Conversational Prompts Meme
May. 16th, 2021 02:38 pmA wild writing meme appears! Being that I have done with the AU meme at last. (Either by fulfilling the prompt or giving up on the basis of needing to do a rewatch/relisten first and because it has been over a year, and that's just ridiculous. Apologies to the - I think - two people that meant leaving and the one who got half a fill, because lack of brain.) Anyway, I did some variation on this once before and it was fun, so here goes. Hopefully I'll do it in less than a year this time... :D
(As ever with memes, any fandom goes, my interests/tags are a reasonable guide, or just give me a couple to choose from.)
Comment with a number from the below list, and a pairing/2+ characters, and I'll try to write you a ficlet or drabble.
1. “Come over here and make me.”
2. “Please, don’t leave.”
3. “Is there a reason you’re naked in my bed?”
4. “I almost lost you.”
5. “Wanna bet?”
6. “Don’t you ever do that again!”
7. “Don’t you dare throw that snowba-, goddammit!”
8. “I think we need to talk.”
9. “It could be worse.”
10. “Looks like we’ll be trapped for a while…”
11. “This is without a doubt the stupidest plan you’ve ever had. Of course I’m in.”
12. “I’ve seen the way you look at me when you think I don’t notice.”
13. “I can’t believe you talked me into this.”
14. “I got you a present.”
15. “Marry me?”
16. “I thought you were dead.”
17. “It’s not what it looks like…”
18. “You lied to me.”
19. “Please don’t do this.”
20. “You heard me. Take. It. Off.”
21. “You fainted…straight into my arms. You know, if you wanted my attention you didn’t have to go to such extremes.”
22. “Hey! I was gonna eat that!”
23. “I swear it was an accident.”
24. “YOU DID WHAT?!”
25. “If you die, I’m gonna kill you.”
26. “Tell me a secret.”
27. “No one needs to know.”
28. “Well this is awkward…”
29. “What the hell are you wearing?”
30. “Teach me to fight.”
31. “I’d die for you. Of course, I’d haunt you in the afterlife but really, it’s the thought that counts.”
32. “Before you decide to murder me, let me explain…”
33. “It’s only one night, we’ll just share the bed.”
34. “I wish you could see yourself the way I see you.”
35. “Of all the people I could’ve gotten stuck in an elevator with and it just had to be you.”
36. “Why the hell are you bleeding!?”
37. “Kiss me, quick!”
38. “We shouldn’t be doing this.”
39. “Don’t let go.”
40. “I need you to pretend we’re dating…”

42. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have kissed you.”
43. “That’s the third time I’ve saved your life!”
44. “How can you think I’m anything but hopelessly in love with you?”
45. “I need you to leave.”
46. “This is all your fault! I can’t believe I listened to you!”
47. “I’m dying.”
48. “I will never apologize for saving your life, even if it costs me my own.”
49. “I guess dying with you isn’t the worst way to go.”

