So, as soon as I say I am maybe feeling a bit better, I feel awful and flat again, so I'm just going to swear off talking about feeling better, possibly forever. I hope to get some words typed up for my Yuletide fic later; that would be something.

As you're probably aware, tumblr is banning NSFW content from 17th Dec and is thus imploding. It's obviously really rotten for a lot of people, including an awful lot of professional artists. In the meantime, there is at least a sudden uptick in activity here, and that's something out of the crappiness of it, but it's not much consolation to most people there. (I know I used to joke about wanting it to implode because of how bad I am at it, but it's never nice when this happens, as I remember only too well from all the LJ-pocalypses before I finally admitted that I had no wish to go down with that ship after all.)

And, for reference, as to how ridiculous/crappy this promises to be, here are two posts of mine that have been flagged as containing inappropriate adult content since this began. I'm sure that, presently, the flagging will be revoked, but who wants to battle that every time you try to post anything that hits the wrong tag or looks dodgy to the AI who can't tell a female presenting nipple from a cat or a tortoise? Also, while it doesn't block every James Maxwell post, it does seem to feel he is more NSFW than any other thing I post and, frankly, stuff that, tumblr.

Wow. Clearly those posts have no place on Tumblr, lol. I have no idea what kind of algorithm they're using to search out this stuff, but it obviously isn't much of one. And yeah, I'm glad that I have accounts on other sites and Tumblr isn't the end all and be all of my fannish experience, but it's still kind of awful to watch people leaving in droves. On the brighter side, I should probably get a post up on the friending meme.

How is that NSFW? That's barmy. Mind you, I had an animated gif taken off PhotoBucket ages ago because it was deemed unsuitable (it was two of those little round, yellow, emoticon faces having a snog). So goodness knows who is in charge of these things. And clearly their software is rubbish. How is James Maxwell porn?! David Collings in that recent shirt, maybe. ;)

Thanks, and to be honest, while this is terrible for many people, being primarily on Dreamwidth but reasonably familiar with tumblr, it's kind of bizarre and fascinating as yet. Hopefully, they'll backtrack, because their software is clearly not ready for porn-detection yet!

It is about as far from a clever algorithm as you can get. It's managing to affect just about every visual-content maker on the site, which is an achievement. Possibly at some point, it must have found some porn as well... Possibly!

Yeah, the trouble usually is that actually their business model is based on their advertisers and not fandom at all. With tumblr, what seems to have happened is that Apple withdrew the tumblr app from its store due to its child porn problem (actual) and tumblr responded by first purging every account that had had reports (regardless of truth, and given antis and their child porn fixation, a bunch of people who had just happened to argue with antis were deleted) and now this.

Thanks! I was going to link them here once I'd done a few more, but it's been amusing me nicely while I was feeling rotten, because it's not only mild but productive but also low level writing/creativeness.

I'm baffled as to what it's seeing with the copper set. Possibly the raw copper is a very weird shape? With the others it seems to be hands that do it (although there are equally very similar sets I have that are fine, so I just don't know.)

I cant help feeling the demise of tumblr is my fault, just as I was thinking of giving it another go, lured by the pretty, it falls over. I'm not a fan of tumblr but I do feel sorry for those whose fannish life is there n also because it looks like fannish art will be mainly hit n it has become the main space for art after da. Thank heavens for dw!

Me, too, so don't worry! Only Copper has been flagged as dodgy, so there's no reason to suppose they're going anywhere & I have all the art saved on my pc anyway.

People don't always tag for original elements; reading has revealed two tagged and two untagged. While I've been doing this, I've also been reading back through things I've missed and so on, now I've finished re-doing my fic bookmarks.

My favourite fic I've found this way so far is this lovely one, with Ruby rescuing Sapphire and Steel.

I've been doing okay. Just, new job and assorted other life changes have been eating my time. As life likes to do.
