Fic: Prospero's Daughter

Okay, I posted The Fic In Question over at Teaspoon:
Prospero's Daughter.
All ages/PG, ~3000 words. Written around the BFA Full Fathom Five (featuring David Collings as an AU Doctor, but no spoilers and should stand alone, as it's set in the audio's 27 year gap). Thanks to
clocketpatch for kindly taking a quick look to check I wasn't delirious (or not noticeably) and that I managed to be a bit dark.
[Yes, sorry. I had vowed to myself when I was able to write fic, I would be less obscure. That was a waste of time. I did try quite deliberately to write it as an introduction so should be readable. Well, I'm not quite able to write fic yet, really, I suppose. Also there is another reason that will be explained at some time. As well as the usual: somebody had to do it!]
(Not as yet okayed by the mods.)

Date: 22 Jun 2011 12:07 pm (UTC)But, thank you! Aw. *blushes* I was listening to the audio and was v struck by what must have happened in the missing years; also David Collings!Doctor! (I don't know how to explain my reaction to that, even if he was a v dark Doctor, because the only thing I can think you're likely to have seen him in is Press Gang as the head teacher. *points to icon*)
And I was running out of brain by the time I posted this: I had quibbles about whether it really would stand alone for a newbie (always hard to tell unless you are one), or if anyone would be interested at all, because Full Fathom Five seems to be probably the Unloved one of the Unbound series, but (once Clocket had told me it was okay), I did think it wasn't really any worse than anything else I'd written. It came out of my head fairly ready, so I knew I could go for it. I'm still recovering in a way, so I don't think I'd say I'm writing again yet, but I will be - and maybe sooner than I think, which is a) nice and b)necessary if I'm going to work my way back into being able to do anything at work ever again. Which is all waffle, sorry. But I have a need for LJ waffle more than usual these days.
Anyway, talking of fic, and waiting patiently - what happened to the one you said you completed during fic_rush? I am all agog and stuff. ;-)

Date: 25 Jun 2011 04:21 pm (UTC)Hmm, I do like a bit of dark!Doctor, and audios are much easier to find time to listen to than tv shows... . *puts on ever-expanding list of things to get one day*
Excellent to hear that you will be writing again soon, whatever 'soon' turns out to mean! I hope you've recovered from this one now. Fic hurting your brain is no good. :(
I know I know I know, I *will* post something one day - I only just got the fic_rush one back from my beta, and I'm about to disappear for a few days now, and also I'd like to post all three together if I can finish the others... Sorry!

Date: 28 Jun 2011 10:33 am (UTC)Yes, things are a bit better again, but my level of concentration has gone back down, but that might have happened with other things going on anyway.
Hee, if you like audios, that is not the best Big Finish one to go for. There is The One Doctor and almost anything with Six and Evelyn, and Eight and Charley. (Jubilee, DW & the Pirates, The Chimes of Midnight etc etc). And, um, lots and lots of others. They make too many good ones, and too many generally. I can't keep up... I liked the AU Doctor better than I liked the story, although it wasn't bad - did the doom thing pretty efficiently. (It was set in a sea base. Things never go well in a sea base. This is why in the rl we don't have them. Or I don't think we do...)

Date: 28 Jun 2011 11:06 am (UTC)Sorry to hear that your concentration is going a bit backwards. I will understand if you're on and off re commenting, but then I'd understand that anyway, and also, I am pretty much on and off again re eljay myself. :D
(OHHHH, forgot about that post I was going to send you! I have it all ready. Will stick it in a postbox tomorrow!)

Date: 29 Jun 2011 11:13 am (UTC)I think the concentration's improved again, tho' I did a little too much yesterday, but anyway. *fingers crossed*
Heh, I do that. I mean, it's in an envelope, isn't it? What more needs to happen to it? And, thanks. *awaits Interesting Post with anticipation*

Date: 7 Jul 2011 12:54 pm (UTC)It turned up yesterday and I have read both and they were excellent, so thank you. Plus, the stamps were lovely (I shall send on them to my Dad for his collection - set of Australian stamps, yay). As was the card with note and I do appreciate the respelling of my name. :-)

Date: 9 Jul 2011 11:46 pm (UTC)Just stumbled over this on YouTUbe. I don't approve of Big Finish stuff being up there in its entirety, but as you are on the other side of the planet... you'll find Full Fathom Five on the link in 6 parts.

Date: 10 Jul 2011 06:45 pm (UTC)You can now find out what an evil story I wrote, after all... *cough*

Date: 17 Jul 2011 01:10 am (UTC)So, I have just now ordered both Full Fathom Five and the one Nicola Walker's in, and will download them as soon as my internet ticks over. :DDDDDDDDDD

Date: 17 Jul 2011 12:22 pm (UTC)You know, I think I am definitely progressing, because even though I can see how lovely a thing it is to have NW in DW in any shape or form, until now it has been 'oh, another thing to listen to... I don't know if I can'. And then, walking round the block the other day, I suddenly woke up and realised that (assuming it may actually be good) it is like a thing someone made specially for me, because...
a) Nicola Walker in DW!
b) ... with my favourite Doctor.
c) in a sequel to one of my two very favourite DW stories ever.
d) which incidentally (depending on how long after Robots of Death it is set), would put a character played by David Collings from that in the same time frame and location (Kaldor City) as a character played by Nicola Walker even though over 30 years actually separates them. (You can see how I would probably be the only person in the world to be pleased about that.) For that matter, all the *other* characters in Robots of Death, including D84, and if you take in Kaldor City and Chris Boucher's belief that it exists in the Blake's 7 universe... that puts Nicola Walker in B7 and DW at the same time. *brain explodes*
So I am actually a bit excited. I seem to find it easy to get my brain eaten by stuff at the moment, but normal excitement doesn't happen much.
... And I'm just waffling at people again. Sorry. Feel free not to reply! I do hope you like both of them. Big Finish do such marvellous plays, but obviously some are less good than others. I will try not to write any scary fanfic if it is good, but it may happen.

Date: 17 Jul 2011 03:38 pm (UTC)(And what I was trying to say before I got incoherent is that the episode of DW it's based on was written by Chris Boucher, who then went off to script edit Blake's 7 - and, he's already done sequels (1 book, a nonBF audio mini-series) that link the story directly to Blake's 7. So from this audio, I get potentially not only NW in DW, but NW in B7. Unless, of course, her character turns evil and/or dies. Which is always a possibility.
I dunno... I can manage being rambly quite often even so. I like to think that when I am better I will only write concise, wise and brilliant comments, but... probably not.

Date: 18 Jul 2011 02:54 pm (UTC)Haha, as always, I had totally forgotten everything about that post and your fic, but I see that it *was* over two years ago so I suppose that's kind of justified. (omg we have known each other for more than two years?!)
Very much enjoyed the re-read. :D Thanks!