AAL! Adam/Georgie + 42 "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have kissed you." (G, 625 words.)
Date: 2021-05-23 12:44 pm (UTC)“But, see, they walked past without giving us a second glance. I mean, that’s the sort of thing you expect when people are sneaking off into bedrooms at a party.”
Georgie paused and gave him a worried look. Perhaps she had permanently damaged him in some way? He couldn’t be all that stupidly Victorian, could he? She sighed. He probably could. She tried again, more kindly: “Oh, come on, Adam, if they’d seen you opening up all the cupboards, they’d have kicked us straight out.”
Adam returned to life with a cough, and tugged at his collar. “Yes, yes; you have made your point, Miss Jones.”
“In any case,” said Georgie, unable to help a smidgeon of hurt creeping into her tone, “it’s not as if kissing’s horrible. There’s no need to act like you wish I’d hit you instead. Kissing’s nice. Harmless. Fun. Means you like someone. That’s all. You don’t have to make a fuss about it.”
Adam turned, biting back exasperation, before his face softened momentarily. “Yes. As before, I take your point, Miss Jones.”
“Good, because it’s not on. You have got to get with the times.”
“By kissing all and sundry?”
“Well,” said Georgie, caught short by that idea. “Um. No. Definitely not sundry. But not freaking out if you have to kiss someone while undercover – as if it’s something awful, instead of a perfectly natural, nice thing.”
Adam surprised her first by laughing and then even further, by leaning over and kissing her cheek briefly. “Granted, Miss Jones. Now, will you kindly leave me in peace to complete my work here?”
“It’ll be quicker with two,” said Georgie. She dropped down onto her knees on the rug and then reached in to haul out a box from under the bed. “Hey, Adam, will you look at this?”
“There is, I am afraid, nothing of interest there,” said Adam. He tugged open the nearest drawer from a white-painted chest of drawers and felt around it deftly before closing it again and moving onto the next. “Remain if you must – but in no circumstances may you launch yourself at me in that improper fashion again.”
Georgie opened up the box regardless – it was a mysterious box! Under the bed! How could it not be of interest? – and, out of sight, screwed up her face. “Honestly,” she muttered, “it’s not as if I used tongues.”
“Good God,” said Adam from the other side of the room. He had unfairly excellent hearing for a centenarian. “Miss Jones! I beg of you, refrain from speaking of such things!”
“Too right I will – we’ve got other things to talk about. Look at this ticket!”
“A memento of a theatrical performance, no more. I told you, I examined everything in that box.”
Georgie jumped up, waving the orange bit of paper in front of his nose. “Mr Adamant! You don’t understand! This is an unused ticket. For the Stones! You wouldn’t keep it – you’d flog it first. And you wouldn’t miss seeing the Stones unless you were dying. It’s got to be some kind of secret message or code, hasn’t it? I mean, the Royal Edward Hall isn’t even a real place.”
“Once again,” said Adam, looking as if he’d drunk vinegar instead of the excellent champagne they were serving downstairs, “I must concede that you have a point, Miss Jones.”
Georgie grinned. “Oh, well, genius comes naturally to some of us. So, come on, what does it mean?”
“I don’t know yet. I’ll need time to study it – if it truly is of import. Perhaps you could first explain what or who are these ‘stones’ of yours?”
It was Georgie’s turn to be lost for words.

Date: 2021-05-16 03:06 pm (UTC)What about 11 for Anabelle, Stewart and Jason from Department S? Or 51 for Sapphire, Steel and Silver? :D
Sapphire & Steel; Sapphire/Silver/Steel, G, 537 words: "I'm not leaving you."
Date: 2021-05-16 08:52 pm (UTC)“Isn’t it?” said Sapphire.
Silver looked up. He was leaning against the wall in a deceptively idle pose, making what looked like silver string out of a handful of keys on a key-ring. “You’re a highly effective operator, Steel. If you want to put it in your own cold terms, abandoning you simply isn’t practical.” He flung out the string, which shone and doubled its length, floating in the air between them.
Steel scowled. He was currently barricading the inner door, behind which lay the entity. “It would be a lot less practical to lose all three of us. Go!”
“If you insist,” said Silver, “but I’d have thought you’d like to hear our alternative first.”
“Silver,” said Sapphire, with what Steel felt to be an inappropriate tinge of humour to her voice, “has an idea.”
Silver wiggled his fingers and then wound the long, glimmering string around them. It seemed to grow and grow with each twist. “We can bind it inside the building with this.”
Keeping it inside was the point. It would devour itself and be gone, with only what Sapphire estimated to be a reasonable amount of damage, but Steel couldn’t believe Silver’s ephemeral toy could be sufficient for that purpose. “With that?”
“Yes, it is a little lacking as yet, I realise. What it needs is strength.” Silver smiled at Steel with a worrying glint in his eye. “So, if you wouldn’t mind –”
Steel pressed himself back against the door harder. “I’m busy. Will you two just leave?”
“I can hold time back,” said Sapphire. “Not for long. But enough for you and Silver to finish that.”
“And then we can all go and leave it safely tied up without you making needless – and irrational – sacrifices. Now, do hurry, Steel. As you said yourself, we haven’t got all day.”
“Barely more than six minutes and forty-three seconds,” Sapphire said.
Steel didn’t smile. The corner of his mouth might, however, have lifted fractionally. It was not important. “Well, let’s get on with it, then.”
Sapphire lifted her head and everything shifted. Steel was standing next to Silver, and Sapphire was by the door, her eyes glowing blue as she locked the creature inside in a time loop: eight seconds recurring, then seven, then six –
“Put your hand there,” said Silver, lifting Steel’s hand to place it over the string around his fingers. “Yes, that’s right. No, no, no particular need to glare at it.”
Steel stared at the coiled metallic string. “What now?”
“That’s all I needed,” said Silver, and closed both his hands around Steel’s. “It’s done – and I suggest we get out of here.”
Moments later, the three of them were standing in the gloom of early morning on the pavement outside the tiny brick building that had once been a shop, part of a row of such. Thick, glowing silvery-grey cables were busy winding their way around it.
“Is that it?”
Silver glanced at Sapphire, who merely smiled and placed her hands on Steel’s shoulders.
“Silver?” said Sapphire.
Silver was watching its progress closely. “Well, there is one last thing, of course.”
“What?”
“I trust you haven’t lost your knack for tying things in knots, Steel?”

