There's just me here and Mariocki on tumblr, as far as I know, really. When I watrched it, it was just me wailing at my flist who were very good at humouring me and even watching a couple of episodes to placate me. They're very kind.
There are more people around interested in obscure old TV generally, but everybody prefers different platforms - mariocki and a couple others over on tumblr, me,
Barbara Lewson-Jones is the ex-con housekeeper in S5, yes? It's been a while since I rewatched. I nearly rewatched PE to death 2013-2015 so I've left it alone for a bit, so I can appreciate it all over again sometime.
Helen is so lovely, though. You can tell how much I love her by the disproportionate number of icons of Pauline Delany here, compared to her actual screen time!

He seemed genuinely drawn to her, and genuinely put out that she’d been using him, I don’t know. It wasn’t like the deep companionship and bond he had with Helen, of course, but Frank connects emotionally with so few people (and so few women!) that this encounter really stood out for me.
Helen is so lovely! I want to fix all the things for her and Frank, oh my goodness. You told me in a comment on ao3 that S8 would have seen their end game; I am so very sorry we did not get to see it.

Date: 22 Sep 2020 04:31 pm (UTC)I think you'd need to look at some of the existing kinkmemes for ideas on rules and general practices, but anyone can just start a comm, just like that! (It is temptingly easy to do. XD) And then just promote it around
My Obscure & British commentfest I did was basically just anything British that wasn't a very large fandom, no qualifications on how old or new and that did seem to hit a particular niche that was specific and yet wide enough to work. You could equally do just fandoms prior to a certain date, but my suspicion is that US stuff would just completely edge out anything else, because that is the way of the internet, inevitably. But I think there would be people who would be interested in just old British fandoms, and probably no size-qualification would give the same kind of narrow and wide enough waulity, especially if the cut-off date was only say, ended 10 years prior to posting which would soon let some standards back in and help draw more people.
Keeping it active after the first flurry would take a bit more modly work, though. The ones that post update posts and things like that tend to stay more lively. But sometimes the first flurry is enough anyway!

I always think that one is kind of, he's looking for something after Helen, but someone he sees as being more on the same level as him (ex-con, damaged etc.), except of course that doesn't work out, because she's inevitably not as trustworthy, because he's better than he sees himself as being, which seems to be a mistake he makes over and over with his clients in different ways.

I don't know for certain, but, yes, ROger Marshall always said that's how he would have ended it, and Michael Chapman always seemed to respect his wishes even after he wasn't as involved (RM didn't like Nell and so she went pretty quick, for example), and I assume that's why they made a point of having Pauline Delany still in one episode each series in S5, 6 and 7. So, yeah. But OTOH, I think Alfred Burke was probably right about it not being able to retain its odd character if it became a Euston film serial. Whatever, he totally went back to Brighton in the end!! (In fact, I think someone asked Roger Marshall what he'd do if someone gave him a million pounds to end it, and he was, just, have him go back to Mrs Mortimer at Brighton!)

Oh my, I just had a moment of clutching at my heart, for this is it, entirely and completely, and I cannot believe I didn't immediately see it. Alfie and the script lays it all out on the line exactly like that: Frank is drawn to Barbara because he's been looking for a closer connection after Helen (he even sits in Barbara's kitchen and helps her with the drying, in the way he did with Helen), and of course he thinks she's more on his level (and he thinks that Helen was too good for him) -- and of course Barbara wasn't as trustworthy, and Frank deserves so much more than he thinks he does. And, YES, it's a mistake he keeps making with his clients and the people he encounters along the way! This show is finding new ways to break my heart :(

Date: 23 Sep 2020 05:03 pm (UTC)I've never really been involved with a kinkmeme as such, though! And, yeah, whenever you felt like doing it. It can help a lot to find one that works in a way you like and just adapt to your own needs, but equally there are no rules and you can do it however you please. I've just dropped another comm recently and have some ideas for other things to do instead when I'm ready, so I wouldn't be up for co-modding, but I would be happy to help out with promotion and banners, because I have run enough comms and small fests to be used to doing that. And, yeah, these days they're usually just general prompt memes, really. But, again, that would be entirely up to you.
Plus, it doesn't necessarily matter whether it keeps going or not - it depends what you want. Just to get some fic or gather some like-minded souls. or you could do a one-off and more specific fest. People seem to like a kinkmeme, though.

Awww, and this is, btw, my conclusion after far too much obsessive watching and blathering about it that I did five or six years ago when I first watched it. It is such a strange but gripping and heart-breaking show. (I lent it to my parents and they watched two episodes and told me it was unwatchable, what had I given them? And then next thing, they were addicted and demanding to know if I had the rest. :lol:)
