ETA2: Also what sort of film collector who lives in England - in Hampshire - picks up some Doctor Who and doesn't even think to look on the internet for which episodes are missing? I don't know. I think if I was a film collector I would be checking that sort of thing. (Oh, who cares?)

Aw. (btw, did you try to watch The Romans? That one is fun. You might like that. Unless you fell asleep trying to watch that, in which case there is probably no hope for you. ;-D)

No, I haven't tried that one - I should! I tried An Unearthly Child, and thoroughly enjoyed episode 1, and then it turned into two cavemen arguing about which one of them invented fire and I fell asleep. And then I tried The Daleks... I think I survived to episode 3 with that one, but again... not much beyond that :)

Well, that is quite a natural reaction. Also, it is really good to watch early Who 1 episode at a time, anyway! But The Romans is about the one DW where they really have a holiday. Well, apart from Ian and Barbara getting kidnapped and sold into slavery and thrown to the lions and things. The Doctor has a lovely time pretending to be a lyre player who can't be play the lyre, Vicki tries to poison Nero and then they burn down Rome and have a good laugh about it. Because Dennis Spooner apparently saw them making Carry On Cleo and thought 'What a good idea'. Which is why I love Hartnell era DW. Well, now, let's have cave people grunting/a dramatically stuck switch/shrink everybody/comedy historicals/tragedy!/a sing-a-long Western and nobody says, "No, DW always fights aliens!" But, yes, sometimes it is like watching stuff happening a long way away through a dark tunnel.

But try something like The Romans, The Aztecs, The War Machines and things. Or watch bit by bit and get slowly addicted to the never-ending adventure. (Each story just cliff-hangers into the next.)

Also: have you seen the clips? Is Patrick Troughton not the best thing ever? Apart from the Chumbley, obviously. :-D

I really liked the Romans. I loved how they travelled back in time and the problem wasn't some alien life form masquerading as Romans that was causing menace, just actual Romans!

And YAYYYYYYYY for more episodes!!!! *does happy dancing*

There is srs stuff in the Hartnell era, but the loltastic is just the best. (The Sensorite who learns from a human that all the Sensorites look the same without their sashes and goes, "I had never thought of that!" and immediately concocts an evil plan to swap sashes and kill people is one magical moment that can never be forgotten.) The Romans, The Myth Makers and The Gunfighters are all intentionally comedies, though. The Hartnell era is the craziest, I think. I love it. But you might have guessed that by now. ;-D

Anyway, I have calmed down now (although you probably can't tell from this comment). Patrick Troughton, yes. ♥ "Just one question: why would you want to blow up the world?" And apparently he wears a silly hat as well! The universe knew what we needed to cheer us up, clearly.

I may still be hyper. But also, if you like The Romans, I think you would enjoy The Chase. It is one of those things that is really quite bad but is charmingly silly and adorable. It makes no sense and has a doppleganger that doesn't look even a tiny bit like the Doctor. It strikes me as being your sort of thing! But only an episode or two at a time. :-) And the ending: William Hartnell makes me cry again.

Also, Vicki. In both the Romans and The Chase, they start off having a nice holiday/just doing stuff aboard the TARDIS, and Vicki is BORED. She was promised adventure, and she wants it now! ♥

(I promise I will try and calm down, but I cannot hide my scary love for 1960s Who right now. I love all DW, but 1960s Who makes me want to draw hearts round everything.)
