I've been doing a new (sff) canon for rainbowfic. I was originally thinking as I went on I'd sort of collect it together and put it on AO3 and so wasn't crossposting here, but I've realised lately any such collective edit is going to be a long way off, so I'd be better off just crossposting as I write. So I'll do a few posts of catching up as we go, in the order of me posting them. (Chronological order of any pieces completed so far can be found here, though, if anybody wanted!)

It's been really fun to do this kind of worldbuilding for the first time in I don't even know how long, and - having previously only written a Fake TV Show Canon (where it's like isurrendered - writing fic for a thing that exists, even if it's only an episode guide and in my head, lol), it's really interesting to try telling a story this way, all the more so when it would be impossible to do it conventionally at the moment. It's still all very new, but if anyone should want to try any of it, I promise I do have an initial plotline going on already that I'm holding myself to, but, of course, the format of rainbowfic is great for also allowing backstory and myths and odd bits and pieces like that as well.

Anything labelled "Colour of the Day" is flashfic.

Summary: It turns out being sent home in disgrace is harder to pull off than it sounds.

I confess, I took a look at the Rainbow fic site - but I couldn't figure out what was going on with the Styles and stuff...

It's mostly sets of prompts to write your way through - the styles/supplies are just extras you add in where applicable (if you do an AU, or use a Dictionary's Word of the Day, or write something pre-canon, or for a community challenge, that kind of thing). It's not everyone's cup of tea and it is kind of fiddly, but it works for me! It's based on Runaway Tales, so while it took me a while of studying that years ago to get the hang of it, switching to rainbowfic was mostly just more of the same, so I don't really think about that much any more.

I feel like I've accomplished something if I can check a prompt off the list and then go, and oh look I covered Pastels (prompts from other comms etc) and Eraser (AU) as well. :-)

I'm super impressed by this--I love how there's lots of worldbuilding there, but it's so subtly done, in that "less is more" way, you know? I like the one with the lights in the pool, and then all the characters are super intriguing, especially Leaira, because *of course* there should be a librarian! <3

Aw, thank you very much! That's very sweet of you. And, heh, it's one of those ideas that has been with me a while, but it's changed a lot since - only the librarian character has stayed constant! XD (Gotta have a librarian!)

yes, you're quite right - if you read one years ago, the prompts would have been ice-cream flavours. I used to write origfic for Runaway Tales comm on LJ, but that died off a few years ago, and I moved to rainbowfic, which is the Dreamwidth equivalent of RaTs. It uses colours instead of flavours, which also makes for pretty prompts. I do miss the ice-cream flavour theme, though - it was such a fun way to do it!