Date: 2021-05-18 08:53 pm (UTC)“Wait,” said Jason. “I wasn’t being serious. Stewart, am I going to have to teach you how to recognise sarcasm when you hear it?” He paused. “Did you hear it? Perhaps you’re going deaf. It might explain quite a few things.”
“I don’t think it’s a terrible idea, either,” said Annabelle, frowning over the plans of the mansion. “I don’t like it. It’s dangerous – but we’re running out of time and options.”
Jason looked from one to the other. “But I could land anywhere!”
“Really?” said Stewart. “You always claimed you were an expert sky-diver.”
Annabelle glanced up. Her mouth twitched. “Stewart, Mark Caine is an expert sky-diver. You mustn’t get him confused with his author.”
“It doesn’t matter how expert I am – and I am, thank you, Annabelle – one cannot guarantee landing in someone else’s back garden with that sort of precision. I’m not some sort of programmed missile, thank you.”
“Given the security set-up they’ve got round those walls while they’re away, it’s the best shot we’ve got at getting in.”
Annabelle pushed the plans over the desk towards Jason. “The ‘garden’ is two kilometres square, give or take. It is a large target at least. Nice and flat, as well.”
“I warn you, if I wind up as part of the topiary or coming down next door’s chimney, I shall resign!”
“Good. I knew you’d do it,” said Stewart, folding up the topmost map sheet and tucking it in Jason’s pocket. “Look, we’ll be waiting outside. If you have any trouble, we’ll call in the cavalry.”
Jason straightened himself. “Well,” he said, and a new light came into his eye, “it was my idea, wasn’t it? Which means it couldn’t be all duff. But I did have other plans for this evening and I’m not sure she’ll appreciate waiting.”
“Poor Jason,” said Annabelle.
Stewart patted Jason’s shoulder. “We’ll try and make it up to you afterwards. Promise.”
“What an appalling thought,” said Jason, and moved to the door. He raised his hand to his forehead in a salute. “We who are about to die –“ He let his hand fall and tailed into a dramatic, meaningful silence, before exiting.
Annabelle looked at Stewart. Stewart looked at Annabel.
“Come on,” said Stewart. “We’re not going by plane – we’ve got to drive all the way out there.”
Annabelle nodded. “Yes, and we wouldn’t want to miss Jason falling head first into a hedge, would we?”

Again: XD Sooo dramatic, perfectly in character! And he's not fooling anyone with that "appalling", is he? <3

Silver & Liz + #10 “Looks like we’ll be trapped for a while.” 345 words.

