For paranoidangel42, who asked for my Top Five things about Blake's 7:
I have to say I took this literally, so really is things I like about it.

1. I mentioned this before but the Federation have their own version of Monopoly, which the crew play on board The Liberator. This is wonderful. (I expect they had to stop playing Cluedo and Trivial Pursuit, what with Orac, Zen and Avon on board.)

2. The Costumes. Except that Vila seems to have a lot of ugly outfits, these are quite something. "What are they wearing this week?" is my first question on a new ep. (Also the Michelin men outfits that really were Michelin men outfits, I now learn, because they were very, very funny.)

3. Anything written by Chris Boucher. I don't know why, but there it is. The snark, the random passing characters with lives and all. Terry Nation with padding by Chris Boucher is a great combination.

4. It looks like Doctor Who, is made by people who were involved with DW (and came together through DW), the actors are all familiar faces and so on, but it isn't DW.

5. (All right, I'll be sensible now) Avon and Vila. I can't decide between them. Avon is wonderfully snarky (probably the snarkiest character in existence) and has a habit of popping up to save the day in the nick of time, while finding the whole thing completely tedious. And he has a pet rock that's more intelligent than the rest of the crew. (He says). Vila is the comedy character, but then again, there's so much we (I, anyway) don't know about him, especially since it's hard to believe a word he comes out with about himself and he sometimes shows that he could be as dangerous as the rest of the crew if he chose.

For persiflage_1 who wanted Five Moments When Liz Shaw pwned the world. I had to think about this, because I tend to concentrate on moments when Liz Shaw and the Brigadier were an item, definitely, honest. *coughs*

1. Being abducted in Ambassadors, which she doesn't take lying down. ("Don't worry, I won't hurt you," she tells her captors) and her dealing with Reagan. The Doctor leaves her to sort out everything at the end and swans off, too. (Actually, this leaves her without any transport to get home, but does he think about these things? Hopefully the Brigadier gave her a lift back).

2. Section Leader Elizabeth Shaw shooting the Brigade Leader in Inferno and literally saving the world, even if it's not hers.

3. Manipulating the Doctor into doing what the Brigadier wants in Silurians.

4. Her laughing at both 'her' men at the very end of Inferno. She didn't get a proper leaving scene, but somehow that was just perfect as it was.

5. When we hear from the Brigadier that Liz Shaw told him that the Doctor only needs "someone to pass him his test tubes and tell him how wonderful he is." Because it's sounds just like her and it's so true. And also, it means she let off steam to the Brigadier behind the Doctor's back, so that makes me very happy. And got the Doctor Jo Grant to break his hearts.

That was exactly what I meant :) Chris Boucher is great. And having seen Blakes 7 before Doctor Who, I keep being amazed at how many B7 actors turn up in DW and how much the late 70s/early 80s episodes look and feel like B7.

Oh, you came that way round? That seems hard to imagine - DW is such a great, looming Titanic of a show! But it's so related and yet both very much have their own identities. I ended up watching it both because velvetfascism said I should and because I really, really wanted more Chris Boucher scripts, my love for Robots of Death being quite ridiculous.

And I'm glad that wasn't too frivolous for you!

It wasn't through lack of wanting to, but the BBC showed three Doctor Who serials and the whole of the first series of Blakes 7. Then a friend of mine lent me the rest of the videos over a period of several years. So it was just more accessible.
