Fandom Snowflake Day 5 (Take two)

Okay, this proved to be fun. Here are the new things I tried:
From
seriesfive:
Slippery (1823 words) by FayJay
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Good Omens
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Aziraphale/Crowley - Relationship
Characters: Crowley, Aziraphale
Summary:
I have read Good Omens, but probably about twenty years ago and my memory of it is very vague. This however, was lovely. And it was even m/m slash (not usually my first choice as to type of pairing). But basically, what it says except also beautifully written, subtle and amusing (as something from this fandom should be). Brilliant!
persiflage_1 suggested one of her recent Bond fics:
This Shall Be My Dancing Day (1305 words) by Persiflage
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: James Bond (Movies), James Bond (Craig movies)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: James Bond/M
Characters: James Bond, Female M (James Bond), Original Characters
Series: Part 14 of Bondkink Fics
Summary:
My knowledge of Bond is mainly from watching the Roger Moore films with my Dad when I was young, so not something I tend to seek out fanworks for! However, this is a great little scenario with lots of nicely done details, I could hear the two actors and very much enjoyed it. ♥
sallymn sent me to these Get Smart vids. I have no idea what these are and also I don't usually watch vids if I have to download them first, so two new things in one. It was pretty funny and clever, although I confess I did feel as though I'd have appreciated it more if I knew something about what I was watching. But, yes, still enjoyable even for a baffled bystander.
llywela13 gave me a short Firefly fic: The B-Team, which was indeed, cute and accessible, with a few explosions and things. (I haven't seen Firefly, but I have watched Serenity and read quite a few DW crossovers, so I could pick things up fairly easily anyway. But good fun, thanks.)
liadt gave me two Avengers fanvids - Keeping Things Friendly and Needed: One Pair of Boots, Preferably Kinky which were a lot of fun and nicely done. (I think I would say that the actors singing the novelty song should definitely not give up the day-job, but that's a given, really. But, yes, great fun. I really do want to watch The Avengers.) I think, overall, I liked the Kinky Boots one best, but they were both v entertaining.
seriesfive sneaked back with a second rec just in time:
After the Fall (852 words) by thedevilchicken
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Ben-Hur (1959)
Rating: Mature
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Judah (Ben-Hur), Messala (Ben-Hur)
(More m/m slash, but not explicit despite the rating.) Anyway, this was well-written and I liked it. It's a bit random out of context sometimes, not sure what else to say. But well done, I liked reading it.
(The other two recs were for fics that were over 2k - my definition of "very short" really is very short at the moment, sorry, but they look good, so I'll come back to them later on when I have some more brain.) Thank you, everyone! :-)

Date: 5 Jan 2013 06:43 pm (UTC)Ben-Hur slash, though?! My brain very much does not know what to make of Charlton Heston slash. Or Judi Dench slash come to that. Fandom is an interesting place, that's for sure.

Date: 5 Jan 2013 08:31 pm (UTC)Neither did Heston, which is why the director of Ben-Hur reputedly told the actor who played Messala "Play the role like you're in love with Judah Ben-Hur but don't tell Charlton I said that". XD

Date: 5 Jan 2013 09:32 pm (UTC)Strange, isn't it, that they could put out a film like "Ben-Hur", and also "Spartacus", all those years ago, with such blatantly obvious subtext; and yet there's nothing at all like that now. Nowadays fandom has to read between the lines, and write the subtext itself.