Liz gave her companion a dark look. “I thought you could get in and out of anywhere.”
“Almost anywhere.”
“Except the lab supply cupboard?”
“It’s not currently a cupboard, it’s a trap.”
Liz shifted in the cramped space between the shelves and the door. She folded her arms, and knocked Silver’s elbow in the process. “Then why the hell did we come in here?”
“Because it’s worse out there.” He waved a hand towards the door.
“Of course it is. And is there anything a mere human can do to help, or should I resign myself to dying slowly in here while you watch?”
Silver shone his pen torch in her face. “What a very depressing idea! I said we’d be trapped for a while. I didn’t say forever.”
“An hour, then? Two? I have appointments! Not to mention a delicate experiment in progress, but I suspect it’s already much too late to worry about that.”
Silver hunted around the shelves, forcing Liz to press herself further back against the door.
“Oh, there’s no time in here. So that’s rather irrelevant,” he said cheerfully. He pulled out a box of paperclips and poured a whole heap of them out onto his palm. “Hmm. Yes, that might do.”
Liz watched him. “So, you mean I won’t miss my appointments?”
“That depends.” Silver picked up a stapler, considered it and then replaced it on the nearest shelf, before taking a handful of ballpoint pens. He clearly did not consider her schedule to be of much importance. Liz wasn’t surprised. “Where I can anchor this. And when. And – well –” He hesitated, giving her a sidelong, furtive glance.
“Yes?” Liz raised an eyebrow, instantly wary.
“What we might have to face when we do rejoin the rest of the building.” Then Silver pressed the box of paper clips into her hands with his best smile. “Now, will you make these into a chain for me?”
“Why not?” said Liz, dryly. “I don’t seem to have anything better to do.”
Silver beamed. “I knew I could count on you.”

Dr Seward blinked and, coming round, saw the unwelcome face of the Count staring down at him. The fellow’s gaze really was oddly compelling.
“You seem unwell, Doctor.”
He flushed and then coughed, unwilling to explain about the blood transfusions to the Count. “I – yes, I must be.” He couldn’t yet find strength to straighten up and extract himself from this damnably humiliating position in the man’s arms. He must be woozier than he had realised.
“I admit I hadn’t thought you a challenge worthy of my ancient blood,” said Dracula, as things got fuzzier still, “but since you insist…”

Jonathan & Seward + 3 “Is there a reason you’re naked in my bed?” 473 words (PG)
Date: 2021-11-14 06:34 pm (UTC)“What are clothes to us?”
Whatever else clothes were or were not, Dr Seward felt strongly that they were things his patient should be wearing. Thirty-Four had appeared quite docile up until this last week or two, but his behaviour was getting out of hand. He had evidently escaped his cell again and now, here he was, in Dr Seward’s room, sitting up in his bed, naked.
“Clothes keep one warm,” ventured Seward. “And decent,” he added with a frown. He picked up the blanket on the end of the bed and passed it to Thirty-Four, who mercifully deigned to wrap it round himself as he clambered out, bare feet on the floorboards.
“I don’t need them any more. I shall be one with the night – no such hindrances necessary.”
Dr Seward coughed into his hand. “Yes, yes, if you wish, but for now you should return you back to your room. We can discuss this in the morning, eh?” He moved back as discreetly as he could to ring the bell for Mrs Hoskins.
“No!” said Thirty-Four, throwing out his arms and coming alarmingly close to losing the blanket altogether. He tilted his head, catching Dr Seward’s expression, and laughed at his outraged sense of propriety. “You seem uncomfortable, Doctor. I apologise. But night is the only time for me to act – to speak.”
“So I’ve noticed.” Dr Seward moved nearer to put a cautious, calming hand on the other man’s shoulder. He made a mental note to find out whether or not Thirty-Four had been given his proper dose of medicine this evening. If he had, then it was no longer sufficient.
Thirty-Four subsided abruptly. His shoulders sagged and he swayed with tiredness under Dr Seward’s hold. “I think I will go back,” he said as Seward steadied him. “Tomorrow, you will let me have meat, will you not? Meat and sugar. For my friends!”
“Yes, yes, meat and sugar,” said Dr Seward, although his heart sank at this further sign of his patient’s recent degeneration – he used the meat and sugar not to eat, no matter how thin he grew, but to trap flies and eat them. The doctor wrinkled his forehead, still at a loss to account for the strange shifts in Thirty-Four’s behaviour. “Come with me. I will take you back – we’ll find your clothes. If you want, I’ll sit with you a while – you can talk.”
Thirty-Four gave him a dark, distant look and turned his head away. “No,” he said. “It’s not you I want, Doctor. You won’t do at all!”
“Well,” said Seward, piqued despite himself, “so it seems, but I remain all you have for the moment. Come – back downstairs before you shock Mrs H.”
Thirty-Four nodded, his weariness increasing. “Tonight, yes,” he murmured. “Tomorrow – who knows? I’ll fly – and you won’t stop me!”

