The inevitable result of the tumblr purge is, of course, that I made a comm, even if it wasn't wise:



Please do take a look, tell me what I have missed/done wrong or anything else I should put in the intro/rules, and feel free to join! I'll pimp it about soon.

I would also be very glad of a co-mod, if anyone is interested. It's a general comm, so it hopefully shouldn't be too arduous. I need to work out a sensible tagging method as yet, but I think otherwise it's fairly straightforward.

Well, fingers crossed it won't need much modding, as it's a general comm, but I think having a few mods around is always healthy for a comm! (Modly duties include trying to answer questions, make tags when needed, and in theory if the worst comes to the worst ban people or freeze/screen comments if necessary, although I've never yet had to do that! And it would only be literally if someone started harassing someone/openly using hatespeech/trolling etc.)

Well, that depends on what they ask! I think modding is mainly just a mix of common sense, tagging, and changing things when people point out all the obvious mistakes you made when you set the comm up, but that bit is my fault in this case.

Also you can always make posts to keep things lively if it starts getting quiet and so on. Or not, as you choose!

Modding an event is more specific - modding a general comm is usually more hands off unless something goes wrong or tags need adding.

Well, LJ has nearly ten years on Dreamwidth and was far more active at its peak, whereas DReamwidth has been where LJ exiles go to and take their now-inactive comms to be safe! So, yeah. LJ always has something left over from back in the day.

Hopefully the comm will be useful! We'll see. Maybe you can meet some new French history people. :-)

It just occurred to me that if you haven't modded a comm before, you might not be aware that you have options to alter the settings and tags. If you go to the Dreamwidth homepage and click 'Organize' it will list Communities - there you can alter settings, privacy, the style etc. (You can set a sticky post under 'Display' and 'Privacy' is where you can go to, say, turn off anon commenting if we start getting spammed or anything.)

You can add tags to people's posts by clicking 'edit tags' on the post itself, but if you need to correct a tag or create one without a post, again, go to 'Organize' choose 'tags' and when it brings it up change user from auroracloud to historium and you can rename, delete or create tags.

Maybe you know all that already, but it just occurred to me.

Sadly he's not much use after the early C17th, lol. I do like the "sign the paper and accept we, the British, are totally better than you" scene in Henry VI Part 1 as it didn't quite go like that!

Aw, thank you! And thanks for the offer - I've given you modly powers, too, now! I don't know what modding here will entail. I'm generally good at keeping on top of tagging, but generally keeping an eye on things, making posts if things get too quiet. You also can turn off anon comments etc. if we get a spam attack or something like that.
