There are former LJers who would like to return, but their friends lists have been deserted.
Let's all welcome them back with open arms and show them that LJ is very much alive!

It looked a bit scary (it's all LJ, not necessarily just fannish folks), but I ignored the questions I didn't want to answer and plunged in, because people should definitely be encouraged to return to LJ. Also new friends are not to be sneezed at. :-)

In all fairness, it would be very difficult to sneeze at them, since they're on the other end of an internet connection. Though I'm not above trying, obviously.

Ha. Yes, the history in SH is... not as we know it. :D

I'm glad you're enjoying it. I don't know if we've ever talked much about history - it's what I read at uni, so I do share your pain. I usually let these things slip if something is entertaining enough though! Like the Doctor spouting off to Steven about Viking helmets with horns on. :) Although possibly that one was down to the Meddling Monk!

Hmm... SH/Buffy crossover...

I can never quite decide if SH is intentionally bad, intentionally nuts, or just doesn't give a stuff. Season one was a massive hit though, so I guess it worked, whatever it was. And they are good leads, which as you say, does help!

I did modern history, which was essentially defined as being from around 1700 onward (we even had a quick look at the Falklands War, which was scary! It's not history if I remember it, damn it!) I did get to do a course in Mediaeval history in the first year though, which was good. The modules weren't bad. I did a crash course on 20th century European affairs, which was compulsory; and then the history of the Soviet Union; Nazi Germany; Southern Africa (that one was good - I'd never been out of Europe for history before); Black America (also good); and Crime and Punishment in England and Wales, which was also rather good. And the history of agriculture in England from 1640 - 1870, which was the dullest thing that ever was dull. :)

That sounds like an interesting bunch of subjects. I'd like to have looked into American history in more depth. Somebody I speak to regularly over on a Doctor Who forum is a Civil War nut, and I've learnt a lot from him. It's simultaneously a horrible and fascinating time. Plus ties in nicely with my fondness for cowboy tales. ;) I'd love to have done Rome/Roman Britain in uni-level detail too. Did it as a kid, obviously, but that's never quite the same!

I don't really recall what mark I got overall for Agrarian England. Sixty-something percent, iirc. I got a 2.1 over all, and got much the same for the various modules. Something of a relief, as I was envisaging horrors from that one. It was DULL. Did tie in nicely with GCSE and A Level though, both of which were 'A Social & Economic History of Britain from 1760' (the A Level also covered Europe). I have read more about seed drills, and the industrialisation of farming practices, than I could ever have desired!

God lord, it has all the questions I mark "prefer not to say" on the equal oppos forms and more! I prefer to let the council put out my personal information;p

Hah, yeah, I'm with liadtbunny -- what's with all the personal questions?

I mean, yes, I could just ignore them, but being asked in the first place already makes it weird. Those aren't the kinds of things I care about when looking for new book/Doctor Who stuff to follow.

It's a nice idea in general and I did find a couple of people to add, but. . .

I understand! I'm just being old and grumpy (like you do when you're young).

The questions all seemed to all be aimed at activist sort of people, which a) I get more than enough of on facebook and b) was never what I wanted - I seem to have outlived three communities on LJ, but they were all mainly just people chatting about day to day stuff.

I have been making an effort to friend people and at least get an active reading list again, but it still tends to be friends of friends and things. Completely random is too intimidating.

Yes please - I've been reading you on and off since the commentfest, I think. Half the time* I have no idea what you're talking about, but it's interesting all the same :)

*The more obscure fandom half, to be fair.

I don't have the patience to watch TV, somehow - I never did, much. I got about halfway through JS+MN last summer, which was doing quite well for me!

My reading is fairly random, though, or would be if I had any time for it (I'm working full time and studying part time and pretending I have a life as well, and it's all a bit hectic...)

I'm glad it is bringing together all kinds of people - and I can understand how it can be scary...

*HUGS*

As you are locked in the past in old TV land you will be sad to learn of this:-
