Ah, I stopped here because I was trying to think of characters I didn't like in my fandoms, although if I disliked them enough to think of them, I'm not sure I wanted to say nice things about them when I generally just don't talk about them and leave the people who like them in peace.

But if I like a fandom, then I will usually come to be okay with the characters I don't like - they'll grow on me on rewatches, they'll be interesting when I come to write them, and I'll feel bad if I'm mean about them, and get defensive if other people are. The ones I really resent are usually because other fans have gone on about them in objectionable ways, dialling up my annoyance, which doesn't make me feel like being nice about them for this meme.


22. Name a character that you’d like to have for a friend

Most fictional characters wouldn't make for good friends. Even if they're fine in themselves, they get into danger and excitement all the time! It'd never work out. If I must, though, Bill Potts seems like a lovely potential friend, if she'd be willing - post-TARDIS and puddle travels, of course.

I mostly just rest fandoms rather than abandon them, if they're something I'm really into. Other things are barely around long enough to be a fandom, so can that count as abandoning them?

Do you want my Reasons Why Silver/Sapphire/Steel Is Totally Canon Already (in whatever sense "elements" can be said to have or be ships, which maybe they can't, but clearly they are anyway) again?

Though, really, I don't think I'd die defending any personal fictional theories. That does seem like a particularly stupid way to die.

I like to think that, insofar as any sort of relationship is possible for them, it is. In a rather unequal way, because Sapphire/Steel is the main, but Silver is their technician and that's how it goes. Maybe. XD

I felt the same about question 21! If I genuinely dislike a character, it's hard to say something genuinely nice about them, and I don't think I'm usually truly neutral about characters? Or, I guess, if I am it would never occur to me to write something about them for a meme, because they just don't enter into my head at all.

I know! It's rare enough for me to hate a character, and generally even if I do, I'll wind up talking myself into liking them and at the very least won't go on about them to the rest of the internet, so the ones I really still resent are usually because the rest of the internet was annoying about them and I reserve the right to stay silent!

And I've probably been nice to them in fic anyway; that'll do. XD

Look, it's so much canon that it's only when they're completed by the addition of Silver as the perfect technician to the perfect pair of operators that the Transient Beings feel the need to come and take them out! It's been a while, I can't remember my whole essay in my head, with supplementary evidence any more. (Must need a rewatch. XD)

I told someone else doing this meme: I believe there are different ways people abandon fandoms, and that just because someone abandons a fandom doesn't mean they can't come back to it. I personally tend to leave in one of two ways--

1) Abruptly, generally, because they killed off a favorite character of mine, or done something else I immediately found intolerable.
2) Slowly, I just lose interest and drift off.

In both cases, I may return, all though I'm less likely to go back to the ones that completely broke my heart. I sometimes think of them as the "It's better to burn out than to fade away" break up, and the "Old soldiers never die they just fade away" break up.

Yes, you've got to do what's best for you! I occasionally have one that fades away; I've never really crashed out of one - but if I ever do, I hope I'd try to just go if I could, too.
