1. senmut is running a prompt fest this month - July Jewels.


2. Just spotted that someone has currently got the whole of Press Gang up on YT. As that's something I'm always and forever reccing to people (1980s/90s ITV series, best ever teen drama, Steven Moffat's first TV work, starring Julia Sawalha and Dexter Fletcher), and I know it's really hard to come by in the US, I feel duty bound to point it out.

If you're interested, I'd watch it or grab straight away - it rarely stays up for too long. But it's just really really good, even now, and Lynda is amazing, and only 43 x 25 mins eps that fly by all too soon.

I watched it on DVD around 2000 or 2001...

Aw - it is good! I watched it as a teen back when it aired, or some eps a little after, I think, and didn't get the DVDs till after you - I was SO nervous it might not live up to the status it had in my head, but it genuinely did.

Press Gang is one of those things I’ve heard about ( and pretty sure I know the basic premise of) but haven’t seen. I might check it out.

Yes, because of it being Steven Moffat's first TV thing, it's very DW-connected in several ways, so it does come up a bit. (Big Finish is named after the S2 finale for a start.)

I think they've been repeating 'Press Gang' on one of those random digital channels (That's TV?) unless Benny Hill did a series of the same name, then it's more likely to be that;p

I am aware of a certain no of FReeview channels and beyond that I don't have a clue, and clearly I should pay more attention. You know them all! XD

Lol, I'm not sure 'that channel that always shows Benny Hill' counts as in depth knowledge. Forces TV seems to have gone missing, though, or I need to re-tune.

Mostly I remember some early stuff; likely S1, and that clown mask. It was ITV so would have had very limited ability to watch it. I remember Pipkin's and a very much good, but little remembered series set in a recording studio (?).

But that clown mask character?

I never saw the ep(s), so that clown mask must have been the reason I saw nothing of the show after that.

I hate clowns. Don't remember it ever coming up, but my parents never even tried getting me to go to a circus.

I have now, however, got all the episodes; mostly because every time I see the names of Dexter Fletcher and Julia Sawalha my memory goes back to this show, so I'm sure I saw more than I remember; can't be sure I saw anything after Season 1, though I probably did.

The clown mask happens in "The Last Word", a S3 two-parter, so you definitely saw some later stuff as well! It was a very dramatic ep, even without clown-fear. I'm sorry it scared you away so hard - there were no other clowns, I don't think. Only COlin as a pink rabbit!

Not much ITV was watched in my house, so I rarely got to watch it, and I didn't to see more than a minute or so, which may have been a trailer or a 'what happened last week' reprise anyway.

Whenever I see Dexter Fletcher though I remember him from the first two seasons eps I did see; think that the clown mask footage I saw was all I saw of the series after those seasons; may be over-dramatising a bit, but it certainly wouldn't have made me willing to go back.

I remembered Julia Sawalha of course when I saw her on Absolutely Fabulous, but I was never a fan of that show; remember Dexter Fletcher for his role in Band of Brothers (pretty sure I've not seen either in anything more current, though I haven't had a TV for over twenty years now, so I'm less and less in touch with newer shows, though sometimes you can find things in odd places.

Managed to get every episode of the various incarnations of Degrassi; got all of Doctor Who up to the first couple of eps of Jodie Whittaker's tenure as well as all of Blake's 7; Juliet Bravo & a number of other shows I loved back in the day, such as The Professionals. Even managed to get hold of Sleepers again eventually :-)

Sad to notice that all the B7 eps are now gone from You Tube; downloaded all of them twice as I never could get hold of a new copy of the DVDs; many of which will no longer play properly. Still have the two double episode VHS tapes I won via Ceefax; nothing to which them on and unlikely they'd work now, but I'm never letting go of those!

Some lovely person sent me their DVDs of The Borgias too :-)
