With many thanks to dbskyler for the extremely helpful combined beta, US-pick and moral support. (And I'm sorry - one or two bits I corrected. And then uncorrected because it sounded wrong in the character voice. And recorrected. And uncorrected... Basically, any mistakes and remaining/extra Britishicisms are my fault.)

Also thanks again to paranoidangel42 who wrote my lovely gift fic. And then left a comment on it to fool me because apparently she's also devious and cunning as well as a nifty writer of Press Gang.

Also, talking of fic exchanges and suchlike, scary but true: yuletide, the rare fanfic exchange, is having its nominations brainstorming post. Oh my. Yuletide already?!

In other news: today I rescued a bee. (The bee seemed fine, but I am still a bit shaky.) :-)

I was biting my tongue earlier because I didn't want to say anything that would hint I was your beta (although if I'd given that part away, more people would probably think you'd written the SJS fic with Turlough, LOL).

But anyway, yes, your fic really is wonderful and I'm glad I was able to be helpful! (And no need to apologize about additional corrections and etc. because of course it's your fic and you have to do what feels right to you, both before and after the beta. Besides, I do that to my betas too. *g*)

I'm not surprised that paranoidangel42 wrote your gift fic, because it seemed so perfectly suited to you, and I figured it must therefore be from someone who knows you, or else someone who did a really good job of stalking your LJ. :D

Yes, it was quite a small exchange, so it wouldn't have taken too many clues to give things away!

Aw, thanks. And it was helpful! :-) Heh. And apparently Mrs Gaskell used to do it to Charles Dickens when he edited her for the periodicals, and it drove him up the wall! We writers, we're a stubborn lot. No, I took most of your changes - there were just an odd few bits where it sounded wrong when it was right, because of the 'voice', and a couple more where I'd used the right word, but obviously not made the context clear enough, so had to correct other bits. (I always know what I mean, :lol:).

Yes, I was absolutely sure it was her for lots of reasons, and then she was so sneaky and left a review for it! I knew hhertzof or somebody else at least had also offered Press Gang. But, yes. :-) Although we do share a lot of likings for pairings and things - and share quite a number of fandoms.

ETA: I was kind of holding my breath all last Sat, because my recipient didn't comment (I noticed when attempting some stalking myself that she hadn't commented on any other gift fic she'd had, so I wasn't too surprised), but then I got a couple of reviews - and even a rec, from a really good Buffy writer. (I was so excited when that happened. I nearly PMed you, because I couldn't tell anyone else!) But, phew, and who knows, maybe she liked it, despite her aversion to comments? What can you do?

It was actually hhertzof's idea about me leaving a comment on my own fic. I was bemoaning to her the problem of this being an anonymous exchange and she said that's what she'd done one Yuletide. And I knew it would at least make you suspicious given that I said she would offer Press Gang too.

But then I was also tempted by some of your other prompts in fandoms I didn't sign up for :)
