Meanderings and Writings

I spent far too much of this morning keeping up the Grand British Tradition of queuing at the Post Office. (Well, 20 mins, but that's long enough in the Post Office queue, all because I was too dumb to renew my car tax online. Of course, if the garage had let me have my car back, that would have helped.)

Anyway, I am startlingly up to date with most things aside from emails to non-virtual friends and able to maybe do a bit of writing without guilt, once I finish playing around with memes here.

Fics and things:

I have my tardis_genchallenge (say no more). It's already taken off, although I need a solution to my question.

My 1851 story is finally taking shape and I'm enthusiastic. Provided the above story doesn't kill this, as it will also need research of a sort. If I make a sensible start, I should be all right. I have swiped Anne Perry's Inspector William Monk, which will be fun and a challenge. Not strictly a crossover, but it was always going to be a mystery, so that will help. He and Tegan will have much pleasure insulting each other. I am doing lots of reading Anne Perry, Judith Flander's Consuming Passions (it's about Leisure in Victorian England, okay!) and The Age of Paradox. Plus, I think watching North and South will help. (Hmm, yes, I should actually do some writing...)

Plus, I want to write the recipient 3 as well as 1. Oh dear.

I must do Six/Evelyn for my Love and Science drabbles, but I'm avoiding chocolate cake and the one idea I had threatened to turn into a proper story. And Nyssa/Damon for Happy Endings, which now has a title (A Garden on Gallifrey).

Poor Eight and Charley are now waiting for me to come back to two stories.

Edit: Oh, and next week I'm reccing on calufrax - scary, exciting and do you realise how few fics seven is? I have a list that I've narrowed down to about 12 or so. It's painful. Plus, two of my faves got recced the week before last. Which obviously gives me more room, but still... Eek.

Well yeah! I did build the hutch to keep the bunnies in after all! I just didn't expect them to learn how to open said door. They only go into the hutch when they want to sleep (and that's rarely when *I* want to sleep!)

Hello, there! Thought I'd pop by and comment, too!

I am very much looking forward to seeing the fic that come from tardis_gen. There are going to be so many exciting things to read in the near future!

I really need to watch some of Five and Six. I feel like I'm missing out on a whole great section of Doctor Who!

Yes, you need to have the full set of Doctors. Of course, I don't know whether you'll like them, but I am completely with the Brig on them being "Splendid chaps, all of them." So you do, yes. And if you can (I know they're not always easy to get hold of) the Six audios are particularly good.

*g* Well, the Brig is a good judge of character. I have heard good things about Six audios. I saw one of his episodes (the HG Wells related one... I'm dreadful with titles) and it was good, but not a favorite of mine. Five I still haven't seen any of, so that needs to be remedied soon!

Oh! You've seen Timelash!! Death by tinsel and invasion by glove puppet. With Richard III. I have a liking for nonsense, so I quite enjoy it, but it's probably the one that most often get's labelled Six's worst story. Heh.

It's very hard to think which Six story to recommend because they seem to divide people quite a lot. I love Vengeance on Varos - it's a clever idea and Sil is brilliant. But loads of people don't like that either. The audios, though - I haven't heard a duff Six one yet and Evelyn is great.

Five is a lot easier. Things like Castrovalva, Black Orchid, Earthshock, Kinda, Snakedance, Enlightenment, Frontios, Caves of Androzani - all very good. And you do have to do The Five Doctors one day, because it's just a party. :-)

Generally, the 80s viewing advice would be: Don't watch things with Time in the title!! :lol: But personally, I say, watch whatever takes your fancy. ;-)

Yes! Yep, that was it. Timelash. Worst story, huh? I thought it was okay. I enjoyed Herbert coming along for the adventure! ;-) And I really do need to "meet" Evelyn soon. Everyone speaks so highly of her!

I have a few of those (including The Five Doctors) so it's just a matter of getting to them. For some reason, Five has been the most difficult for me to find serials to watch.

LOL. I haven't heard that before, but it seems like really good advice. I will keep that in mind!

Oh, you must dig out The Five Doctors. Really only 3 Doctors, an impersonator and a dummy, but you know, still...). Patrick Troughton steals the show! And if you have the one they brought out last year, the extras are lovely. (Actually, that's my favourite thing about Five's DVDs - the commentaries are priceless. Anything that has Peter and Janet is so much fun.)

Thinking now, maybe The Mark of the Rani might be a good place to start with Six. The Master, the Rani and a historical setting. (The Rani's lack of patience for the Doctor and the Master's feud is great. George Stephenson, too!)

Oooo, yes. The serials with The Rani are high on my list of episodes to watch! That might be a good place to jump in then!
