I (for reasons*) made a B7 minor characters version of the Unconventional Courtship generator.

I think the results came out as a special brand of crack (and I didn't even have to put Bayban in it). Usually, I click through a bunch of suggestions and pick out the best, but these were all priceless. Worst of all, why are half of them so scarily plausible?

... [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2! I hope you're having a great day!

I have not much brain today, but knowing that you're as amused by these things as I am, I generated you some Unconventional Courtship summaries to brighten your day! (Or possibly just to make your hair stand on end.)

Happy Birthday!

Well, I still don't have LiveJournal, but I achieved soup, which is something. For various reasons, I can't be particularly productive on the pc just now, so lack of LJ continues to be a pain. In the meantime, I played with random generators (because what else do you do?) and got this:

250) His Counterfeit Condesa by Joanna Fulford
The Major and the wild English lion
Major the Ninth Doctor does not approve of Wellington sending a man on a perilous mission across French-occupied Spain, but he can see that Mr Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart is no ordinary fellow! The marriage-shy major and the English lion must pose as the Conde and Condesa de Ordoñez, travelling to a high society ball, and soon Nine doesn't know what is more dangerous — the menacing shadow of French patrols, or the sensual torment of sharing a room with this tantalising charmer…

Which is kind of priceless, I have to say. I think that may win the random generators contest for today. (Can you see the Brigadier's face?)

And then I looked at the contents of the Royal Exchange Theatre tag on Tumblr, and it really is rather cool. (I am still curious about how a round theatre like that actually works, but it is obviously cool, look, so I can feel happy about how obviously I like the best people, even if nobody else has heard of them. Well, until I go on about them till everybody goes zzzzzzzzzzz...)

And, er, well, yes. Then I made a post? Hopefully productiveness will be a thing later, and maybe tomorrow LJ will come back to me and there will be joy in the world and all that. It's all right today, though. Yesterday I had my thing where I get very panicked and upset when any of the things I can still do reliably gets taken away from me. I'm very fortunate in many, many ways, but that's a thing that happens for obvious reasons.

There might be posts like this every day, sorry. A person has to do something and I already made soup and sugarless scones and that's kind of exhausted the immediate cooking options. I read too much of my book yesterday, so I mustn't read any more today. I may be driven to go and watch that other thing I obtained with James Maxwell in, if tomorrow I have blood tests and still no LJ.

ETA: Also watched this vid. It's very cheering:

So yesterday I ended up playing with the Unconventional Courtship Generator again, and made a post of summaries that amused me (as I do). But then got embarrassed about posting nonsense all the time (as I do), although of course, that was silly of me, because is that not what LJ is for? Anyway, slight repost; will promise faithfully not to delete this time. (Thanks, Pers, btw. ♥)

Warning for possible brain implosion at some points )

Talking of random generators, I've been sad a while that the lovely Genre Mixer one (the one that was eerily sentient) has gone. Ah well, I got about 40 S&S fics out of it while it lived, plus a few other random things. I did leave a note on the maker's Dreamwidth to say I was missing it as nicely as possible, but I suspect if it were easy to put back up somewhere, it wouldn't be gone, so mostly I just thanked them again. Still. :-/

For reasons, I am still not possessed of much brain again today (though more than most of last week) and I may just have been amusing myself with the Unconventional Courtship Generator again. You know what this means. Yes, I had to share. Again.

Still having fun with the [community profile] unconventionalcourtship Random generator by [personal profile] john_amend_all. (It now does OUaT because I begged.)

(Mind, those original summaries... so many horrible cliches and sexism and borderline racism. Putting them into fannish use and turning them on their heads is the only good thing I think you could do with most of them. 0_o)

More fun and games under the cut )
thisbluespirit: (dw - amy)
Still feeling grumpy (and still unable to manage being a pirate and thus still have no OUaT. *pines and sulks*).

However, fannish things!

[livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon is taking votes for fandoms to include in a multi-fandom apocalyptic exchange.

[community profile] fic_corner (the exchange for any children's literature) is in its nominations stage. It was lovely last year.

(I'm still trying to stay strong and not sign up for anything till Yuletide, but... some things are tempting!)

[personal profile] john_amend_all has made an [community profile] unconventionalcourtship random generator. (The Mills & Boon summary ficathon). The resulting crack is pretty amazing... ETA: Because, hey, the link might help, yes? *is very tired*

Some examples under here )

Also, fills have continued to come in for the Obscure & British fest, so it's well worth checking out the Masterpost. (There's even the moving tale of love between two footnotes, as well as other terribly shiny things. <3)

My [community profile] unconventionalcourtship fic! Which is long, obscure, and very unexciting! Amazing!

Between Strangers (8918 words) by lost_spook
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Public Eye (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Frank Marker/Helen Mortimer
Characters: Frank Marker, Helen Mortimer
Additional Tags: Snowed In, Trope Subversion/Inversion, 1940s, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Pre-Series, Curtain Fic
Summary: Trying to sell encyclopedias in the middle of the worst winter of the century wasn’t the best idea to begin with. And now Frank Marker's wound up trying to rescue a single mother and her baby who’ve been abandoned at a bus stop, and all he’s got to hand is a car that won’t go and several dozen copies of The A-Z of Everything... (Beta-ed by Persiflage).

It doesn't require canon knowledge... but I can't pretend much happens. There is snow and a cute car (I provided a link at the end). And it is a fic. I can say that much for it...