“There’s a reason. A really good reason. It’s just… difficult to explain right now.” The Doctor tugged at the cuffs keeping her hands fixed to the wall above her hand, but they weren’t about to give.
The Master leant back in his chair, smoke rising from the cigar in his hand. “It will have to be now or never.”
“Look, I was trying something with the TARDIS and, whoops, popped up here and accidentally thwarted you again. Still, I don’t remember fighting poisonous sentient mushrooms last time around, so probably not too much damage to the timeline. As far as I know. Of course, maybe up until six minutes ago I did remember an exciting adventure with evil fungi and how I had to team up with you because it turned out their spores gave you an allergy –”
“Doctor?!” The Master sat up sharply and switched off the steadily flashing doomsday device next to him. He leapt up and examined her, almost distressed on confirming her identity. “Another regeneration? What did you do this time?”
She shrugged. “Nothing. Like I said. Accident. Timeline muddle. I’m a future me. The me you were expecting is fine, probably suffering nothing more than the horrors of lunch at the UNIT canteen. Aww. UNIT. Didn’t always get along, but you miss them when they’re gone, don’t you?”
“I see that some things haven’t changed.” He faced her. “Still prattling, Doctor?”
“Yep. Got gold in Prattling in the 30,008 Olympics. No one else even came close.”
The Master chose to ignore that. “And I suppose you expect me to release you so that time and space will remain intact?”
“Just think what other plans of yours I might go around thwarting by accident if you don’t.”
“My dear Doctor, you can’t thwart anybody while securely bolted to the wall of my TARDIS.”
She grinned. “Who says?” She pulled her hands free at last and waggled her fingers. “Ta da! Now, come on, if I explain what I did, you can reverse it, can’t you? If you’re supposed to be so brilliant at temporal engineering, why don’t you prove it?”
“Very well. Since you’ve just demolished my latest trap, I am at a loose end – interfering as ever, I see!”
“Thank you. Although I only got a silver at Interfering – can’t help wondering if that one was rigged. I mean, interfering’s what I’m best at. Or it certainly used to be.”
“Spare me. Anything is better than two of you! So, yes, Doctor. I shall reverse whatever foolish error you made with your ship. Then, once I have found new, even deadlier allies to unleash upon this pet planet of yours, I shall kill your current incarnation – slowly and painfully. Do look forward very shortly to never having existed.”
“You do realise the flaw in that plan, don’t you? You don’t have much luck with allies. Even those ridiculous mushrooms nearly had you before I landed right on top of them. What next, go wake up some godlike being? You think that’s going to end well?”
“Whatever it is, Doctor, it will be the last thing you and your precious friends will ever know.”
The Doctor screwed up her face. “Aww. Bless. Makes me go all fuzzy hearing you say that again. Just like old times. Which is a bit more bittersweet than usual right now, but let’s not go there.”
“Doctor. Please, stop babbling, or I shall change my mind and obliterate you.”
“Yep, sorry. Ignore me. Just give Jo my love next time you’re menacing her. Should pop in and see her, but she’s always so hard to pin down.”
“With pleasure, Doctor. And may I say, that for a Time Lord of your age, you’re looking surprisingly well?”
“Flattery won’t get you the secret of immortality and new regeneration cycles. Honestly, I’m not that stupid.”
“Damn. Now –” the Master moved to put his hand on a switch on the console – “farewell, Doctor – forever!”
*
“You’ll never get away with this!”
The Master leant forward and touched Jo on the cheek with his gloved hand. “Oh, I think I will, Miss Grant. By the way, I almost forgot – the Doctor sends her love.”
“Wait – what? You haven’t hurt him, have you?”
“Oh, no – not yet. You have my word. And there’s no point in wriggling about like that, you know – those bonds are unbreakable –”
The lock wasn’t, though, as Jo had already discovered. Now all she needed was a moment when the Master wasn’t watching, and she’d be off out of here, ready to warn the Doctor. And as to the Master’s odd message, it was probably only one of his usual evil plots. Best to ignore him, and run.

