first DVD by any means). And you know what else? The sleeve insert in the DVD, instead of being apologetic about it, as it sometimes is about these stories deemed to be 'lesser', goes and sums up what I found in it, and loved to pieces:

At the heart of this story is the programme's sense of fun. The Doctor sets about thwarting his enemies with a spring in his step, using jazz music to defeat ruthless logic and all the time whistling as he works. There really is no other hero quite like him...

It doesn't mention that Ace and the Doctor have a lovely day out, listen to jazz, watch Nazis fight scary Cybermen and then blow up things, but that also happens. (I know this is not ever going to win best story, but I still think it was a great thing to stumble onto when you were 11 or so. So I ran out with my Tescos vouchers yesterday, and this is the result. I also had to put up with some Fourth Doctor nonsense that came attached, but I daresay I can stand it...)

Anyway, I said there were icons... (I will do some more some time, less hastily, but Seven and Ace are too awesome to come out very badly, even with me making the things.)
