Here are some more I made earlier! Yes, as obscure as ever: icons from the 1973/4 Richard Lester films The Three Musketeers and The Four Musketeers. (I hear there are other versions, but I just don't want to know.) Featuring: Oliver Reed, Michael York, Richard Chamberlain, Raquel Welch, Faye Dunaway, Christopher Lee, Spike Milligan, Roy Kinnear, and Charlton Heston.

(Yes. It is awesome. Even with the whole dodgy bit where they didn't get paid for the second film.)

OMG, JUST WHAT I WANTED IN MY LIFE, NO SERIOUSLY. both movies/the one movie that would have been ridiculously long if they hadn't chopped it in two are great! and i really like a lot of these icons, with the cutting and the lighting - the constance ones are beautiful, but i think the one that will for definite be joining my icon ranks is the athos one, because oliver reed is great, and athos isgreat, and i really like the way the writing follows the line of his hat :D

Who's the guy who plays D'Artagnan? Because to me he looks exactly like Star-Wars-era Mark Hamill, but I am guessing that's not who he is.

These are seriously two of my favorite movies and if you ever want to do more (like of that lovely fighting sequence in the opening credits) I will be extremely happy.

I still haven't seen this (these) movie(s). I really should.

(Incidentally, I am reminded that there's a Doctor Who spin-off novel called Managra that features a future theme park populated by clones of famous historical figures like Lord Byron and Casanova and Cardinal Richelieu and so on. And because it's a theme park they decided if they were going to have Richelieu they should have the Musketeers as well, so they cloned them from the cast of this movie.)

:-D I thought I would make some, cos I couldn't find v many & I noticed doing Yuletide that a fair no of people requesting the Three Musketeers fic specified 'the book, or Richard Lester version'. I did not know there was appreciation here on my flist. :-D

Yes, Oliver Reed is great. He does not look like the Athos of the book, but he is so very Athos it does not cross the mind. On the other hand, I am prone to think that Michael York does not actually exist and merely rode out of the novel. (But this is only because I never saw him in anything else. :lol:) I watched this film when I had just read the book for the first time, and discovered how funny the book was. I was sooo convinced no film could be as good, because they would not be funny, even if they managed everything else. So, well, you can imagine... ♥

And, thank you!! I will have to do some more. I have lots of caps from both, esp The Four Musketeers, but I thought this was enough for one batch. There will definitely be more Athos as he gets more to do in the second one.

:lol: I can kind of see the resemblance in these pics, but they do not look much alike properly! As everyone has said, D'Artagnan is played by Michael York, who was a bit of a 70s heartthrob. Well, my Mum had a crush on him, anyway...

Oh, yes, so; they're pretty good, and have the right mix of genuine swashbuckle and ridiculousness that the book has, even if they do of course still change things.

I do remember reading Managra, but I didn't notice that! I don't think I liked that one v much at all, but that is quite amusing so it now gets one point back in its favour for Richard Lester Musketeers actually existing. Because these are the proper versions, obviously. ;-D

Hee. Well, I like them as you can tell. (Look at the cast. Did you see that cast? Um. Maybe it is more impressive if you are British? ;-D) I'm just slightly amused because for me Michael York exists solely as D'Artagnan. :-)

It did cross my mind when I was making them that you might be the one person on my flist who'd know what I was on about. (Turns out, of course, there were more). Glad they could cheer you up! (Actually, what you could do with right now, when people threaten your library is a little of that Mind Robber ability to summon up characters - D'Artagnan and the Three Musketeers should fight your corner. (Of course, they might be a little trouble to house and feed... :lol:)

Yes, but this version has Charlton Heston! ;-p I know, I know, I always think I should watch some other versions - I like seeing what different bits different productions focus on, but I have such a soft spot for these two 70s films, I can't quite bring myself to see other people as these characters. (Athos not being played by Oliver Reed? Blasphemy!!)

Oh, believe me, that cast is impressive regardless of where you're from! Michael York for me is usually either Logan or Tybalt (I know Logan much better). And of course, he's also King Arthur... :)

As you can see, I did till now. I think we were all a bit distracted as I watched it at for homework with my 2 sisters and while the little one loved it, middle sis wound up in floods of tears because she hadn't known it was going to be sad (and was cross we thought it was funny she hadn't known...) Aww.

Though, I hate to point it out, you've misspelt D'Artagnan in that icon. (Sorry.) You've written it "Dartagnan".

And, yes. I would fix it right off, but I have a bad habit of deleting my bases once I'm done - I'll try and remember when I do another batch! (Althought at the moment, I am rather amazed that was the only error, as my head is a strange place right now. Stranger than usual...)

Heh, go right ahead, please! :-) I don't have many fellow fans of Georgette Heyer, the Carry Ons or the Chalet School on my flist (though there are one or two). And, yes, it is Jim Dale and Angela Douglas, but from Carry on Cowboy. I made rather an epic lot of Cowboy icons when I was starting out here. I haven't yet got to Screaming, but I do have it capped & definitely will sometime. :-D

The other thing I considered mentioning, but decided to cut for pacing, was that they cloned multiples of the most popular historical figures, including Richelieu, but all the Richelieus started scheming against one another and by the time the story starts there's only one left.

LOL See, it is inevitable. If I had only not disliked Managra so, I could have looked this up in my copy I once had. But there it is. It went on the Car Boot Sale of Disapproval. :-)
