31 Heyer Icons (& Birthday Wishes)!
May. 24th, 2013 01:42 pmHappy birthday to
sallymn! I hope you have/had a lovely day and many happy returns! I've been working on these icons for a while, but decided to finish them today in your honour, knowing that you like icons, quotes and Ms Heyer's works. ;-)

Date: 2013-05-24 05:45 pm (UTC)I shall ponder, and snag one. Or two. But no more. I am resolved.

Date: 2013-05-24 07:16 pm (UTC)I may have a memory stick with lots of icons on - those I've made, those that were so pretty... far too many to use at once, but handy to go back to when I need a change.
I see your resolve-face, though, yes.

Date: 2013-05-24 07:17 pm (UTC)Thanks. i can't resist icons like that. They may not be useful, but they are amusing in their own right, so, that's okay.

Date: 2013-05-24 07:20 pm (UTC)And, aw, I hope you enjoy it! It is fun, although I always feel there is something different about the tone of that one - the romance is slightly more sentimental, perhaps? Tho' I like the characters involved. But then I wonder if I am unduly influenced by the fact it's my only Penguin Heyer, so my brain insists it's Different, when it isn't...

Date: 2013-05-24 07:34 pm (UTC)Try Cotillion, The Grand Sophy, Frederica, Arabella, The Talisman Ring, Friday's Child, The Corinthian, The Quiet Gentleman, Sylvester - or most of them really. (But NOT Powder and Patch.)
She started writing quite early, so her first novels (The Black Moth, These Old Shades, The Masqueraders are a bit different in feel and I do prefer most of her later stuff, just for not. And the last few do feel a bit like repeats, but otherwise she's very entertaining.)

Date: 2013-05-25 02:03 pm (UTC)i found it quite heard going for the first few pages, because some of the sentences were so long and had multiple semi colons etc, but after a few pages it became incredibly easy and i couldn't remember what my problem was. it's good stuff, anyway. i am indeed enjoying it.
also- no two of my heyers are the same at all! although we have some quite nice elderly hardbacks (the nonesuch and... venetia, i think), which look vaguely the same. but are in fact - not.