(I very much hope "proper" Public Eye fans don't look at AO3 much. I would probably be strung up for writing Romance novel-inspired Frank/Mrs Mortimer, I really would.)
thisbluespirit: (Default)
I was, btw, definitely not signing up for [community profile] unconventionalcourtship myself this time, oh no. I'd only try and write inappropriate Public Eye fanfic for it, if I could even manage anything.

I looked through the summaries (and mostly boggled, and thought WHY? and questioned characters' life choices) and then I wrote most of this in rough by early this afternoon:

78) Between Strangers – Linda Conrad
Rescuing a stranded mother and baby from a raging blizzard hasn’t been part of Frank Marker’s plans. Yet he couldn’t abandon Helen Mortimer. And ended up getting snowed in with her, tasting those fiery kisses. She was all wrong for him, so why did she feel so right in his arms?

Needless to say, there will not be any fiery kisses in my Public Eye fic, even if it is set 20 years pre-canon in the hard winter of 1947 when Our Heroes were 18 and 24 respectively (or thereabouts) and - if you follow Timeline #1 - Helen was, in canon, a single mother with a baby. (Denis Mortimer did marry her, but only four years later when it was convenient for him, of course.) (My working draft summary is something like this: Frank Marker’s trying to sell encyclopedias in the middle of the worst winter of the century, which probably wasn’t the best idea to start with. And now he’s wound up trying to rescue a single mother and her baby who’ve been abandoned at a bus stop, and all he’s got to hand is a car that won’t go, and a dozen copies of the A-Z of Everything... )

Please send help. Things the world does not need: Public Eye fanfiction. I mean, really. Even aside from nobody watching it but me, it works by showing, not telling, and cleverness, and Alfred Burke's face. I have none of those things; I have a Mills & Boon summary and a due date of May 2nd... /o\

Anyway. It's a fun ficathon - you get the prompt on a plate, full freedom to be as unromantic and trope subverting as you like or the reverse, for those who aren't me and will write fiery kisses for characters they ship. (Mind, I think this one might qualify as more romantic than last time when Silver and Steel got stuck in a romance novel, or, to put it more honestly, I cheated outrageously by use of the nature of S&S.)

Some links and things that I found or meant to post a while back:

1. [community profile] unconventionalcourtship has started! There is amazing fic already, which you can check out there, or in the AO3 collection. It's only just started so there are four fics, but good stuff already. Ace/Oswin, and an epic Blake's 7 (sort of) pirate AU, which is brilliant. Can't wait to see what other fics turn up as it goes along.

2. Someone has been blogging about their efforts to recreate Downton Abbey as Sims. It would be pretty amusing anyway, but the random werewolves and zombies are definitely a highlight.

3. [personal profile] aralias also made a why you should watch Blake's 7 post. You are probably already feeling more than oppressed enough, but hers benefits from not being a random collection of Tumblr posts and has more quotes. (B7 being what it is, this is always a good thing.)

4. Brilliant (old) Yuletide fic for DWJ's The Ogre Downstairs (one of her oldest, but I love it): Growing Together by kattahj. The tone is perfect. I mean, perfect. Which is all you need to know if you also know the book. Yuletide never ceases to be one of the most amazing fannish things ever.

So those are some things I found and hid, or have only just found. :-)

Title: Reconcilable Differences | on AO3
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook
Rating: All ages/PG
Word Count: 4954
Characters/Pairings: Silver, Steel, Sapphire (Silver/Steel)
Notes/Warnings: Some canon-type weirdness involving drowning and a ref. to suicide.
Summary: Steel’s lost inside the plot of a romantic novel and Silver’s been sent after him. It should be simple enough, but the narrative’s out to bend them to its will – one kiss and the world might end…

Written for [community profile] unconventionalcourtship from Mills&Boon/Harlequin summary #28. I also kept the title, because why not?

I don't think I really did anything I expected today, mostly because [personal profile] aralias is evil awesome. (Depending, there might be another post that's her fault later or tomorrow, because she is.)

Anyway, first things first: she's set up a panfandom ficathon where you take a Mills & Boon/Harlequin romance summary and use it for your favourite pairing and hilarity ensues (or possibly actually romance if you feel like it). Where can you find this wonderful thing and sign up etc.? It is here: [community profile] unconventionalcourtship

I might have made some banners for it. Some of them are only useful if you are me, but I was having slightly too much fun. There are more banners on the comm for pimping. But you can use any of these if you like them, too. (You can find them all here.) That was what occupied quite a bit of my day.

In other flist news, [personal profile] john_amend_all wrote first Passenger for the Steel/Jet prompt i left in his 500 prompts post (which was unexpected and entertaining and involves Steel, Jet and a motorbike ride in the 1920s) and then Field Repair with Silver and Iodine, which is marvellous and uses one of those settings that are v clever for S&S but I can't tell you before you read it. (Several S&S fics are like that. It's v annoying. You can't rec them properly.)

And a vid, which wasn't made by anyone on my flist, but is lovely:

(The State of Dreaming by niyalune (Clara, DW - so spoilers for Asylum of the Daleks & the Christmas special).

I'm sure there were about ten other things I've meant to share with people, but never mind. (I must go have dinner now.)

ETA: Had dinner and remembered!

1. Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] vila_restal! (Okay, I know, but it makes me happy that I have Vila on my flist. He's quiet now, but rebels sometimes have to go into hiding.)

Also, other stuff happening that is fun/interesting: [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon (ends on the 14th), [livejournal.com profile] rarewomen and [livejournal.com profile] shipswap.
