Aw. I am a bad person to keep reccing/going on about very old stuff that is not easy to get hold of. (Hmm. I suppose at least the West Wing was reasonably mainstream!!) But if all else fails, S&S is on YouTube (it's easy to find, and the link is on the picspam), and 2Entertain have a Special Edition of Robots upcoming sometime, so it may get more available then. (And you can watch it and wonder why on earth I like something so odd and old with bicycle reflectors used as props, yes.) But, aw. I am a terrible oppressor. Sorry. (

(You can oppress me in return, if you like. I have got Elizabeth R right now, but unless my concentration improves, or I stop using it up on silly things I shouldn't be doing like, um, fanvidding, I still can't watch DW, Spooks, the Jeeves & Wooster I got for my birthday, grr. So don't know what to try next, and I need something or I tire myself out too much. So I am open to suggestions. But just nothing too noisy or fast moving. Old is quite good. Except for classic Who, apparently. Which is Not Fair.)

But, yay, for the library and free books! Why is it secret? Is it hiding from the council (or whoever) so that they don't find out it is open extra hours and close it?

Hahaha, no, I like being oppressed! Oppress away! Otherwise I would never have got around to watching the West Wing, and uh, I don't even want to think about how terrible that would be.

You know, I do keep trying to think of things to rec you in return, but most of the things I enjoy which you don't already, I know that you wouldn't like. (Case in point, The Wire, maaaaassive language warning!)

Oohhhhh, but have you read any Jasper Fforde? If yes (which I suspect you have), let's talk about how perfect Nicola Walker would be in the role of Thursday Next. If not, consider it recced to you in the strongest possible terms.

Aw. In that case, well, have you found Sapphire and Steel yet? We need to talk theories about Elemental metallugrical thingumies and how they work and whatever it is they are and stuff! ;-D (I can evilly oppress, yes. Haz permission.)

Oh, no, actually, The Wire is definitely on my radar, but comes into the category of 'Things to Watch When I Have A Brain'. (And justice_turtle was rooting back through my old icon posts yesterday and I noticed in a few of them we'd been having TV conversations where I'd been saying I hadn't been able to cope with watching TWW or Spooks, so it's been a long while since I've been able to take much clever TV. Depending.) I mean, I don't like loads of bad language, but it doesn't bother me so much in TV, more when it's written. I'll just keep snapping out of a book if there's a lot of crude language; it's like a text slap or something.

And, yes. And YES. That thought would never have crossed my mind, but yes. It would need Nicola to hang onto through all the craziness and trying to work out what was happening. :-)

I have, actually! Apparently the dvd shop across town has a copy, which I'll get my hands on as soon as I have another reason to go across town, because it's a stupidly long way to go just for one dvd. I will keep you posted on my adventures hunting it down, and then yes, metallurgical thingamies!

!!!!! I'm so excited that the Wire's on your list! My love of it very nearly rivals my love of the West Wing. I was wavering about whether to rec it to you, because it's all complex plot and intrigue and razor-sharp wit and social commentary and the uncanny knack of showing the good side and the bad side of literally every character. But then, it also has more bodies than Spooks, more swearing than non-swearing, more sex than anything I'd ordinarily watch, and so much slang that I only understood half of every conversation, so I thought it wouldn't be your thing. But I am very happy to be wrong!

As for Thursday, I don't usually 'see' book characters, but I cast Nicola Walker about halfway through the first book and she's been improving the role ever since. No idea who should play Landen, though, or anyone else...

Actually, your adventures hunting down are quite an epic read in themselves, heh. :-) And, ooh. I'm v excited, there are now two people on my flist who have today said they are on the verge of purchasing and watching it. I'll now waver between excited about this and worried that you'll both find it odd and dull or something. (Just break it to me kindly.)

Yes, I'm afraid I don't know when or if I ever actually will, but it;s on the list and has been for a while. I only ever hear good things of it.

I'd never have thought of it, but YES YES YES. Now I won't be able to get it out of my head if I reread them. (Which is a good thing.) I'm rarely good at casting books, anyway.

Spammage, sorry, but I omitted to say how much I love this sentence. It makes me smile. I want to reread the books with Nicola in my head now. I ended up preferring the two Jack Sorat books. What I needed was this bit of casting, duh me.

Also, stuff on my list: there is a new thing on here called The Hour. It looks fab and I am sorry I haven't been up to watching new TV, grr. Anyway, I'll go; it wasn't as if you needed an extra comment from me today, but hey.

WATCH THE HOUR! I can't believe I forgot to say that before. I got my hands on the first two episodes on the weekend (wayyyy easier to acquire than things you rec me *g*) and it's great. Plus, it has Juliet drinking, smoking, and generally telling everyone else exactly how much they suck all the time.

(PS. I have no idea why the library is secret, but in case it's because of the reason you suggest, I have been careful not to betray it, and have been slipping in and out in dark glasses and a trenchcoat with my books hidden in bags of groceries.)
