Yuletide!

Yuletide assignments went out while I was sleeping yesterday, so I woke up to see everyone being pleased with their on my flist. I went off to see mine with much trepidation, but, yay, I can also join the happy chorus, for I matched on not one but two fandoms, both of which are things I could write - one even has optional details mentioning minor characters I like quite a lot, so at the moment, I'm planning on that one. So: \o/

And my Dear Author, if you see this: I am sorry about my letter. It was honestly meant to be shorter and more straight-forward this year. It wasn't, especially not the Chalet School bit, which I meant to go back and edit, but... speedy assignments are speedy!

Also, irrelevantly, I have been having one of my intermittent spurts of going back through Teaspoon (alphabetically by author) and trying to actually find and bookmark the things I read five years ago that I thought were really good. I do end up trying to Read All The Things, though sometimes, which is not helpful, especially when most of the time I can barely read anything. (Although definitely better this time!) Anyway, I'd just like to say that Teaspoon's profiles being at the top of the author's pages are very helpful. Everytime I find a misspelt one, one that's longer than the list of fics, or one that gushes on and on* solely about one ship or actor, I can backbutton swiftly. Helps such a lot. ;-p

That said... fan fiction really can be fun, can't it? And pretty marvellous. I had better stop with the bookmarking temporarily. It's taken me from 2010 to get to K. I'm not going to reach Z by tomorrow even if I get really silly about it.

Anyway, incidentally, going through stuff made something click about two possible stories - I might, might just be able to get my two bingos done, who knows? (It's fic_rush next weekend, so...)

* "gushing on and on in your Teaspoon profile" being the key here, before anyone takes offence. Everybody loves a ship and/or an actor/character sometimes. I should know. :-)

Reading this, I realized that I could not for the life of me remember what my Teaspoon profile said. So I want and looked, and it's pithy, but rather dated. I really should edit it. :)

I can pull a list of stories you left comments on from my database if that would help you out.

Glad to know you're happy - it's good that *someone* is since I am so very not...

And so you should! Honestly, that wasn't a criticism - I'm really glad that you've got an assignment that will give you pleasure to write...

Yeah it's been a bad week both at work and personally.

No problem. It definitely would not be complete. Though I can send it after the fact, if you want to cross-check your bookmarks against it when you have finished the big perusal of Teaspoon. :)

PS: I finally got my act together and drew a graph using my GraphViz software! It was for a different data set but it has also rekindled my desire to represent all of Teaspoon authors in one big pretty SVG file.

*nods*

*hugs back* I do - though given how very bad my knee is today, I've no idea how much it'll help. Idiot Features made me do 3 hours of pressing yesterday - the absolute worst thing for my knee - and today my knee's too stiff to bend properly, my left hip is aching, and my left foot is cramping... I hardly slept last night because the pain was so bad.

Ah, that explains those reviews the other day :-)

Heh, no, wasn't checking to make sure it met your standards or anything -- I have slightly more self-confidence than that -- but because I was suddenly curious as to what it said! And, oh, yeah, I know all about the kind of profiles that save you the bother of ever, ever reading the fic. Heck, I ought to make use of that tool more, myself.

I do love all the Who! I did delete the bit in mine that said I'd just caught up on copying my fic from LJ to the archive, because that was, uh, several years ago now. But I left that part. I'm rather pleased with that part. :)

If you're going to really love Who, I think you kind of have to love the bad along with the good, dodgy special FX and all. :)

Somehow, that never seemed to happen with my mother. She'd sit in the living room doing needlepoint or whatever while my sister and I were watching, and not seem interested at all, except to make occasional disparaging comments about how "goofy" the show was and how she didn't know how we could watch it... But then, every once in a while, she'd make some comment or ask some question that demonstrated she actually was paying rather a lot of attention. (E.g: "I liked the first Romana better." or "Why is his granddaughter named Susan if she's an alien?") Then there was that one time we weren't home and she watched it anyway... :)

*clings* He really is a complete and utter idiot.

My knee's a bit less stiff today - and I slept a bit better last night, thank gods.

because I didn't watch it till I was 11, so me and my sister watched it by ourselves.

Heck, I was considerably older than that! But the big TV was in the living room, and my mother always wanted to sit in there doing her sewing stuff.

my sister ran out of the room when the Cybermen appeared in Silver Nemesis and refused to come back for a year, even when I told her they'd been defeated.

That is adorable. :)

It's very distracting when you've been holding your breath all week to see how the cliff-hanger was going to be resolved.

Oh, argh, yes, that sort of thing is highly annoying when you really just want to immerse yourself in what you're watching. My family used to do that too often while I was trying to watch Star Trek, as I recall.