36. “Why the hell are you bleeding!?”
Really I think this can be said by any Element to any other Element, but let's say Steel to *draws randomly from one of your gifsets* Xenon.
42. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have kissed you.”
Renfield/Mina, Count Dracula (1977).
S&S, Steel & Xenon, +36 "Why the hell are you bleeding?" (505 words)
Date: 2021-05-23 04:36 pm (UTC)Xenon lifted her head. She was kneeling down beside the pipes, and the blood had dripped past her nose. Even engrossed in trying to pinpoint an elusive source of trouble, she had not been able to miss that. “I beg to differ. Your left arm, Steel. Quite badly.”
“I don’t bleed,” said Steel. He deigned to turn his head to glance downwards at his arm, though, and frowned at the undeniable sight of dark blood seeping through the grey sleeve. “It’s not important. A distraction.”
Xenon rose to her feet, and brushed down her fusty, lilac-grey skirt and jacket. She surveyed Steel closely, circling round him with interest.
“I said, it’s not important. What we need to know is where that distortion is coming from.”
“Nowhere in particular,” said Xenon, her mind distant again suddenly. “It’s moving. Shifting about. You know, you’re turning pale, Steel. Just as well Sapphire isn’t here. She wouldn’t approve. I don’t think I do, either.”
Steel pressed his right hand over the wound to stem the flow, and shook his head. “Find it. Its location. Now, Xenon.”
“Part of it is here – attacking you. Evidently.” She pushed back a lose strand of black hair that had fallen forwards, tickling her cheek, and leaned in to examine the injury more closely, brown eyes lightening into a soft blue glow. Light surrounded them, casting the shadows into sharp relief.
Some of the shapes should not be there. Xenon watched the thin, hunched-over shadow on the dirty cream paint of the wall beside them. Under her gaze, the shade vanished.
Steel gave a sudden grunt. Xenon swung round, grasping the edge of his sleeve, as he staggered to one side. He caught himself in time, however, putting a hand to the wall.
“Hang on,” said Xenon. “We’d better do something about you first.” She put her hand to Steel’s arm, her eyes glowing again briefly. “Don’t worry. You won’t feel a thing.”
Steel ignored that, his focus still on their task. “The distortion?”
Xenon buried a smile, although she too recognised the need to return to business. “I can chase it down – time to throw some light on the situation.”
Steel straightened up, let go of his injured arm, and grated out, “Well, do it, then.”
“I’m ahead of you,” she murmured, and meant it literally; her mind had already floated into the next room. She relayed what she saw to him, mind to mind, as he moved to stand beside her physical self. There was a shadow that didn’t belong, the same thin, oddly shaped one made by no living being. It was formed by the combinations of objects that, innocent and obvious in daylight, turned into nightmare in the dark, courtesy of the humans’ eternally too-vivid imagination. A coat on a rack, perhaps, or something hung on an open door. It was here, and gone again. Xenon frowned, chasing the insubstantial thing round the house, back to this room, and –
Yes, said Steel, still following closely. “I’ll be waiting.

(So, I might have missed the bit where you said this should be Steel to Xenon till afterwards, but I didn't think you'd probably mind too much! *coughs* Sorry?)

Date: 2021-05-17 07:51 pm (UTC)The Doctor wrinkled her nose, tugging at the leather straps of the archaic torture rack. “Yeah. Sorry, bit low tech for the sonic, this. I’m getting there, though. What did you do? Can’t I leave you three to do the tourist thing in Elizabeth’s London without one of you getting arrested?”
“I’m not sure, to be honest,” said Graham. “Just said something like ‘Holy Mary Mother of God’ when I saw the Globe – you know, the actual Globe – and next thing I know I’ve been arrested on suspicion of being a Catholic spy and hauled off to the Tower.”
“You want to watch that sort of thing. Because it’s usually blasphemy, and take it from me, that’s never fun.”
“Thanks for the advice. I’ll remember that – if I get the chance!”
“Course you will – I’ve got it –“
Graham stared past her at the sinister looking guy and the soldiers who’d just entered. “Er, Doc. Don’t look now, but –”
“It’s just got worse?”
