Fanvid: Smile on my Face
Aug. 17th, 2012 09:04 amI have made a fanvid and I don't hate it! I made it for some of the random TV I've been watching lately, so it is obscure (but I don't care). Also, there is more dancing. Apparently this is a thing now and all my vids will have dancing in. Even if it's completely inappropriate...
Some sunshine and smiles from some old TV shows I've been watching...
Clips from: As You Like It (1978), Duchess of Duke Street (1976-77), Elizabeth R (1971), Henry V (1979), Hi-de-Hi, Julius Caesar (1979), Measure for Measure (1980), Sapphire & Steel, The Shadow of the Tower (1972) and Yes, Minister.
Featuring: Simon Cadell, Kenneth Colley, David Collings, Paul Eddington, David Gwillim, Robert Hardy, Nigel Hawthorne, Glenda Jackson, Gemma Jones, Joanna Lumley, Ruth Madoc, James Maxwell, David McCallum, Helen Mirren, Stephen Murray, Richard Pasco, Victoria Plucknett, Angharad Rees, Richard Vernon and Norma West.
Music: I Was Born With A Smile On My Face by Stephanie De Sykes

Lyrics:
I was born with a smile on my face
the whole of my life's been a pantomime
born with the need to embrace
the life of a clown telling rhymes
La la la la la la la
la la la la la la la
la la la la
I'm here to help you leisure
give you pleasure
practise to please you
try to tease you
make you feel fine
inject some sunshine
make you feel good
I knew it would
I was born with a smile on my face
the whole of my life's been a pantomime
born with the need to embrace
the life of a clown telling rhymes
la la la la la la la
la la la la la la
la la la la la
forget the politician
nuclear visions
the gloomy headlines
official deadlines
let it all go now
let me show how
it's oh so easy to stay with me
I was born with a smile on my face
the whole of my life's been a pantomime
born with the need to embrace
the life of a clown telling rhymes
(It's very deep and meaningful, yes).
The idea was just to make a tribute for some of the actors (and/or their characters) who have been cheering me up over this last year or so, which it still is a little (I kept the focus on specific people), but when looking for a suitable 1970s song, I found this one. So there are other people who should be in it. So maybe I'll still do that. But I'm glad to have made one I like again - and maybe I can move on to some of my other ideas presently now I've managed that. It is obscure, but it's non-spoilery and hopefully cheerful and fun.
And, yes, I know some of them are Serious Dramas and one is even a tragedy. I'm just a bad person with a daft sense of humour, that's all.
(My WIP versions of this included "Henry VII must have ALL THE HUGS!" and "The Henry V is an Idiot Remix" but I managed to move on to a better place.)
I now await the inevitable stealing of David Gwillim, Richard Pasco or James Maxwell clips by random teenagers.

Date: 2012-08-17 04:13 pm (UTC)And, heh, the Henry VII thing was because when I did the first version, I had a clip of him each time the lyrics said "the need to embrace" - most of them are still in there, but it amused me at the time. :-)

Date: 2012-08-17 04:47 pm (UTC)Interesting to see Servalan in another role. i don't know the actresses name. What show was that?

Date: 2012-08-17 07:53 pm (UTC)It's the BBC Shakespeare Measure for Measure (1980) - she's playing Mariana.

Date: 2012-08-17 09:16 pm (UTC)Ha! Spying a goddess doesn't take much, and that this wicked lady clearly is - at least in B7's. :D

Date: 2012-08-18 08:44 am (UTC)Jacqueline Pearce really is, yes. (Although I am still impressed, because I've watched it again now, and I can only see her from the side, in the background in one clip - and I know she's there! :-D)

Date: 2012-08-18 06:32 pm (UTC)But i have to disagree on her appearances in your vid
She's in
0:42 in the forefront with her right profile
0:47 on a desk with her right profile
0:53 up front and close up
and finally in 2:39 kissing some guy I don't know...
...of course this is just like Servalan, spinning a nasty trick on you, getting in your vid without you noticing!
Bow down and thank her for gracing your vid with her presence...;)

Date: 2012-08-18 06:36 pm (UTC)Jacqueline Pearce is very briefly to the side, about 2/3s of the way through, which was why I was surprised. I should have thought of that, but because I know both characters I just didn't!
